Tracy Chapman original late 80’s Her Mom passed away, her Dad turned to the bottle, she quit school got a job to look after him, they were in a shelter, lost his job due to the bottle, (loosing his wife) she got job help him, moved to better town, found better job, she grew up quick, but She had a vision & went after it. Always loved this song
For me this song is about the life of a bread winner child, who will do all kinds of works to help his family specially his parents.. no matter how hard and challenging it is. He had to make fast decisions and push it through while there is still time. Because time run fast just like fast car.
@RyanSeverson93 This is a cover of a 1988 song by Tracy Chapman. It’s not Luke’s song, but his cover has introduced it to new generations of listeners.
Need to check out When It Rains It Pours, Beer Never Broke My Heart and Cold As You. Songs that weren't singles that are also good are Every Little Bit Helps and Blue Collar Boys.
If ya like this try him on a track with Ryan upchurch called “can I get a outlaw” this is the song that got Luke noticed and then Luke did the dirty on upchurch 🤘creek squad for life🤘🇬🇧🤘
Being civil but ugh it's rough when I listen to a review of a cover of a classic and the reviewer has no idea of the original song. It's about her not a him. And he did the song justice by not changing lyrics. No shade Bud all good.
Why is that? Many sons lose sight of their dreams trying to be there for their fathers. Father & son bonds are strong. The word “girl” is literally only used once.
Stop being a hater. Luke did an amazing job of covering this song. I love the original and it’s always going to be the best but this version paid tribute and respect to Tracy’s original version.
This os the most working class, American song I have EVER come across. The fa t that it's created and sung by a gay Black woman and is loved by huge contignent of white, typically and foundationally racist Americans is just what seals it for me. I appreciate this reaction. But neither one of us are disillusioned by the fact that the vast majority of "you", as much as it speaks to the working class condition, would've loved for these words to have been spoken by a white guy instead of a gay Black woman.

"The best 'you', to get 'you' out of the situation." Thank you, brother. I am reminded Kurt Vonnegut, my favorite American author.
Awesome song! Love Tracy & his version! Much love from Henderson Ga USA

Terrific rendition of Tracey Chapman’s song. If you have a chance listen to the original by Tracey .
YES! When that came out, it was so moving to my soul. I really like Luke's rendition too, and I don't usually like re-do's.
He did great. Loved original(my teen years it came out)

Luke Combs has a great voice and I love this cover.... but I still hate the way he did Upchurch 😬
The performance by Combs is excellent, but the words and story don't fit a man singing it.
Only 1 word "girl". Everything else is applicable to a man. Why do you think the lyrics and story don't suit a man?
Why is that? Many sons lose sight of their dreams trying to be there for their fathers. Father & son bonds are strong. The word “girl” is literally only used once.
You pause to much and miss the point of the song😮
Humm should I try again?
This cover is trash!!!! Why remake something that was perfect in it's original form. I love Tracy Chapman this song is gorgeous originally.
Lol even Tracy Chapman spoke very highly of his cover.
