Hey Maddy, I'm nearing the end of the Google UX Course and preparing case studies is a real barrier for me in terms of presentation and design for Behance. I've been looking for someone like to for help so I'm glad I've found you and will be checking out your content!

And then I found your amazing video. Super duper thank you!

I have heard that case studies should be more visual oriented than have too much writing since most recruiters and managers spend barely 2 minutes per case study during the hiring process. And the visuals should be understandable and depict the flow and purpose of the app so that the viewer doesn't have to scrutinize each paragraph. Can you please share your views on this?

Hi Maddy, this content is gold as I am preparing my first case study now :) I don't know yet which platform I will be using for my portfolio (probably Squarespace/Wix) so I'm wondering if I can just create the study in XD for now and later upload the images into any of those websites? Or will I have to redesign the whole study according to the templates of those websites? So I guess my question is if I have to check upfront if my chosen site will support uploading the whole study as an image(like Webflow does, I suppose)? Thanks a lot!!
Hey Jenya! yay I'm so glad! :) Yes, you should definitely be able to upload all of your artboards as full-bleed images stacked on top of eachother in Squarespace or Wix! The method in this video is definitely geared towards Behance, but just like I've done you can definitely upload them to your personal site as well! Just be aware of responsiveness (text and other content that becomes too small on mobile, etc.) Hope that helps!
I am not able to upload my project moodboard in it's full quality. It's a .png file less than 10mb yet whenever i try to upload it the quality drops and my design looks really bad. Please help me with this problem.
Really helps! Thank you a lot. But, how you work/trick out with the overlapping images? For the shapes I quite understand with what trick you do, but for the images?
So if you create the shapes with this method, then you can use them as masks for the images! Basically you just have to have the image appear twice - one on the artboard above and one on the artboard below, and then just move them around until they line up perfectly :)

@@sarapodwysocka3922 Hey there! I have a whole skillshare class about Case Studies where the last couple videos go deep into uploading to Behance, so check that out if you want! skl.sh/3N6U4S3 But the short answer is you go into the settings and decrease the spacing to 0px. And the reason I like to do it in multiple images is that it loads faster since it only needs to load one at a time! :)
Hey Maddy I've currently finished my case study, now I'm designing. My one question is after you finished designing it did you export each artboard as a png and upload it to behance?
Hi Maddy, when you say you have completed the actual project, where have you put that together? I'm new to UI/UX so please excuse me. Have you put the whole project straight to be designed for a Behance site? Or do you do it somewhere else first and then do it again for the web :o
In this case, the project was a personal project and not for a client. It's meant to go up on my portfolio and hopefully get the attention of a real clients who might want to work on a similar project! :) So I created the app design in an Adobe Xd file and THEN I created this case study just for the purpose of presenting the personal project on Behance and on my personal site! Hope that answers your question :)
@@maddybeardUX yes thank you so much ☺️ I'm hoping to put mine into a PDF portfolio, I keep reading you shouldn't post the whole case study online or in the portfolio but how does it make sense to the reader If I cut bits out!? 😭
Then what? You exported the stacked art boards from Adobe XD as .jpeg files then upload to Behance? You missed the last step specially it’s mentioned on your title.
This is great, one question....I believe the case study you are reviewing through most of this video was done is XD? if yes, how did you get it from XD over to Behance? because you started the video in behance but then seemed to change programs, or did totally miss something? :-)
Yes, I design them in XD and then export the artboards as PNGs (or record MP4s for the animated sections) and upload them to Behance :) Does that answer your question?
@@maddybeardUX i think so, LOL, will know more when I get into behance to do my portfolio (still working on my case studies now). so do you recommend designing it in XD then exporting to behance? i'm completely new to all of this so I guess i just assumed i'd design it in behance, but is that even possible? thank you so much for responding.
Yes! Definitely recommend designing in Xd :) Behance isn't a designer, it's more of a way to assemble everything. You can add text and colored backgrounds, so you can *kind of* design in there. But if you want something more custom, you'll have to design then export for Behance
Hi Maddy, another question. why do my images look blurry after IMPORTING into XD? what file type and DPI should an image be when you know it will be imported in XD?
Good job on your case study but this looks very difficult to do. I don't know if I can do a case study this big and comprehensive. It might take me months or maybe even more and even then it might not look as good and professional as yours. I wanted to start ui/ux design but now i'm having doubt.
You can start smaller! Not all case studies have to be this in depth. :) I also have a Skillshare class to help with this exact topic if you’re interested: skl.sh/3LBrA2l

how do u save it because everytime i save a jpg or png in xd its blurry
Make sure your artboard is the right size :) When I export I choose PNG, "design" and 1X
@@maddybeardUX Thanks for replying!
whats the right size?!

Hey Maddy I've currently finished my case study, now I'm designing. My one question is after you finished designing it did you export each artboard as a png and upload it to behance?
Yes! I also have a whole case study class over on Skillshare in case you want to dive deeper :) skl.sh/3LBrA2l
Yes, it's definitely about striking a balance between being concise and also including enough info that it's easy to understand :)
Is the layout all done in Adobe XD or Behance?
Xd! :)
@@maddybeardUX Got it, thanks so much!
@@maddybeardUX so if I'm applying for internship or junior level job then my case studies can be smaller. Right?
I didn't like this video, I loved it!
Nice portfolio tutorial. Oh! you have a boyfriend!! Awwwwww!!
Thorough. Hard to find millennials doing this type of work that are detailed
