There's been more supermax contracts than there are no trade clause contracts. It's so bad that I don't even know any player that has one at this moment.

      bradley beal has one.

The other side of this argument is that super max contracts allow teams to retain their superstars and build a future around them without the fear of those players leaving a year or two later. It builds a relationship with the player, team, and city, and by extension, the league and its fans by keeping superstars in their respective cities for years to come. Players can still request trades (talking about you Kevin), but if a team is offering a super max it incentivizes these players to stay for longer and thus builds brand recognition.

yeah, that's definitely the intention. I think an easy solve would be if a player signs for more than max money (super 1/3 the cap). He is unable to be traded even if he requests. It would work like a marriage of sorts. Also my next video is on trade requests, I think you might have thoughts on it.

And that’s exactly what has ruined the NBA and career of so many talented players in the last decade. Because franchises manipulate young talented players and convince them to sign those max contracts to essentially hold the player hostage until their prime has ended. (Look at Portland) Then you have pathetic franchises that lie and tell these players we’re making a move for this player, or we’ll draft this player, and they promise positive change that usually never follows. More often than not, the star player is betrayed by a franchise that does little to nothing to improve and that player spends the best years of their career putting up empty stats on a lottery team. That’s horrible for the fans and the players and only benefits the poorly run franchises that get to hold NBA stars hostage during rebuilds to sell tickets/merchandise at the expense of the players youth. And these franchises are dirty, they will never be honest with their young stars and admit when they’re rebuilding , they’ll say and do anything they can to convince the player they can win a ring on their team even if they know it’s a blatant lie. That’s why Supermax’s need to go.

@@whatslaps should be reduced to 30% - problem is you have to pay someone as its in the cba 50% revenue goes to players and 80% salary has to spent every season.

Yo whatslaps, back at it again with another fun one. Once again love getting your perspective on a new aspect of the league. I think you have a pretty levelheaded and fair opinion of much of what your talk about. It would be cool if you could get some of your ideas into the ears of some NBA execs and effect change in a positive way that would help out the overall direction of how things go. Not too much for me to add on this one, just want to let you know that I value what you give.

That's really nice of you to say! It would be really interesting to hear Adam Silver and the organization talk about how to improve the game. It might be fun to do a survey for fans asking what aspects of the game they find enjoyable or why they follow the NBA at all.
