      It's a double-edged sword though. April Wilkner from ANTM Cycle 2 said it best in regards to people, namely Camille that same cycle, complaining about how they were portrayed on the show. She said something along the lines "They can only edit what you give them". She also noted that Camille's edit was actually better than it could have been. But, to use Phi Phi O'Hara's appearance in Season 4 as an example, she may have been given "Villain Edit", but she gave them the material to do that to her too.

    The worst secret is that the contestants are not paid to prepare their outfits in advance, are paid only about $200 per episode, and aren’t paid at all after they’re eliminated despite having to stay sequestered in their hotel the entire time they’re filming. Its gotten to the point where some queens ended up homeless after filming, and then RuPaul screams at queens like Joe Black on the stage when they buy one outfit at H&M. Pay your queens RuPaul!!!

    • @scottdreyer106

      Ummmm no one is forcing the queens to go on the show. If someone can't afford to skip out on their day job for a couple months of filming they *don't have to*. Also, if you are a queen and don't have an arsenal of good looks then don't apply. Many queens also reach out to designers and don't pay for the looks until after they've appeared on the show, and have made the money to pay back the designers. It's not that deep

    @JusticeForTheDead ปีที่แล้ว +53

    For all the super positive that Ru's show has done, and it's a lot - it can't be ignored how they edit things to make contestants saying one thing about a topic, look as if they're talking about another thing, and that they're wearing the same outfit in the confessional, so they can use it whenever they want. Also, the shadiest thing ever was Ru herself asking Max to sing something to catch her breath, then the producers twisting it to look like Max was kooky and a self-centered weirdo. That's soooo inappropriate. Then add in Ru not picking the amazing (yet obese) Ginger Minj when she was the obvious star of Season 6 & All-Stars Season 6. Ru told contestants they need to accept that they'll be made fun of for their weight, but she got mad when queens mocked "Drag U" in a skit, according to the wonderful Mrs Kasha Davis.

The aspect of the fact that it only takes 4 weeks to film a whole season makes a lot of sense when the queens will constantly talk about how much of a pressure cooker the competition is. Also if you read the article from Jan she gives a lot of other production tea like how they are given a buddy to do things like go to the pool and the gym and how they are given a whole list of songs to know in advance but not every song is used. This is the stupidest list ever. Half of these "dark truths" apply to all reality shows. Every reality show is filmed in a condensed time, contestants are often sequestered, multiple endings are filmed, DUH THE STORY LINES ARE EDITED AND MANIPULATED!

  • @JetPackDino
    @JetPackDino ปีที่แล้ว +27

    The Dark Truth I wish you'd have talked about is this: How often a contestant wins when it's also their first time ever trying out for the show. If you do the math with that, you'll definitely see the producer manipulation. Violet Chachki, Jinx, Sharon, Raja, Bianca, Bob TDQ, Aquaria-- the list is probably longer. They all got on the show the very first time they auditioned-- and won. This should tell us that production more or less chooses the winner and then selects the rest of the cast around them.
    ETA: Alright, so now I see that Violet made an audition tape for season 6, but I need to go watch that whole other video and find out if she really submitted it or not. Because I swear she said Season 7 was her first audition, and that she was too young before. But it's TV, so birthdays and recollections may vary. 😁

    • @JetPackDino
      @JetPackDino ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@teehee3657 You're right about Bob. But Violet was only ineligible because of her age. So from what I have gathered so far on Reddit (lol), everyone winner on Drag Race who actually won up to and including season 10-- besides Bob-- only auditioned ONE time, legally.
      Sasha Velour auditioned twice, yes. But Valentina? First time. Rupaul wanted Valentina FTW. Not saying Sasha isn't a good queen in her way, but the production had set up Valentina. The crown was Valentina's to lose, and... she lost it.
      Now, I need to research seasons 11-15.

      @dante6985 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JetPackDino "Everyone up to S10 auditioned only once except Bob. Oh and Sasha" and so? Let's be generous and say every winner S1-S7 and S10 only auditioned once. It also could be a coincidence. It's a little fishy, sure, but not evidence.

    We all are familiar with the fable, "The Empress has no clothes".
    RPDR was an instant success in my world: it was an affirmation of "Get used to Us", the GLBT+ culture is not going away.
    Rabid fans would cluster up for viewing parties. I was such a fanatic. And I am proud of it.
    But I abide a '3 Strikes Rule': and once RuPaul had his third strike after Season 6, I abandoned his persona and him. I have no justification for taking that long, but I was extending the 3 Strikes. Every offshoot of the DragRace franchise has the stench of the original show tainting hem.
    His Project 2005 was a precursor of Project 2025 and just as shady.
    I still admire the show: it showcases real consummate entertainers, so I only tune in to the performance portions and skip the RuPaul shenanigans. Win/Win.

    How in the world do they manage Queens who have medical implants?? I have surgical implants which are so damn old they set off every metal detector in the world. Do they actually make them get naked to confirm it is *in* - and not *on* - the Queens’ bodies, or do they take it so far as to take them for imaging at a hospital? Or, having a medical implant, does that mean i could swallow a phone or at least a very small camera and tie it to my teeth so i could get by on the surgical implant amd then swallow a small enough phone in a bag?
    For context (because I am well aware of how insane this sounds), i was the head clinician in a prison for a lot of😊 years, and this was a common, if incredibly dangerous and stupid, way of sneaking on contraband. It still😮 morbidly obsessed witn the method ans how they set it up and get it out without throwing up EVERYWHERE.

    Using Willam as a source💀she's the same girl who openly wants to go back on All Stars, and speaks against the show because it gives her podcast good ratings lol. Not to mention, she spreads numerous lies - such as saying how Drag Race UK Season 3 was filmed in 10 days - which people genuinely believed and the queens themselves had to debunk.
    There def is some shadiness from production; but there's a reason why 90% of queens end up enjoying their time on drag race and being willing to go back. There's obviously stressful elements (both financially and competition-wise) but it's TV.
