This is a mysterious song . Everybody want to play this song in the world . This is a requiem for Princess Margarita who died in the middle of life . This performance is incomparable This technique is exquisite
I'm having trouble with this because my hands are not big enough my max range is at the limit every time after 2:20 (just a little edit I already managed to do it with no problems)
Try moving your right hand in a semi-circular motion to help with reach. Luckily here you don't need to play all the keys at once so I think it's supposed to be done with your right hand like this ;)
It has good sound but the tempo is wrong: / This piece is played extremely slowly. The Pavana presents harmonies, nostalgic expression and a slightly remote and beautiful melody. Listen to it in playback speed 0.75 , still enjoy it
Ravel himself played it roughly at that tempo or faster. The thing is, most people think the piece is meant to be sad because of the title, while Ravel didn't chose the title because of a deeper meaning but rather because it "sounded" nice. There is this blog-post (sadly in german) which also mentions this. Maybe google-translate helps: www.henle.de/blog/de/2015/08/31/ab-welchem-tempo-%E2%80%9Estirbt%E2%80%9C-ravels-%E2%80%9Epavane%E2%80%9C/
I love this piece but I hate a lot of the performances of it. The first three videos I've looked at, the performer decided that the sheet music didn't matter in the beginning and they'd just play it however they wanted. There are very clearly straight eigth notes in the beginning and these people are trying to turn it into some type of swing rhythm. The idea of the song is to mourn the death of a dead princess. Broken rhythms don't really sound sad...
That is not at all the idea behind this piece. Ravel described the piece as "an evocation of a pavane that a little princess [infanta] might, in former times, have danced at the Spanish court". When asked by the composer-conductor Manoah Leide-Tedesco how he arrived at the title Pavane pour une infante défunte, Ravel smiled coyly and replied, "Do not be surprised, that title has nothing to do with the composition. I simply liked the sound of those words and I put them there, c'est tout" This piece (not song) has nothing to do with a dead princess.
SlowBurn I wrote a whole research paper on this exact piece and the composer and can 100% back this up. This has nothing to do with an actual dead princess.
Hey, I'm a bit late to the pary but here's Ravel playing his own composition. Maybe that'll settle the argument. th-cam.com/video/eGybwV3U9W8/w-d-xo.html

Juan Pablo Salvador ravel was 5’3 chances are you could do it bud
@@Franjim34 maybe his piano was smaller lol
Wouldn't the sustain pedal be used at that part, since the reach is too far?

I find it plays better in 0.75 speed in terms of tempo (not sound)

I thought it was fast as well. I kept getting frustrated and just pausing between notes to drag it out lmao
Ravel actually preferred it played at a brisker pace than most play it at. You should take a look at his own performance of it.

It's a tongue-twister in French, which may be why Ravel chose the title.
