Relativistic Kinetic Energy: Simplified | This is Why Nothing can travel Faster than Light

  • What is Relativistic Kinetic Energy? Why can no object travel faster than the speed of light, no matter how much energy you provide?
    These are the questions I try to answer in today's video. First we will discuss the mass energy equivalence principle. Then we will talk about relativistic energy, mass and relativistic kinetic energy. I will show how the Relativistic kinetic energy can be approximated to Newtonian kinetic energy under low velocity approximations. Using Work energy theorem we can obtain the energy needed to accelerate an object to the speed of light. As it turns out we need to provide infinite energy to accelerate an object to light speed; which simply means that the speed of light is a speed barrier in our Universe. Nothing can reach the speed of light (except massless particles)

    Two questions that I've yet to find satisfactory answers to:
    1: what does the leading edge of a spider silk molecular structure look like. In other words, What orientation does it have. What does it look like.
    2: What does the leading edge of the translating light beam, its front edge, look like. Slowed down by a trillion frames per second, how do we visualize transverse vibration at the surface of that beam.

    I admire your passion and teaching skills. That said, what my problem is with this video is that you said that a mass object can't travel faster than c and you also said that it can travel faster than c. You just picked the equation you seem to like better, maybe just because Einstein impressed you more. Newton used valid equations as well. So who's right really? In actual fact, nothing's been demonstrated as far as I'm concerned. Physics people use much too much equation and not enough conceptual understanding to my taste. The only answer you provide in this video is that a mass object cannot go faster than c because your equation says you can't. No experimentation and no explanation. My thought experiments about this most sought question tend to prove Newton. I prefer thought experiments because they get you to put physics in action rather than academic equation juggling, forgive my saying it this way. I don't mean to sound arrogant or pedant. I hope you see my point. All is proven here is the equation you picked over the other one says it can't, and now everybody must believe the equation. I admire Einstein but the relativity principle, to me, proves speed is additive. Experiments will also prove that. But somebody said an equation says it's not additive at much higher speed. Will the sum of atoms of an object equal a different mass or even an infinite mass than at rest because you added kinetic energy that actually transforms in movement? Not to me. But if you do think so, I'd really like to get the explanation.

    Trying to show this with relativistic correction to Newton's 2nd law can get confusing, thus requiring it to be addressed.
    This is so because you can always apply a gravitational field, as acceleration due to gravity is same for all massive particles, this makes it look like you can accelerate a particle travelling near the speed of light to beyond the speed of light, by simply applying a gravitational field. This however is not true.
    Thus, it is advisable to rather work in the energy approach, and to avoid confusions, with 4-vectors(like 4-force).

    • @FortheLoveofPhysics
      @FortheLoveofPhysics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ether doesn't exist. It was a hypothesis regarding an absolute frame of reference of the Universe. Acc to relativity, no such preferential or absolute reference frame exists. Every inertial frame is equally valid.
      Gravitational waves is the wave of contraction (of space time fabric) that travels through space time after an enormous gravitational event

    @new-knowledge8040 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Or you can look at it another way. Everything is in motion, just as much as light is in motion. Let's call that degree of motion, the "c" magnitude of motion. So if a spaceship is at true rest in space, meaning being at rest within the spatial portion of the 4D space-time environment, its entire "c" magnitude of motion is now across the dimension of time only. This "c" magnitude of motion thus determines the fastest speed of which the spaceship can move across time. However, if the spaceship begins to move across space, it will of course now be moving slower across the dimension of time due to this change in the direction of travel within space-time. Thus, the passage of time will slow down. But the point is that not only does this ongoing "c" magnitude of motion within space-time determine the fastest speed at which one may move across time, but it also determines the fastest speed at which one may move across space.

    You ought to write the equation of Relativistic mass (m) when Rest mass = zero and
    v = C. Then Relativistic mass (m) - Gamma rest mass/zero = 0/0 or Relativistic mass (m) = 0/0.
    BUT what does m = 0/0 mean? Is it meaningless, or 0, or infinity? No!. It means Multiple Right Answers. So when Rest mas = zero and v=C then Relativistic mass = m can have a VARIETY of Positive Values. Therefore Different Photons can have Different poitive masses and different energies DESPITE SAME C. Hence a blue photon has more energy than a red photon because it has greater 'm' or Relativistic mass than a red photon EVEN though BOTH have same C.. Also ONLY particles with Rest mass = zero can achieve C. THAT is their secret Strength!

    I'm sorry, I really have to express this: another aspect I'm discontent with when it comes to academic explanations, is that you start with a mathematical expression (equation) and you use it to "prove" what reality is. Your starting block is an equation. It's like a belief system here. You believe in the equation so much that you state what reality is according to it, (not even what reality could be). Shouldn't it be the other way around. Observation of reality and then find an equation to express it in math form. Seems to me Newton used observations then put it in math form rather than the opposite. You see my point? Again, I don't mean it as a critics but just stating my disagreement.
