I love how you explain things in laymen’s terms and actually demonstrate what you’re doing. I’m a visual learner and appreciate that extra step. Would love to see your favorite brushes and how they perform. I have some high-end brushes but also some inexpensive dupes. Can you let us know which ones you think are a close match but are more budget friendly? Thanks so much Lisa! xoxo
50 yrs old and finally I know what those numbers are for and the difference in brushes. I wish I would of been into makeup when I was younger. I really like how you do your makeup less is more and you look very elegant and classy. 🙏🏻
You take the intimidating factor out of using brushes. I took notes and am so ready to use your fabulous information. I come from a family of educators. Just because you know something well is no guarantee you can teach. You are both talented AND a stellar instructor! Thank you so much!!!
I’m stunned and amazed. Your videos are the first I’ve seen that actually address any of my makeup application questions. I have seen countless “tutorials” that amounted to little more than hours of staring at some nice lady putting her makeup on & learning little to nothing useful for the application of my own makeup. I always *knew* there had to be some rhyme or reason to how and where you hold the damn brush but no one ever talks about it! What little insight I’ve managed to gain in this regard has come from painting tutorials - until I found Lisa J.!! Where have you been my entire life?! I love you! Thank you!
You are really an excellent teacher. I find these videos so fascinating and informative. Thank you for going into all these topics on makeup tools and application. Love it!
You’re doing a great service with these videos. I recommend them to everyone. This one was very, very useful for most everyone. I thought I knew it already, but still learned the best methods from you. I predict terrific success for you w this series, and tremendous success w TH-cam in the future. You truly are one of the best; you have what it takes, Lisa, and I’m so proud to watch you grow. Here’s wishing you and your sweet family a Very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year, from a loyal fan in East Texas. 💖✨💖✨💖✨💖🎄🤠
You are amazing.. Sharing your tips and tricks which is actually very helpful and kind of you.. You are an actual makeup lover without any malice in heart. Love the way you illustrate everything so intensely 😘😘😘
MAC brushes will last a long time. I have some from my time as a MAC artist 2002-2003 that are in great condition. Taking care of brushes makes all the difference ✅
Lisa! Thank you so much for doing this. I know all of your viewers appreciate it. It’s obvious why you were a trainer; you’re a natural at delivering information so that people get it immediately.
I’ve been watching beauty TH-cam videos for YEARS now! I’ve always loved watching people create awesome beauty looks but never been able to translate that onto myself! So, I’ve always just stuck to simple/natural makeup looks. This video has educated me on the importance of brushes and how different brushes can effect the way the makeup applies and looks! Thanks you so much for this video! It really helped me!
Yes Lisa please do a follow up video on your favorite brushes. I still have my brushes from 2003 from MAC. They do last when u take care of them. Great video darling.
For quick brush cleaning between application, sometimes I’ll just Wet a cotton pad with micellar water and swirl the brush into the pad; but I have had some brushes for a decade; I definitely take care of them 😊 Love this series!! I’m watching them like it’s my full time job 👄💄🏆
Why am I just NOW discovering your channel?! I've always been a makeup junkie or up until my mid twenties at least. I stopped wearing makeup for several years due to different reasons(except bareminerls every once and awhile) I'm now 34 and got back into wearing makeup again about a year ago and couldn't believe HOW MUCH has changed and discovering and learning all the new items these brands have come up with...everything has become so damn technical lol and one of the biggest things is understanding all the brushes/beauty blender, knowing what they do and how to use them. So I'm very happy and appreciative I stumbled upon this video!
Awwm thank you!! I am so glad you found my channel! yes , so much has changed in the makeup world over the last several years. so many new great indie brands to try!
Thank you for this brush video! I've never seen anyone actually explain the difference in brushes as well as technique. This video was extremely helpful! I can't wait to try out all your tips!
I bought a 18 pc brush set online. It is not super quality, but does the trick so far. Thank you for giving the rationale behind the shape, pressure, density, etc. of each brush, so we can take that info to explore the shapes and sizes. Really appreciate learning something new after applying makeup on myself for the past 45 years!
Lisa, what a great video! And the series is getting better and better! Yes, please, do a follow up video on your favorite brushes. Your explanations (and visual examples... thank you) are so good! ♡♡♡
Lisa, thank you for doing this very informative video! You explain things very clearly! I appreciate your knowledge! I'm constantly learning about using makeup brushes! I used to ONLY use a sponge brush for eyeshadows so it was a game changer for me!! It takes time to learn how to use which means "practice, practice, practice! Love you sweet Lisa! Muah💋💋💋💋
Loved this Lisa!!! Saving it! Love the explanation of natural vs synthetic!! And the density and how it affects pigment! And!!! That’s so impressive how long you’ve had some brushes! I’m gonna wash more carefully!! Yes girl! I pressed my lid shade on while you were describing it and that worked so good!! Loved this and love you gorgeous girl!!😘😘😘
I am so thankful for these videos. I only got into makeup more towards the end of high school, even though everyone around me had been doing makeup since middle school. I was never very good at it and I never really understood how to do makeup because I never understood the fundamentals. These videos are so incredibly helpful and I've learned so much!! Thank you!!
Love this series. As an older woman, I can buy oroducts, but don't know the best way to apply. All of these teaching series are so wonderful for a great learning experience. Thank you for sharing.
Oh, Lisa! You are so good, so informative! Wow! Never knew this stuff before! Glad I recently found you! I'm a 62 year old who is finally taking an interest in makeup thanks to you!
Thank you so much for your thorough explanation of brushes. I too have had the same MAC brushes for over 15 years, and it's because I take good care of them. I find that using Fix Plus on a 252 brush is easier for me to apply shimmer to my lids. Will Fix Plus ruin a natural hair brush?
Great series. My first good brushes were from Mac. I bought them back in 1991 in Toronto. Back then they were real hair and made in France. All of them, the hair is like new. I have good care of them. One brush, handle’s paint started to break down. Great brushes
I love these videos, I have learned more than any others out there. I'm a 65 year old newbie. I never really worn much makeup in the corporate/technical world. I now can actually put eyeshadow on that looks great. Thanks
Thank you for sharing my sweet friend!! I would love to see a video on how you do lower lashline eyeliner on yourself. Whenever I do it, I wind up looking like a raccoon!! xoxo-Wendy, NYC
Fantastic! I've been a makeup junkie for 35 years (started young) and am just now understanding technique and tools - no TH-cam in the 80s! Love your video content - thanks so much for the info and love you bring! ❤️
Yes, teacher Lisa! I’d like to see more videos on your fav brushes & demonstrations, plz! ❤️ your tutorials; very informative, and I’m always learning something new. Ty for sharing, you’re the BEST! 🥰
You are doing such as service to so many of us, with your teaching, insights, and tricks & tips!! Where were you when I was buying all my brushes before this? Sure wish I’d seen this video a long time ago! Thanks for a great job, Lisa. Really love your videos! And your channel in general... I could listen to you all day!! ❤️
Very informative. One thing, I’ve been using the paddle brush, MAC 252 for powder eyeshadow for years and it works great. I have large eyelids and find the basic lid brush most commonly used takes more time than I want. Both options don’t blend well but I find my paddle brush works best putting on my lid color and deposits the amount of powder I prefer.
I am learning more by watching your channel than all the other TH-cam beauty/makeup gurus combined, and I have decades of makeup enthusiasm/wear behind me! THANK YOU! And your presentation is terrific! Have happily subscribed.
Lisa this is the most useful video to date - you broke it down in way that the tips and content are consumable - I wonder how many eye shadows and blushes I have tossed because the way it was applied was just dooming the product to failure! THANK YOU .
I LOVE THESE VIDEOS. I swear I've learned more in 3 of these than in all my years of watching TH-cam tutorials. This is fantastic information. I have around a 100+ good brushes and tomorrow I'm going to sort them differently in their glass containers. Putting on makeup will be so much more fun applying these principals. Thank you so much for being a GREAT teacher.
I think you’re doing a great job on explaining the different make up brushes. A couple of tips: 1. when you talk about a brush, write it up on the screen. “This is a powder brush. It’s good for…bullet point 1 bullet point 2 bullet point 3..”etc. People learn by watching and by reading. And they can make word associations. Powder brush…good for….2. if you’re going to show us the difference between brushes, can you point the head of the brush directly into the camera? Everyone always holds the brushes parallel to the camera instead of perpindicular and you all talk about the bristles, how dense they are, how soft (while fingers through the brush), and the curvature (or lack thereof) of the brush head itself. But we never get to see the top of the brush (or looking down at the top of the brush). 3. if you’re going to show us brushes, show it up against a dark back ground or light back ground. We can’t see the specifics of the brush. Even with my glasses on, it looks a little blurry. But otherwise, good presentation.
Wow Lisa. This was the best make up brush tutorial I’ve ever seen. As an artist, I totally understand how important brushes are for my painting, so this info was invaluable, and hopefully my makeup will look a lot better with yr tips. Many thanks
I just purchased the Sigma eye liner brush. Wow!!. What a game changer this is. It's just fabulous. My little wings have never looked better and just so easy. That's a big thank you.
It's fantastic that you're doing this series. So wish someone would of done this way back when, when I needed the tips. Yes please list your absolute favorite brushes! I'm a brush fanatic...can never have too many. Since I found you, I try to never miss any of your videos, & I recommend you to all. Wishing you & yours a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
I like how you explain things without having to much info and giving what's really necessary. I definitively would love a follow up video and also if you have suggestions on eye sets that are not super expensive but could be a great addition. Thanks!! 💙
Wish I had found these videos when they were first posted, but I only discovered you a few weeks ago. This information is priceless. I have the tools but now I know I haven't been using them correctly. Thank you!!!!
yes, please do a follow up video, also I wish to know your suggestions on what kind of brush is perfect to do the eye makeup so, it would be really kind of you to explain that in detail.
Yes please! How about doing a video on how to cover up boo boo’s on the face, whether it’s a pimple or mosquito bite or whatever. How do you deal with varying texture & color?
Yes please Lisa more on brushes and more on application to the eyes and dare I say how to for the oldies I’m 73 and what used to work doesn’t any more. Your videos are great all good no nonsense information please keep them coming.
Hi Lisa: I have watched 2 of the videos in this series (Mac secrets) and I am blown away with how much I have learned. (BTW, I have watched an easy 100 other videos, I just watch whatever is there when I open TH-cam). You really do break down the "whys" of certain techniques. LIke why you put the light shadow right in the front/middle of your eyelid to make your eyes bigger. I ordered the Mario light pencil to get that effect, and some new concealer (I think the stuff I was using was really old). So I am not only learning, from the ground up but following your guidance on products and really upping my game overall. The video I just watched on brushes was totally awesome; you answered 59 questions I didn't even know I had, and 41 more I did want to ask, I would love to see another video on brushes with you actually using them on a client. I have watched tons of good makeup and skin care videos, but you are the total bomb! You cover it all, with grace and beauty. ok, I will shut up now but please keep the videos coming and know that there are many women who do want to understand the whys, don't just say "do this" tell us why we are doing that, and when and why we should do it differently. I adore you videos, please don't ever stop. Thank you. Maggi Giraud
Very informational and understandable. Am beginning to understand brushes and this is great. Yes please continue brushes for Eyebrow, lip. highlighting, contour, blush...
I really like this series! All 3 videos so far have been informative and include great tips that anyone can implement into their beauty routine. I would definitely like to see a video about your favorite brushes and/or versatile brushes that can help you to achieve your desired look with just a handful. I personally am overwhelmed by brushes sometimes and it would be great to have the basics necessary simplified. Thank you for another great video and I am looking forward to more! Update - actually just found an older video about your favorite brushes and starter brushes - going to check it out now!
I’ve been binge watching your videos since I follow heynasreen on IG, and seen your videos recommended on my feed on TH-cam. Even though I’ve been doing my makeup forever, still have so much to learn. And I’ve learned so much from your videos!!! I appreciate so much your presence here on TH-cam!!! Also I’m 35, while still feel and look young, I have noticed I can’t apply makeup the same way I did like in my 20s...which explains why I’ve been in a rut the last 5 years! Your videos have also helped offer perspective. Please keep doing what you’re doing!!!
Lisa, Mac used to carry Prep + Prime Beauty Balm. A very moisturizing sheer product with SPF 35 and a hint of color. I loved it. They no longer carry it. I’m wondering if you have any recommendations for any similar products from any beauty line? Your videos are perfect! Easy to follow and always great stuff!!
I'd like to see another video on your fave brushes! Maybe also a few recommendations for brush sets? Buying individual brushes can be so much more expensive than a set! Thanks for another great video, glad you went beyond the MAC training manual and included what YOU thought was essential to know.
This is so good, Lisa! I knew most of this before, but had picked it up here and there. You put it all together in such a concise and understandable way - thank you!
Thank you Lisa..this was so great! Everything you said made total sense once you explained how brushes are designed. It seemed obvious after hearing you but I would not have figured it out on my own. You are a good teacher, I learned a lot! Thank you!
Best brush video yet! At time stamp 6:47 where you talk about powder foundation, what brush is the black handled brush? Morphe? I use powder foundation some and need a really good brush to apply it.
I love these videos! This one in particular was super helpful! I would love to see another brush video! What kinds of brushes are best for contouring with powder vs cream bronzers & blending them out? What kinds of brushes are good for highlighter? A smaller or bigger brush?
This was helpful. I would like to see a video where you do your makeup and when you are selecting your brush, explain what type of brush, what kind of look you want from it, and how to use the brush to apply that step(where to place it on the face and or eye)! I understand it would be a longer video, but it would be so helpful, and I'm sure a lot of us would be very grateful!!!!
I am still learning and this was soooo helpful! I would love a video on how to contour/hilight and bronze. Also could you please do a video on how to pick the perfect foundation for your skin and picking the right shade. I am fair skin and have a tough time picking the shade. I've wasted so much money on foundation for it to be too light.
Omg Lisa, you have NO idea how much this informative video has helped me! I have an ongoing struggle with finding the right brushes to do what I want to do and I end up getting frustrated and just using a beauty blender! Thank you so much and YES, PLEASE do more videos about brushes, your favorite ones, techniques, erc. That would be AWESOME! Thank you so much and have a very Merry Christmas! xoxo
Just finished watching this video and you asked what thoughts, questions if any, we had. Could you please do a complete tutorial using just your brushes....BK beauty. I just ordered them, cannot wait to get them and would love to see you using them. Thank you!
This was a FANTASTIC video, and a great tutorial because you went into detail about hand placement, pressure / movement of the brush and the result that it'll achieve. This is really a must-see for anyone getting into makeup; a great vid for actors who need to know how to do own makeup. Can't wait to see more of your work, and your favorite brush vid. Thank you so very much for your time, talent and enthusiasm! I feel like I can't say thank you enough for sharing your wisdom!
Yes Lisa, please so a more in depth favorite brushes video with why's and tips and tricks. Your knowledge is so vast and helpful. Thank you for this series !!! Much Love from the Deep South .....
Wow! I'm a college professor (English) and if there were courses in makeup/brush theory I would recommend you in a heartbeat!
Wow! Thank you so much! :)
Loved this class😍Thank you❣️
I love how you explain things in laymen’s terms and actually demonstrate what you’re doing. I’m a visual learner and appreciate that extra step. Would love to see your favorite brushes and how they perform. I have some high-end brushes but also some inexpensive dupes. Can you let us know which ones you think are a close match but are more budget friendly? Thanks so much Lisa! xoxo
Hey Susan! Currently testing a bunch right now and will update you all when I make a video! Thanks!
Lisa J Awesome! Thank you doll 😘
Susan B which Morphe powder brush Lisa shown in this video for powder foundation ? Can you plzz share this.
50 yrs old and finally I know what those numbers are for and the difference in brushes. I wish I would of been into makeup when I was younger. I really like how you do your makeup less is more and you look very elegant and classy. 🙏🏻
Absolutely love the MAC training secrets. You're a great teacher; keep teaching. There's nothing else quite like it on youtube.
You take the intimidating factor out of using brushes. I took notes and am so ready to use your fabulous information. I come from a family of educators. Just because you know something well is no guarantee you can teach. You are both talented AND a stellar instructor! Thank you so much!!!
Would you do a top 10 MAC product. Would love to see your recommendations. Thank you.
Do you know, Marina, if LisaJ did this video you requested?

You are amazing.. Sharing your tips and tricks which is actually very helpful and kind of you.. You are an actual makeup lover without any malice in heart. Love the way you illustrate everything so intensely 😘😘😘
agreed.
Liz Miller ... wow, i am a Liz Millner! Love Lisa as well...so well beyond her years.
Awww how kind! Thank you Julie!
What are your thoughts on applying foundation with a beauty blender v brush. Great tutorial btw x
I’ve been watching beauty TH-cam videos for YEARS now! I’ve always loved watching people create awesome beauty looks but never been able to translate that onto myself! Hi Stephanie! I'm so glad you found this video helpful. I love creating simple, natural looks and I am glad I can help you do the same :) xoxo
Yes please, more fav brushes. Do You know of any brushes that would be considered dups for the higher end brushes?
Karren Chris I just asked Lisa basically the same question lol. Inquiring minds want to know 😉
Hey ladies! Currently testing a bunch of brushes and adding it to my list of a brush video to make with different price points! Hope that helps!
I've been using the real technique brushes and they are great... Also.. Essence and catrice come seasonally with brushes and the quality is amazing
Bh cosmetics best bang for your buck their sets are actually good quality and usually 20 or less for a whole set.
This is such useful information. I see a lot of TH-camrs talking about which brushes they use, but not why. Great stuff.
Yes Lisa please do a follow up video on your favorite brushes. I still have my brushes from 2003 from MAC. They do last when u take care of them. Great video darling.
Thanks Felicia!
KamaroPayne - I love micellar water for quick brush cleaning!
Tara1978Tara YES!! Been trying out the Koh Gen Do spa water for makeup removal, but it doesn’t seem any more magical than regular micellar water 😕
Great tutorial, I would like help with the outer v shadow application. I usually have difficulty getting this application right. Thanks Lisa.
Thanks Sheila!
Me too! Just can’t get it right.

Love this video! Brushes are so confusing to me. I have some basic knowledge, but this really cleared things up. Thank you!
Glad to hear! Thanks Stephanie!
Oh, Lisa! You are so good, so informative! Wow! Never knew this stuff before! Glad I recently found you! I'm a 62 year old who is finally taking an interest in makeup thanks to you!

No you can spray a little fix+ to your brush even it is natural hair... Wash with a gentle soap even baby shampoo
Great series. My first good brushes were from Mac. I bought them back in 1991 in Toronto. Back then they were real hair and made in France. All of them, the hair is like new. I have good care of them. One brush, handle’s paint started to break down. Great brushes
Yes! My MAC brushes have held up over 10 years, take care of them and good brushes should last many years!
Wow, I really love these videos you explain things so good. Thanks
Thanks Debbie! :)

Great suggestion! Thanks Wendy!
Oh man me too. I don’t even do lower lash shadow or liner for that reason. I also have small, almond shaped eyes, I feel like it makes me look older.
Fantastic! I've been a makeup junkie for 35 years (started young) and am just now understanding technique and tools - no TH-cam in the 80s! Love your video content - thanks so much for the info and love you bring! ❤️
Wow, that is awesome! Thank you so much! :)

Lisa this is the most useful video to date - you broke it down in way that the tips and content are consumable - I wonder how many eye shadows and blushes I have tossed because the way it was applied was just dooming the product to failure! THANK YOU .
So happy to hear that! Thanks Martha!
Wow - mind blown. Great comprehensive tutorial on brushes, their uses and applications. I would like to see your favorites.
Thank you so much Cindy! :)
wow, super helpful tutorial. I just discovered you through 50 plus beauty and am now binge watching your videos. You are a born teacher! Subscribed!

Aww, Bonnie this comment made my day! thank you!
So much great helpful info in one video! The illustration on your arm using two different brushes with the same color shadow was a game changer!
Oh I am so glad it was helpful!
Thanx LISA... i always felt so confused with the brushes.. this was really a great help in deciding which brush to use when.. great job
Thank you! I am glad it was helpful!
So happy that your channel keeps growing! You're not sounding over complicated or confusing at all. Great video as usual.
Thank you so much Cheryl! :)

Many thanks
Thank you so much Tracey! :)
Wow. Just wow. I wish I had this brush tutorial in high school. Such invaluable information. Thank you!!
FANtastic video! I especially loved how you demonstrated with swatches while you explained. Perfect for us visual learners!!
Thanks Linz!
I just purchased the Sigma eye liner brush. Wow!!. What a game changer this is. It's just fabulous. My little wings have never looked better and just so easy.
That's a big thank you.
So happy to hear that! Thank you so much Nancy!
So helpful. Saved to watch again later. I’m 52 but new to actually needing makeup and needing good application skills. Again, so helpful ❤️
Thank you Amy! xoxo
Awww thank you Cheryl! Hope you have a wonderful Christmas as well!
I like how you explain things without having to much info and giving what's really necessary. I definitively would love a follow up video and also if you have suggestions on eye sets that are not super expensive but could be a great addition. Thanks!! 💙
Great! Thank you so much! :)
Thank you so much! :)
Thank you for info on brushes, Lisa. I would appreciate seeing your favorite brushes. Enjoy all your tutorials.
Thank you so much!
Fabulous Job
You are answering Questions that I have never seen other Influencers share.
I’m usually just a lurker and don’t speak up, but this was a FABULOUS video. So incredibly helpful! Thank you!
Awww thanks Lesli!
Very informational and understandable. Am beginning to understand brushes and this is great.
Yes please continue brushes for Eyebrow, lip. highlighting, contour, blush...
Thank you so much!
Yes please! Brush vid! Also interested in what you get for the money as you move up the money scale.
Thank you!
This is amazing,I love to see different brushes wow same color different styles I’m impressed 🥰
Wow! Great video! I’m loving this series!
Thank you Jennifer!
Thank you! When I did a make up course (forever ago) they never really explained WHY brushes work a certain way!
Wonderful video. Used to teach this to my BeautiControl consultants. I appreciate your clarity.
Thank you Debra!
Excellent presentation! You are such a professional and a great instructor! You are the only one that I recommended for the Sephora squad.
Great! Thank you so much Jolene and so happy you enjoyed it!
Oh my God I learned so much WoW I've been used in all the wrong brushes you really opened my eyes I want to learn so much more from you
Yes I’d love to see your favourite brushes with your explanation of why.
Thank you! :)
I am so glad they are helpful! Thank you for watching! :)
Yes, please, film your favorite brushes video!
Thanks Kat!
Thank you so much! xoxo
Specific uses for your must have brushes? Yes, yes, yes!
Thanks Cindy!
This is so good, Lisa! I knew most of this before, but had picked it up here and there. You put it all together in such a concise and understandable way - thank you!
Awww thank you Ita! :)
Thank you Lisa..this was so great! Everything you said made total sense once you explained how brushes are designed. It seemed obvious after hearing you but I would not have figured it out on my own. You are a good teacher, I learned a lot! Thank you!
So glad to hear! Thank you so much Beth! :)
Can foundation brushes be used for tinted moisturizers? Or would a beauty blender work?
So helpful! I have always heard from artists friends, that the brush and technique are key to the final result, and I see why after your video. Thanks
Thanks Kim! I am glad it was helpful!
Loving this series and learning so much, you explain things so well which makes it easy for us to understand. Would love to see your fav's.
Awww thank you Elizabeth!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE INFO!! Please do a part two video for more info. I never knew any of this. Now my makeup will look better😍
Yay! I am so glad it was helpful!
Great suggestion! Thanks Karen! :)
This is a pro tip. You make it brief and so helpful. Not gonna get any knowledge quite like this in most of textbooks.
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much and have a very Merry Christmas! xoxo
Thank you so much! Have a Merry Christmas as well! :)
Just finished watching this video and you asked what thoughts, questions if any, we had. Could you please do a complete tutorial using just your brushes....BK beauty. I just ordered them, cannot wait to get them and would love to see you using them. Thank you!
Once again, You hit it OUT OF THE PARK!! Fabulous video!! So knowledgable!!!! xoxo
Aww, thanks lady!!! xoxox
Aww, thank you so much!! This means a lot! I appreciate it!
Lisa it’s like I’m going to beauty school. It’s so nice omg.... we can learn so much from the master.
Aww, thank you Tamara!!! This is so sweet! I am so glad this was helpful xoxo
