@@lancerambert that means Dunlop-MXR brand evangelist Bryan Kehoe gave me one a few days before release. It was a peer to peer industry "gift". By lowdown, I meant he expected me to not post pictures of it on social media 5 seconds after he gave it to me. ;-)
This is a really impressive, feature-rich pedal that still maintains classic MXR simplified controls. Immensely useful for my ambient and post rock exploration. Thanks.
The flexible of this pedal is pretty mind-blowing. You gave us everything we needed and more. Can't wait to try it out. Especially love the preset movement with the expression pedal, the diffusion and sub with wet only. Pretty coool.
EHX Freeze and Superego have ben out for over a decade, took this long to add all the extra features i suppose. But they are very, very cool and useful, good job jim!
I want an mxr box that says digital delay on it. Its the ONLY thing my Dunlop/MXR board is missing. I had ta go with a Boss DD. Cmon guys... Lemme win just once
Pretty sweet pedal! The last min or so after the "additional information" part, where distortion was in the mix, I wonder if this pedal was used for that last added distortion part for the outtro tune, that was very very nice! MXR make the best pedals especially delays, have been for donkeys years. I trust their build quality, clarity of delay is very well done, balanced, but this one the layers I can see myself personally getting into a mess very quickly without a decent understanding of how to operate it, and I'd say from experience setting up in stereo out would be a standard operating procedure every time, you can beat stereo! I wonder how well it would handle stereo in from another pedal like any of the Boss DD delays, Boss OD 200 or stereo in from a Helix multi fx pedal. How well would this MXR Layers pedal handle a relatively simple signal chain configuration coming from the end of the signal chain of a multi fx pedal, where you can do most of what this one can do on anyway on multi fx oedals but here able to hold multiple sustains, having that sustain and sub octave ontrolled via the layers pedal, I'm interested in hearing what new sounds could be made by mixing it all up like that! Seems pretty simple to operate on its own fir sustain, delays, but it'd have to be on my desk for starters until I can fine tune some of my own sounds and take note, record video and sound for inventory in order to recreate. Without trying it out for myself I can't give a marks out of 10, but I'll sure to be keeping an eye out for this one in my local music shops. SEND SOME TO Kennys mudic in Aberdeen City Scotland, and RamJam Aberdeen City Scotland, they already have a pretty good selection of interesting pedals like this and I'm sure they'd sell.
For stereo in/out, are you saying I need to flip the internal switch then can run a Y TRS cable into the Layers for input? Then for output, do we HAVE to use that split/tap unit or are we able to use another Y TRS cable out?
It seems like ordering phisical perceptions and manipulating them through projections of symbols and points in colors and motions. More I found order in every moment
the video is very helpful an very well made, but i'd have liked a printed manual too in the box, instead of the generic and pretty useless quick start guide.
Sounds great but not user friendly. Just because you can get those features into a compact chassis doesn’t mean you should. When you think about the footprint of the trs split &;tap you may as well of produced a big box version and given some of these functions their own controls.
Does not look conducive to playing live on a dark stage ... Does it come with a flashlight ? 🔦 . Sorry folks, hold on until the guitar player reads the manual to figure out the LEDS and settings. ZZZZZZZZZ
I am still waiting for the MIDI part...where is Midi? Such a powerful pedal can't be launched without the chance to save presets... I can't believe that in 2024 a great company like Dunlop is sending all over the world a pedal with all those features without a fuc*in midi input. Unbelievable... 🤡🤦
I got a Layers pedal on the lowdown a few weeks back and it's an amazing pedal. Great job MXR!

Ive owmed the 2 superegos and the pico freeze. This one goes beyond. ❤
MXR has always been a badass with pedals.
...even when the usability is close to zero! Still, badass company!
Blown away. Hats off to you guys. That was legit, and a statement to the ambient and textural world.

Dear Jim Dunlop
you made pick is powerful, very hard, and has a Randy Rhoads sound.
Seems like a great tool to add to my ambient arsenal
People do ambient when they can’t play!

@@javiceres I see, now. Thanks 👍🏼 … not a pedal-type that I’m familiar with, but this looked interesting. Cheers for that. 😎
Stereo I/O and external trigger/expression are really cool. I wish it had Midi but hey you can't have everything you want.
love my walrus slo, but this looks useful for looping and atmospheric stuff as well

Cool Pedal, great addition to Carbon Copy:D
Might work well with the Freq-out…
This is really neat- however I would like to hear someone use it with some really dirty guitar. Or I suppose I'll just have to get one!

Great set of features! Can the secondary controls also be controlled by expression?
I am wondering the same thing. If so then I can see using this over my super ego.

1:15 What is the tolerance for a double-tap on the footswitch? Like, how quick you must double-tap for turning off to work as designed?
I was already excited about the pedal, but I also have to know where to get that guitar. A shell pink sg with p94s? Sign me up!

Seems so. 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
Love pedals and love ambient, but like many pedals that do slightly odd things, it's the sort of thing I would use once, then gathering dust.
Does this pedal have a soft/silent footswitch or the usual MXR-type?

I don’t personally need this with the options I already have on my board but for small boards this could be absolutely great
