- This is the way I am currently doing my final polish on the jade I am carving. I use it on toki, kuru, and other carvings. I sand and smooth the pounamu first with wet and dry sand paper up to 400 grit.
Hi can I ask, where do you get your drill bits, please?
From. Many places. I often just buy cheap ones online. Good brand for quality is hongia
Thank you for the good demo....please can you advise the trade name of the product you are using as a polishing compound
Best regards from Tanzania 🇹🇿
It is called fabulustre.
If you're only going to 400 grit W/D paper, it's more likely that the wax base that carries the aluminum oxide in the compound is cutting the 'dusty' surface of the jade, making it seem like there is some true polishing happening. Beeswax would be a less expensive alternative to fabulustre, giving exactly the same results.
Great point, a better term would be finishing then as this is not really polishing. Polishing is a whole process in it self that I have not properly explored. Thanks for the input.
Can you explain is actually happening to the stone if anything when you say 'cutting the dusty surface'?
@@CampbellCarving I don't know the physics of what is actually happening or the terminology( obviously lol), but by "cutting the dusty surface", I mean it's the same reaction you would observe if one picked up a piece of stone and licked it. (😖) Or put oil on it( or applied a wax based compound with a rapidly spinning felt bob thereby heating the surface enough to melt said wax base, and creating a 'wetted' look, seemingly polished.) BTW, this takes nothing away from your obvious talent and skill. I really dig what you're doing and I especially like the way you've made your own machinery.
I had a go without the fabulustre step and finished straight to a wax bath. I reckon the fabulustre step makes a big difference, removes all the 400 grit scratches. While it may not technically be polished to a high gloss it is still an important final step for me.
@@CampbellCarving can i ask what kind of wax you use in your wax bath? is it parrafin wax?
I have seen guys use products like zam and other metal polishing compounds to polish jade, have you ever tried any other products to try to get a deeper glass like finish?
I havent I don't like super shiny polishes on mine. I prefer more of a stone feel than glass fell.
@@CampbellCarving I agree with you, I high polish certain parts of my work and leave other parts more natural looking.
Hello what was the name of the product that you use to polish your jade?😁
Nice bro...
Thanks
Hey i live in southern oregon - i have a creek near me where you can fine some of the finest jade in the world- if you ever want to come hunt some product let me know-
Awesome bro next time I'm in the states I'll try and get myself to southern oregon. Thanks
Do you sell any of it? DM me if you do
Really enjoying your videos. Just wondered if you have a video coming up that shows the progression of using different grit diamond burrs to shape and then progressively smooth out the tool marks from the heavier grit burrs ?
I'll keep that in mind, add it to the list of videos, it would be a good one.
Do you know if you found it uncomfortable carving serp which has asbestos? Also, where did you get the water drip from?
I made the water system myself, pretty much built all my own tools, way cheaper. I haven't had any issues with nephrite or serp, just making sure it is kept wet.
Where can i get me some fabuluster bro?
www.amazon.com/Fabulustre-1-LB-Polishing-Compound/dp/B000RB07JG just Google it, find the best price.
Thanx
I was wondering about the polishing material that you are using. It’s very difficult to understand the brand name you mentioned. Thank you
It is called fabulustre
Thank you and keep up the good work. Much appreciated
Sorry, what did you use as a polishing cream?
I am using a product now called fabulustre.
Hey bro do you have any suggestions for what to use when "polishing ona budget"? Someone said to me olive oil and lemon juice but i wasnt to sure about it haha
Oil will give it a finished look but won't polish. Depends on what your working with but some sort of polishing powder or paste is what I would go for, even something for metal might work
@@CampbellCarving awesome, appreciate that!
