    Question? I have some cuttings that I up potted from a dixie cup to a 1-gallon container one month ago. I decided today to check a few of the plants and some of the figs are already root bound in the bottom of the planter. Should I go ahead and up pot them again and to what size?

    I overwintered my fig trees in my garage. I didn't get them out in time and now the new branches are long and linky.
    What can I do to save them?

      Leave them in the shade for a week, introduce them to the sun, prune them for form while dormant before next Spring, get them out on time.

      Avoid sunburn at all costs. Eventually the branches will thicken back up in the sun.

    I live in south Louisiana, trying to grow celest figs in grow bags.when and how do I prune them to keep them in a tree form

      When do you prune suckers? When they form, during dormancy, or at any time. If it's a young tree, let it grow.

    Just curious.. Have you tried using PGR's to increase fig size, like Cytokinins (CPPU, 6BA or TDZ) and Gibberillins (GA3)?

    How do you keep the branches bent and for how long?

      Until they don't need support. Probably a full year.

    Question: What happens if the bud can be removed by hand? I wanted to keep the bud, but I don't see that it survived the winter. Zone 6b near 6a, planted in ground Chicago hardy with mulch without other protection.

      Remove any dead wood! That's one of the issues in colder zones. The cold does the pruning for us.

    Getting ready to move, and have to prune mine BACK (today she's female. Wishful thinking!) Way back. I've done it before, with covering her after, with one opening for light for two months... but it was the dead of Winter. Is there a method you recommend for a Spring or Summer hard prune for a 15 y.o., mostly healthy tree?

      If you're moving the tree, you gotta go what you gotta do. The roots are more important than the top. Take as many roots with you as possible. The top should be cut back hard to about a foot. When transplanting tamp down the soil around the roots as good as possible. That's critical. Leave no air pockets.

      @RossRaddi Thank you so much for the thoughtful response. To a FOOT...🤯😅. Wow! OK, if I were living the dream outside of the Del. Valley. What I see from your message is I CAN cut it way back with few worries. Most grateful. The main trunk is at least 5 feet tall, and ~5" circumference at the soil line. I'd be scared I'd have a ton of baby branches sprawling LOW, for this coddled indoor tree.

    Hey I just noticed on one of my fig trees light green spots on the two newest leaves. (It's has a 6 or more already) it just seems odd it's the new leaves. Thanks!

      @@RossRaddi it has more small spots like an 1/8 in round. I'm thinking maybe insects cuz the leaves don't look modeled and pachey

    Hi Ross, thank you for your very informative video! I also live near Philadelphia and , after watching your videos, planted two figs last weekend. I have no experience. Some people on internet suggest pinching the apex of the branches at the end of the summer to speed up the ripening of the existing fruits and to stop the production of the figs that will not have time to ripen. Does it mean that this would slow down the growth next spring because this removes the part with the growth hormones? Do you have any opinion, or experience explanation of such steps? Another guy suggested to put a drop of olive oil on the eye of the figs to help them to ripen faster. Is that true and helpful? 😮 Thank you! 🙏

      @RossRaddi  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Pinching and oiling can speed up the ripening process when preformed correctly. Pinching actually changes the hormones in a way to promote the formation of more apical buds next year. It can be a powerful technique when shaping a young tree.
