- Joe Simon first recorded country influenced R&B scoring a #1 R&B hit with "The Chokin' Kind" spending three weeks in the top spot in the spring of 1969.
He switched producers by joining the House of Sigma created by Leon Huff and Kenny Gamble and it revitalized his career. The first single issued was 1971's "Drowning In The Sea Of Love" written by Gamble and Huff and it peaked at #3 R&B and even went to #11 on the Hot100. It was the fourth of 8 Top40 hits and went gold in early 1972. It also made the cut for Billboards Top100 Songs of 1972 placing at #77 for the year.
It was his longest running and highest charting song until 1975's "Get Down, Get Down (Get On The Floor). I have remixed this jam for the discos here • Joe Simon ~ Get Down, ...
After his very successful recording career, he spent more time as a Baptist Minister until his death on December 13, 2021 in Simmesport, Louisiana the place of his birth.

One of my all time favorite soul-tracks (if not THE) is Joe Simon's - Your Time To Cry.
A masterpiece, in my humble opinion.
'Drowning In The Sea Of Love' is quite the masterpiece in itself as well.
A blaxploitation classic, on the same level as Curtis' and Charles Wright & the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band's blaxploitation stuff.
