Le songwriter britannique Liam Bailey s'associait en 2020 au maître es groove Leon Michels pour un deuxième album où les riddims jamaïcains côtoyaient la soul sensible et le R&B mélancolique.
En enregistrant cet album "Ekundayo", ils ont fait des morceaux de reggae inspirés de différentes époques à côtés de morceaux de R&B modernes qui se situeraient plus facilement du côté de Frank Ocean que de Jacob Miller. C’est cette même idée que l’ancien et le nouveau peuvent vivre si tranquillement ensemble que naquit l’idée d’ "Ekundayo Inversions".
El Michels a décidé d’utiliser des méthodes utilisés avant et de faire autre chose en utilisant les influences d’aujourd’hui. Il a fini par s’éloigner tellement du format traditionnel qu’il ne semblait pas juste d’utiliser le mot « Dub », d’où "Ekundayo Inversions".
Toutes les chansons sont liées par des messages WhatsApp entre Leon et Liam qui racontent parfaitement l’histoire de ce disque et leur relation de travail !!!
