    Much thanks to you and to Bremen for this (Bremen must be a really cool guy to be willing to show his flaws to benefit others). I have the same exact problem. No body rotation, bad swing path, and pushing rather than swinging through. I think mentally, my backhand has always been my worst shot, so I have this fear that I will make bad ball contact and shank it. So, I push/block the ball with that forward motion to guarantee contact rather than swinging through it with body rotation. Pushing prevents spin, making my already naturally flat two-handed backhand even flatter. So, I try to compensate by brushing up, which thins the shot even more. The result is a weak ball with no pace. It's a terrible downward spiral. This video really helps me put into words what I was feeling was wrong all this time!

    Excellent lesson !
    The advantage of having a great Coach, who identifies the error, corrects it on time and, most importantly, exemplifies what movement the racket should make. This is a tremendous asset to understand how the two handed backhand should be executed.
    Because the biggest problem for those who start playing is having an image of how to hit the backhand or forehand that does not correspond to reality and they spend months developing an incorrect movement.
    Having someone exemplify the movement correctly is priceless!
    The same goes for the forehand forward but circular motion, right Nik ?

    Women and Juniors typically have a more flowing two-hander, they don't have the arm/back power so they have to use the body. Strong guys (who started older) have the power to muscle the ball which can lead to back problems.

    • @markchan006
      @markchan006 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i am a skinny guy, so i don't have a problem with my flow on BH because I knew from day 1 I needed trunk rotation to have any sort of power. I notice many good BH on ATP came from skinny guys too like Djokovic, Medvedev and Zverev.

    Loved the swing path advice coach👏👍and it really worked for me last night. Before that I was doing it the exact wrong way as you were describing, just grazing up and over head. I used your two handed backhand swing path for forehand as well and it seemed to work, is that a good swing path for forehand as well? Maybe that swing path is better for two hand together with strong lever action power on backhand, and not on forehand where you have only one hand holding the racket. You thoughts? Thanks.

  • @jameszhang3672

    It's hard to generate a natural whipping motion on two handed back hand, especially for muscular people. At the beginning I paid too much attention on prep early and head drop, which interrupted the flow of the swings and resulted weak returns. Shadow swings with an imaginary ball helped a lot. The lesson i learned is that all these technical details are important but shouldn't be forced eventually. You pay attention to them at the beginning for sure but after lots of practices they should just come naturally

    Nik, should you feel like your non dominant hand is controlling the shot more than the dominant hand… i feel that as i accelerate into the shot, letting the left arm dominate I hit far more consistent, a lot more spin and much more power?
    I guess it’s like asking, do you pull from your rh side or do you push from you lh side… as a righty?

    Nick, don't know if you mind answering my question on 2HBH.
    Do you think it's bad if the takeback is very exaggerated (racket tip came out of the non-hitting side of the body)? Some coaches suggest the racket shouldn't go past 180degrees.

    Dude is buff so maybe he excels at other areas but this is 3.0 tennis (at least his backhand). Or maybe Florida usta ratings are just inflated which may be the case.

      @caioscofield ปีที่แล้ว

      @icyolives lol, most people play USTA in teams and people mostly self rate for NTRP, it mainly control forced promotions if youre too good for your level, afaik people can self inflate all they want (within reason). UTR is real results.

    • @icyolives
      @icyolives ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@caioscofield you can self-rate whatever you want but your rating gets adjusted when you start playing matches. I agree that UTR is a more accurate rating, but both rating systems use your results

    I will say this without hesitation, the two handed backhand is a superior shot to the one handed backhand. Unless you are roger federer, the one hander is too hard to execute in a match situation at the rec level.

    • @markchan006
      @markchan006 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      and pro level too...But due to the popularity of RF many ppl play with 1HBH at rec level since some ppl don't really care about winning (which is by no means wrong since there's no prize money to be offered) and they just want to play like their hero.

    He wasn’t bringing the racket far back enough either. I disagree with the hitch part or dropping the racket head at the beginning. I do that with the correct swing path and I get a heavy shot out of it.
