This is a 2-4 player card/dice game. Each turn, players simultaneously roll dice to determine who has the highest roll value while also using pre-selected cards to assist them in either improving their die roll or defending.
Love the idea of combining playing cards and dice. I've been working on a game. To add a "board" with pieces into the mix gets crazy. But you can use the cards as pieces, hidden like Statego, until an Attack happens revealing the cards. Then you can roll 1 of either your 4 sided, 6 sided, 8 sided, 12 sided, or 20 sided dies to augment your card. However, once you roll a die, it is set aside until all your other dice have been used. Then you get them all back. When a card is destroyed it is removed from the game. The victor can choose to move his card forward, however that card can be surrounded and at risk. Any cards bordering the card (except diagonally) can jointly defend, but cannot be augmented by Dice. 🎲🎲 Defender cards cannot move forward after winning a battle. The winner is decided by reaching the other side of the board. New cards only placed at the rear, one per turn if there is a slot open. Still working on it, but I love mixed games. Keep up the good work. I like the idea of each suit having special abilities, I've been focused on Black vs Red to keep it simple.
Always pick cards with 7 or close to 7! The probability distribution of 2d6 (two six sided dice roll) is represented by the Gauss curve. In other words, the number with highest probability of rolling on 2d6 is 7 (1+6, 2+5, 3+4, 4+3, 5+2, 6+1). The further you go from 7 (up or down) the probability goes lower as there are less combinations you can get your number with. Probability of rolling 7 is 16,67 %. On the other hand rolling 2 (only one possible combination 1+1) has probability of only 2,78 %.
Therefore I would suggest not to remove 10, J, Q, K, A, but 2, Q, K, A and count J as 11 for shorter game or remove 2, 3, J, Q, K, A for longer game. The reason is removing cards that are on the farthest side of 7 in order no to break the probability distribution.
Catan players know this by hearth :v
This is why D12 is usually superior (unless you're using a mechanic that requires you to aim for an average- such as rolling initial stats)
Few problems
1.What do we do if all players has no cards in their hands
2.Are the attack and defend cards still active when its on the table?
May want to change the name. There's already a published card game named Epic Spell Wars
He has a game called Ascension also.... -_-
The name doesn't really matter since this is more of a game you play with friends at a party
It's not like he is selling this game
Interesting. Definitely like the fact that you broke down the phases made it very accessible. and I like the mechanic during the cool-down phase where do you have a chance to get your cards back that you played previously.
You should compile a book of these it could be cool
I would add effects depending on what color you pick for your dice. Like your Ascension game and the card types. ‘Red’ could be burn damage if you roll doubles and White could heal if you roll doubles. Something that would make the game more competitive.
You could cheese this by only taking cards with 7 on them because 7 is the most rolled number on 2d6's. Otherwise nice game.
Pretty sure that's intentional. It makes the drafting phase more strategic.
Black-attack Red-defend
I'm confused... How, after the cool down, do you get more cards to make a hand?
i think we get more cards by restarting the game. somewhere in the instructions, it says that we can play multiple rounds to determine the winner, so i’m assuming it means we shuffle the cards and deal them again
cool ideas - love it...
How about deal 1 or 2 Joker cards to every player, and they could be played as a bluff card, so nobody know how many club/spade cards you played ?
Not a bad idea...good for advanced players
Love the game! But,
Maybe change the numbers of the cards. 7 is statisticly the most rolled number out of 2 dice. So make that the ‘middle’. Then go 3 above and under. So take; 4,5,6,7,8,9,10.. so there is a higher chance of getting you cards back. the rest you can use for the healthpack as they dont matter.
Also people want to get high numbers on their dice so it might even be a higher number, but I think its good to not include J & Q into it to counter the winner a little.
i’m confused about the timing between the attack & defend phases. so does a losing player finally take damage after the defend phase since this phase allows the player to alter their dice? or do they already take damage during attack phase?
also, when do the attack cards take effect? i noticed that the spades card was used after the defend cards, so i’m not sure exactly.
and lastly, how do the card values help in terms of the attack phase? during that phase, you mentioned that you won not only because of your dice roll, but also your attack cards.
You said this is a 2 to 4 players so if that’s the case so in a 3 or more player game who is attacking who ? When the round starts another ? You said you can put down any number of black cards after the draft so the special abilities count twice then. Last ? I assume you have to draw back up to 4 cards or No and you just keep using the same cards
A better name may be Card Casters
"A pair of diaper person" 2:23
"dice per person"
I don't know if you're still reading but I love your games
It's amazing you come up with this, man. I wish I could do that XD !
that looks nice! i'll try it with my brother tomorrow!
Any relation to actual epic spell wars game? It's pretty good. URS too
Awesome game.
It would be cool if you added wizards and attacks.
I thought of naming them but got too lazy haha
What if i Play with 4 players? We fight 1v1 and 1v1 or we fight 2v2 or all vs all?
I imagine it can be 2v2 or have each player take turns choosing an opponent.
2 of hearts is a great 'insurance' card against rolling snake eyes :P
I really like the game and I wanna try to play it at some point
I have no friends to play with btw
So can you give me some instructions on how to play epic spell war to print out for me
So, the cards that stay at the table keep making effect on future action phases?
Or are they just lost resources?
Cool game, I am planning to play it soon. But i have a question, during the reaction/defense phase, is it necessary to use the buff cards? Like can I save them?
And also if I can save them how many moves can I do during the Defence phase? And what is the maximum amt of buff cards i can use during the action phase. Is it a must to use all black cards? Sorry if this is a lot of questions but i truly hope u can answer all of them. :)
You can use no cards or all 4 in any round. There are no limitations.
Good job!
i need subtitles in spanish
when we are more than 2, we choose who we attack? and when?
If there are more than two players, the very highest roll deals damage to the very lowest roll. For example, in a four player game, if the players rolled 12, 7, 4, and 2 only the 12 would be dealing damage, and only the 2 is taking damage. If multiple people roll the highest number, they all deal damage and if multiple people roll the lowest number, they all take damage.
You don't choose the damage target, all the lowest rollers take damage from you.
how would 3 or 4 player work?
+Graham Brunt At the bottom of the instructions, labeled "Variants", I discuss how to play 3 player and 4 player specifically. Three players is my personal favorite :)
I dont like to use dice so i made a different game: you remove 10, j, q, k, as to life, but the 32 remain are shufled all together. And 4 piles are made with 5 cards but all closed. The players catch the 4 card. Ande play all his blacks cards. The highest card wins. The clubs value is +1 off the card. So i played a 9of clubs and 2 of spades and the other played a 9 of spades and 8 of spades. I win becouse the 9 of clubs value like 10. And i have 1 spade card so i make 2 damage
But i cant have the cards back :/
The diamond could be the "save 1 card" so the next round you will have the 4 cards + the saved cards
Do a fortune telling tutorial
Could be a good game if you explained it better

Make a easy one.😠😠😠
well it's not that hard ;) there's instructions in the description box :)
there is a beginner version: you just pass out four random ability cards to each person and everyone would keep them face up. The cards would only activate if you rolled that number.
Poorly explaned
