  • Here's the second Copperplate (there are two of them, usually played as a set). This is the "old" one, in A Minor. And I put it together with the first one in a set.

I love hearing you play. That was fantastic, such energy. Thank you for speaking about sets, how can one find out about traditional and historical sets, please? I have several books and sets aren't mentioned at all. Thank you.

Yes, good, good points here! As Doug pointed out, Irishtune.info is, indeed, one resource where you can learn who's recorded tunes (and that way you can learn the tunes played WITH any given tune). Another great site: tunearch.org/wiki/TTA
Sets that Michael Coleman put together--or also ceili bands like Tulla CB, Kilfenora CB.... their sets are usually well worn ones.

What are the 'historic sets'? There are so many, the question is difficult to answer. There are a dozen or so that are common throughout the world. The Ballydesmond 1 &2 polkas and Jack Mitchells and John Ryans; reel sets like The Tarbolton, or Cooley's / Wise Maid and the Copperplate 1 & 2 are a few others. And jigs and hornpipes and slip jigs have common combinations too. So the marvelous websites are a help, but they do not LIST the most common and historic sets. And one should know these, just as knowing the common and 'easy' tunes for new players.

ah! Thanks for the kind shout out. Most of my time in Ireland has been spent in Clare/Galway... though I *love* the music in West Cork/Kerry--so, so good.
