Not surprised about the 'Foooj'. I was with them for over a decade, but they were finally affecting my images, my photographic business and my love for photography. Best thing I ever did was drop them like a hot potato and now for over two years, my business has been flourishing with two Z6ii bodies and 8 of their lenses. What a gorgeous system Nikon is and my customers immediately noticed the difference in my images and commented. Files are gorgeous and unlike Fuji, if you don't nail exposure, and even on high ISO, you can pull the shadows up, and the image doesn't turn to custard like it did on the Fuji. I wouldn't touch them now if they were the last camera on earth. They only thing is that I'm filthy at myself for bumming it for over a decade with wretched Fuji!
As far as autofocus goes, this can be a hard thing to get right for spontaneous photography: do you allow the AF to hopefully find the right object (like in wide mode on Sonys), or do you use a 'pinpoint' and recompose? (the latter is still easily doable on a D700 or 5D/6D btw!). Herein lies the conundrum, how does the camera know what you want to focus on? And even if it did, would you enjoy that at all? It seems to me that we are left with closest object mode (wide), or manual focus (nice if you have the time available) or center point the focus and recompose. The only thing that has semi-demi-hemi changed this has been the recent find a face type AF systems, which can easily find the wrong face too. And then you lose time in the moment getting the AF onto what you really wanted focus on, essentially making your original method of center point focus faster, as that is just stab, then shake sideways and fire - ah, dilemmas huh!
@@DrZeeple which is why, for my weddings, I mostly use 3d tracking where I can choose what to focus on with a small box but then use technology to stay focused on that. Suspect the Sony out on the street maybe the same. Thanks Allen
My street camera is the Nikon F5. Shoot always black and white. Have big hands and the Nikon F5 fits like a glove. For every day portraits shoot always with my two Nikon D4. For street and portraits i use the Nikon AF 85mm f/1.4D IF lens. Love the 85mm lens which i still use since 1996. Use also the Nikon AF DC 105mm f/2D, Nikon AF DC 135mm f/2D, Nikon AF 180mm f/2.8D ED and the Nikon AF 80-200mm f/2.8D ED. People on the street like the Nikon AF 80-200mm f/2.8D ED on my camera. And it’s easy to take photos with them.
I have two reservations with Sony. One being the color science when it comes to people. And the updates seem to be outdated quickly once a new device is in the market. Just wish it was more streamlined to include all versions. In terms of street credibility; have you considered xpro3 or perhaps a future xpro4 from Fuji. In terms of manual focus and if autofocus is not used as much. Another great contender is Nikon Zf, although a bit large but is a dream with voilglander 40 1.2 manual focus lens. That’s the way to go with Nikon. Obviously, these are suggestions based on my personal subjective preferences. Just wanted to add that I loved your honest and straightforward approach here. It’s really a rare and unique watch. Keep doing these videos. It’s so refreshing. Thanks a bunch ❤
Yea - the Sony skin tones are weird and for weddings (I used a A7iv and A9ii for 5 months this year) a deal breaker - but street is less about people, for me anyway as I have Saul Leiter as my inspiration and his colours were often way off with out of date film! The Zf is as you say a bit big and the Zfc has too few lenses and not weather sealed! Crazy.
Hi Allen, thanks for the great videos. I was thinking about getting the Sony A7CII but I am hearing so many bad things about the viewfinder been such poor quality is that your experience thank you
Hello Allen. It’s hard to find the right camera for street. I’m surprised you didn’t seem to look at the Zfc. You already have some lenses, but smaller camera.
My issue with Nikon since they went mirrorless is their lens line up. For weddings I use F mount 1.4 primes - I had their Z 1.8s lenses and hated the images I got so back to older F mounts which with the quite large Zf work fine. They wouldn't work well (for me) on a smaller Zfc and Nikon only have 1 decent DX prime (the 28 F1.4) Sony on the other hand have a good lineup and masses of 3rd party lenses to offer. Oh and the Zfc isn't weather sealed! Crazy and not good for a street camera!
Sony A7cii is in my opinion in terms of cost alone is a far better value than the Leica camera. You've also now proven to yourself that your Nikon has even better image quality than your Leica because you stated that your Nikon images are better than Sony ie wedding images when using a Sony A7iv, the same sensor as your a7c🙂. Sony will have a much larger menu system because its a hybrid camera also made for extensive video production - I've no idea why you'd want to use manual focus anymore for street photography, as you've so many different autofocus options on the Sony - Ive used Nikon extensively throughout my life and now shoot with an A7C - photo & video

Where are the " street " photos?
