Hey guys glad to find you well. Just a tip for electrical connections... any time you plug 2 wires together on a boat use some anti corrosion electric grease like NO-OX-ID a conductive grease or dielectric grease a non conductive grease to preserve the connection and ensure it does not become an intermittent connection.
Hi Ryan & Elena, hey great vid.! I have been watching your channel almost since you started and I can say that in this one your happiness now is very evident! Everything looks like it has improved for you, not only the boat performance but also your confidence, comfortableness on board, skills, etc, etc.! It was nice to see and watch! Enjoy hey!
Thanks for your reply, appreciated! Hey jfyi, I have actually now this past week started a sailing channel, it's about building my boat, in case you may have any interest. th-cam.com/users/bmwfreedomvideos All the very best and ENJOY that costa de España!!
I love your videos and you have become so much comfortable with the camera. Glad to see you're in the med finally. Think about that Atlantic crossing Elena - get out of the cold! Kittiwake could do it with the right seas. Bless you both.
My friend asked me why I had said put the fan near the exhaust out of the boat. when I have fitted composting toilets they are normally put in damp heads you hang your wet weather gear their shower maybe by diverting the exhaust out of the area and putting the fan there you will find it lasts longer also a liberal amount of Vaseline petroleum jelly on terminals helps
Well kids, another chapter in your crossing in the Med. I am surprised at how cold the weather has been for you, but, come to think of it, I am not so sure I know what time of the year these postings took place! Liked your idea of soup to calm a queezy stomach. My Mom always gave us that when things just wouldn't settle while at sea. Mom's always know best!
Isn't it just typical. You go to fix something on a boat and you either have a spare part that's either too big or to small. (Been there many times). I wouldn't worry too much about Kittiwake in harsher conditions Elena. Those Heavenly twins are very well built and constructed, That's why there are still so many of them about. The same can be said for the Tom Lack range of catamarans Like the Catalac 8/9 meter. Like Kittiwake, They will go on for ever and ever if their well maintained and both you and Ryan have proved that. Terry.....
I have the experiance that a atlantik crossing in the right time is much easier, than to cross the med from Gibraltar to greece or somewhere else in the eastern Med. Get your windvane running and get out of the Med in August or early September to avoid the depressions with southwesterly winds on your way to Madeira or the Canaries. Nice video Thumbs up as always
Cheers Al! There should be a little more footage of it in the next video. It’s just what you see - the outer unfinished walls. You can also see it on the Navionics web charts or Google maps (Mar Menor, Caleta del Estacio). There’s a few basins and we chose the most protected for the conditions we had on the day 😊
Hi guys; I really like your videos, you are very good at this type of thing. I heard you talk about sailing the Atlantic; do you have asperations for doing something like that. It would be very interesting to see you brave the blue water crossing. Keep up the good work and as long as you make the videos I will be watching them.
Free Marina ! Wish we had one of those between Portland and the Solent instead of the super expensive ones we have. If I found one I'd plant a flag and call it Tortuga 🤣
From what I have read and heard from other sailors that use it on their bottoms, it will increase speed by half a knot to a full knot depending on point of sail. I fully intend to use it on my hull when I purchase a boat.
guys, when you fan dies dont put it back in the holder, put a fan near yo where you exhaust out of the boat or go to a solar vent then you don't need the fan at all
Hi, enjoyed this episode, some lovely sailing. What time of year is it? I thought I spotted snow in the last one, glad to have it confirmed. Is that the Sierra Nevada? I used to have a Hirrondelle, running and broad reaching always used the spinaker pole to hold out the genoa, attach by the stay, not mast, it holds it to a much better shape and gives far more pull. Almost as good as the spinnaker. You need to attach with a quick release, though with a centre cockpit that should be easy. Boat speed, are you any lighter? Do you, did you lift the outboard? Or just become better more confident sailors.
Hi Mark, we find that we don't need the spinnaker pole for the genoa, as our sheeting angle is so wide. It's a great advantage of an HT. We think the smooth coppercoat bottom helped with the boat speed quite a bit.
@@SailingKittiwake Watch the weather carefully, a bit unpredictable this time of the year, stormy. I suppose you are suffering that just now. I'm up the coast, Oliva. You may consider sailing up, maybe to Moraira and cross from there, that way, you can do it in one day. Also quite a lot of fishing boats, more at night (give them big space, they don't respect the colregs) and cargo ships. Good winds
Question: What happens to the poo once it goes into the composting toilet, how much poo can it hold. Do you dump the composted poo overboard? Nasty topic, but would be very informative... Thanks!
Hi Juup! Yep, we wanted some more relaxed sailing to try it out and experiment with it. As it's our first windvane we are glad we did, there's more to learn. But once you've figured it out it's lovely! Much quieter than the autopilot and no battery usage :D
In real time, great! 😊 we had a very tight window during this crossing - about 5 days where the wind was blowing in the right direction just enough to push us to Balearics from Gibraltar, and there were high winds. We felt it was too difficult to test it then - we were in a rush and rough conditions aren’t ideal for learning 😉
Did You know: there is no such thing like "sneaking" when sitting aboard a boat even a single-eyed creature (aka "Cyclops" or "Capt. Sparrow" 😂) is able to optically recognize from way farer than earshot .... Have a ball, wherever You might've reached to date! 🍻
Mike, we can only capture some of the things that happen. If I’m seasick, I’m useless, no doubt. We can’t film everything and I’m usually the one who films, so it’s hard to show what I do, as I’m holding the camera. Want a list of the things I do on board? No problem. I work to make a living, I sail the boat as much as Ryan, do equal watches on passage, check the weather as much as Ryan, helm when we anchor (and decide where), helm when the sea and wind get rough, helm into marinas or up to mooring buoys, put the boat back together after each passage on my own, trim the sails, change course, cook and wash up every meal,... do I need to continue? We split everything 50/50, and when it’s not possible I do something as useful as what Ryan does, like when he installed the windvane I was working... So please stop leaving these judgemental comments, thanks 😊
Thanks for the advice Captin, but if I stand up straight the chain pops straight off the roller. Don't worry, I've done it a couple hundred times by now :)
Adding another or larger roller is far easier than dealing with a slipped disk or strained/pinched Sciatica - the latter I dealt with and took three years to figure out what caused it and get it fixed - you guessed it pulling up my anchor chain, just saying try and get a set up where you can sit and pull with your legs
In all your voyage s, most of the time you fallowing the shore most of the time no more than 50 miles from shore, why you don't make sea crossing? You are afraid that Kittiwake can't handle it?
Haha. We crossed Biscay, and we've done plenty of other offshore passages in her when we needed, but we just follow the cruising routes so we can see places.

Kittiwake would certainly be able to make the crossing. Start evaluating your tackle and condition of your sheets and sails.

Aw thanks so much! ❤️ It eventually got REALLY HOT! Hehe. We’ve been in the heat since June now 👌
Fair winds!
Miles of smiles in this one!😀Loving watching your adventures ,such a pleasure. Thanks guys👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Another great vid. I heard many people have had horrible and disappointing results with copper coating. What's the trick to it being successful?
Very good video again! Love the storytelling and also your explaining of why and how you are planning your next leg.. Thanks!!
Thanks a lot 😊

Isn't it being at the loo end of the exhaust better for protecting it from the elements?

Try it , you may be surprised. Better shape, better area, does not flop around.
Thanks Mark, we have tried it and found it better without.
Hi,
Nice video. Thanks.
It's your plan cross from there to Ibiza?
Yep 😊

Hi guys, i m enjoying your videos, i d like to ask you which is your final destination? Are you planning to come here to italy? Bye
Ciao! We don't have a final destination - we decide as we go. Yes, we're currently in Sardinia.
Navily looks like a great app. Thanks for that. Have you used active captain?
It’s great! We’ve been using it all summer and it was 👌 Nope, we heard it’s paid for?
so how is the new windvane autopilot doing? It seems disconnected the last few videos?

Your cat should be fine to jump the Atlantic, pick your time of year and ride the trades 👍
Hi NICCAT! Yep, plenty of HTs have made it across... and back... and some all the way around
how are you getting on with the wind vane ?

ok great i look forward to watching about it in future episodes
The islands are the BalEArics, not the Balaerics. I've never been there.

I hear "this year the boat is so much quicker"? Why is that
?
Because of all the work we did in the yard to smooth the bottom.
