Love you to check out the South Pacific island countries uniforms. FYI, The Tongan Royal Corps uniform is similar to the Hawaiian Ceremonies Guards but in a different color!
1:00 The foot coverings are called spats (in case you didn't know). They were really popular around 100 years ago to protect shoes from the weather and prevent mud from getting inside the shoes. The dress boot later replaced that function, but they're still used in the US Navy Ceremonial Guard. I only know about these because I sometimes have to wear them when I play traditional New Orleans jazz from the early 20th century. Some bandleaders prefer period dress for the gig.
Please, it would be great if you could rate historic uniforms from the 19th century, Napoleonic wars and Victorian era (In my opinion, the golden age of the uniform)
Re: Hawaii… At different times in its history, from Captain Cook to becoming a US state in 1959, the islands were “claimed” by the British, French and US, among others. This is why there are influences such as the pith helmet in the uniform. Hawaiian kings and queens adopted the clothing of English monarchies. You can see that “colonial history” in the Hawaii state flag, which is influenced by the Union Jack, France’s flag and US flag. Oh, and, yes, I’ve had the pleasure of living in Hawaii. Thank you, Antonio, for all of the amazing content.
As Thai, I'd say that I'm kinda agree with you. Also, aside from Thai military uniform, (there're currently 15 color schemes), I'd say that Thailand have a uniform for pretty much everything and everyone. In here, students have to wear a uniforms from school to college, civil/government employee also got their own (which you could have easily mistaken from military uniforms because they looks very similar, they even wear an insignia to identify their level of professions similar to military ranks), teachers, politicians, taxi drivers, and even some business owners got their uniforms. I'd say that some of them are either outdated or uncomfortable. Some unit of Thai military which I used to be in still using Vietnam war era uniforms, college ceremonial uniforms also uncomfortable to wear, we're tropical country with sweltering heat yet we got to wear a thick high-collar uniforms with graduation gown over it in sunlight without AC, never been a big fans.
I'm from Malaysia, "Baju Melayu" means "Malay Shirt" in Malay language and the right way to pronounce it for westeners is by pronouncing it in French accents ..I hope 😀
While it's hard to find photos of, I always remember seeing an ANZAC uniform with shorts and a short sleeve shirt. I just appreciate how honest and practical it seems, for the hot and humid climates the diggers were often in
9:53 as a moroccan the cape covering the solider from frozen and cold. As it's a part of the moroccan traditional outfit, wearing the cape is showing how important / wealthy you are, but let's not forget that it important the reason it was made is the cover the body from cold and keep the person warm.
My mother is from Thailand. It‘s been a while since I‘ve been there, always saw the brown or the white uniform. Nice to know, that they are using much more colours. Thank you Antonio! 🙂👍🏽 🇹🇭🍀
Look at the Batallón Guardia Presidencial (Presidencial Guard Batallion) from Colombia. Specially their everyday day uniform. The blue one. The looks of that earley XX or even before style in contrast with modern weapons. It's pretty cool.
At the Queen's funeral, there were many examples of British uniforms dating back to Henry VIII time - it would be great to hear you do a session going through the uniforms and your favourite (the Scottish archers get my thumbs up!!)
You should really look in to the Swedish royal guards or Livbataljonen They have a great variety of ceremonial uniforms, some more extravagant then others.
Uniforms aside, I think one of the coolest things about the Thai Royal Guards is that their official march (the “Royal Guards March”) was composed specifically for them by the previous king himself.
Antonio, next video on military uniforms, i hope you can cover these: - Taiwan honor guards (each branch) - Spain’s Guardia Real (Royal Guards) - Spain’s Guardia Civil (Civil Guards) - Spain’s Regulares - Italy’s Corazzieri - Denmark’s Royal Life Guards - Norway’s Royal Guard (Hans Majestet Kongens Garde) - Sweden’s Royal Life Guards - Netherland’s Royal Marechaussee - Netherland’s Royal Guards (Garderegiment Grenadiers en Jagers & Garderegiment Fuseliers Prinses Irene)
Also maybe Samarinese Guards/ Armed Forces? They use Dark Blue with Orange linings. It's cool. Maybe do the craziest military headwear with it lol, add the Norwegian Royal Guard in it. 🤣
Hey, I recently found your channel and I think your content and guidance is brilliant. I'm in the Royal Navy and styling my hair with a hairdryer isn't very practical in the mornings because of limited living space and noise as I wouldn't want to wake any of my shipmates who may have been on a night watch. So I was wondering if you could possibly make a video about hairstyling for a military guy. Our rules on hair styles are much less restrictive that the 4 styles of our US cousins.
As a Greek I dont like the uniform of our representative guards - the "Tsoliades". It is a great honour to be part of that force. They are the most respected guys in the military and with the civilian population. School kids want to become like them. But I dont know, I dont like the puffs on the shoes, I dont like the tights, I dont like the skirt, I dont like the hats...There is nothing on that uniform I like. I know its tradition, and meaning, but I wouldnt want to wear this.
Loving the tour of the world uniforms here. I would like to request your thoughts on the RAF No1 uniform, something I'll be wearing on Remembrance day this year.
Yay! I didn't expect to see the cadets' uniform here! Mexico City has a hot sun but the city is often cooled by the wind. The temperatue varies between 71 F to 80 F. :)
4:00 - DRAGOON. A member of a mounted military force whose name is derived from a firearm called a 'dragon'. POINT OF INTEREST: Knowing the 'history' of how older military forces were named will help you understand how little was thought of the active soldier by the generals who deployed him. Check out the names of older fighting regiments particularly the British Army. You’ll discover they're predominately named after a particular weapon. Historically, warring nations' military advisors engaged on the battlefield,' by deploying specific weapons, in a specific location, to achieve a specific objective, all part of a larger strategy. Through the eyes of the generals , regular soldiers were not people, they were simply trained weapon carriers/operators. e.g. A general believing there was a benefit to be gained by relying more on bombs rather than infantry gunfire to push an enemy line back, would deploy either 'bombardiers' or 'grenadiers' not ‘musketeers’. Other military forces by name and associated 'weaponry' include... Fusiliers & fusil (musket), Lancers & lance (spear), Carabinier & carbine (musket), Hussar (cavalryman) & horse. Even in modern-era warfare, soldiers are looked upon as equipment. As early as the 1930s, G.I. is purported to mean General Issue (army equipment).. Unfortunately, until wars cease or robots replace soldiers, thousands of bodies will continue to be deployed to carry and operate weapons.
Surprisd to see the SAF here! As one who recently finished his enlistment, it was nice to wear the No1, though only got to wear it once because of COVID and other circumstances. Not sure if it was obvious but only officers carry swords. At 3:55 the shoulder tabs have a white square because they're cadets
Dragoon: Mounted Infantry. Basically the US Calvary from 1840's and 1850'S to Mechanize. What you would see and expect in the "Old West" movies, of them 'fighting' First Nation people on their ancestors land.
@6:41 the Royal Guards of Hawaii is a unit that was activated to preserve the history of the Kingdom of Hawaii by reenacting the former Royal Guards of the late Hawaiian monarchy.
For over-the-top uniforms, check out the short video Wag the Dog "303", lol. And you won't be able to listen to their unit song without a tear in your eye. Check it out!
My dear Antonio, Correction on that Mexico City colegio militar uniform. I grew up 1/2 a block away from the this "Mexican West Point",,, and I used to of becoming one of these officers. Well, the and the stripes and trim on the uniform are actually a burgundy color. I know because I used to go there and hang out with my friend whose dad was a captain at this institution. Thank you for showing this. Great content!
For a top 5 ugliest uniforms video: German Bundeswehr 'Dienstanzug'. They don't even get the color consistent; just look up '50 shades of grey Bundeswehr'. Every soldier I know dislikes that uniform and avoids wearing it as good as possible. I look good in it though :)
You need to do deeper research on the Pith Helmet. It has its origins in the Philippines' Salakot which is why it's part of the Philippine Honor Guard's Rayo uniform which you should check.
A sidenote : The ,Knechtharnische' / Landsknecht style footmens armour are today often no more traditional steel, but the current helmets are of plastic. May be ten to fifteen years ago in a german arms magazine ( i am german, Britta is my girlfriend) there was a small aricle, that Vatican ordered a larger number of short swords for Swiss Guard in Germany, but not from remaining sword companies ( WKC or Eickhorn), but from a german company, specialiced in producing things , necessary for Holy Mess in Catholic Church. This company only produced the ordered number of swords, nothing for museums or collectors.
Thank you for featuring my country (Singapore) and my culture (Malay). Please allow me to correct the pronunciation at point 8:01 It's bar-joo mur-la-yoo. BTW, Singapore and Malaysia has somewhat the same culture and food. We are very competitive siblings lol.
Greetings Antonio. I may suggest you take a look at the uniforms of the Danish Royal Life Guard. They have their standard uniform for actual combat usage and then their guard and parade uniform. Their everyday guard uniform is blue and black with a bearskin cap. Their gala uniform for special occasions like the Queen's birthday is a mix of red and black, with a bearskin cap. Best regards.
My apologies for the typos,,,oh no ,,I meant the trim on the uniform,,,, and I used to dream of becoming a cadet in Mexico City's prestigious Colegio Militar.
Mexico City is most of the time cool, spring is cold and summer has an average temperature of 25 ºC, when they rise 30 ºC is hot for them, I live in the border of NL and Texas, this place is really hot. Kind regards
@16:16 i guess monarchies in different cultures (particularly with different religions) are viewed differently. In Christian nations such as in Europe and the UK, the monarch is viewed as an agent of God so he is only a representative of God where as in buddhist asian countries such as Thailand or even Cambodia, the monarch is viewed AS God (or an incarnation of it), so asian countries with monarchs tend to be tolerant of their monarch having full autocratic power in the country which in western cultures would be viewed as backwards & feudal.
Hey, I like your channel and content, can you check out Russian Imperial Uniforms from the late 19th century early 20th century? I think they are very beautiful.

... Dragoon = mounted infantry...
...they would ride to the battle, dismount and and fight as infantry...
I love when you do military uniform videos Antonio
Love you to check out the South Pacific island countries uniforms. FYI, The Tongan Royal Corps uniform is similar to the Hawaiian Ceremonies Guards but in a different color!
You will also find countries in the South Pacific where male skirts are common. It’s part of the cultural attire.

Those Mongolian uniforms are awesome! Though keeping with the 13th century look you would think that they would be a mounted unit.

Subscriber from Thailand! Appreciate you mentioning my country. Great video as always.
Uniforms aside, I think one of the coolest things about the Thai Royal Guards is that their official march (the “Royal Guards March”) was composed specifically for them by the previous king himself.
This is a great idea; -- a good production, well presented!

The rifles used by the Mexican cadets are the Mauser Model 1936 (7mm caliber) or Model 1954 (.30-06 caliber).
Also maybe Samarinese Guards/ Armed Forces? They use Dark Blue with Orange linings. It's cool. Maybe do the craziest military headwear with it lol, add the Norwegian Royal Guard in it. 🤣
The argentinian granaderos, who guard the presidential house and the tomb of Gral. San Martín. They are sooo cool.

Chile has a nice military uniform. It's based on the WW2 German military.

11:55 This was not just a hiding place for the knife... They would run and kick their opponents with that knife.
It's so interesting how the Indian and Pakistani guards march. I haven't seen anything quite like it except for the Greek presidential guards.
Hey, I love your contents! I’m from Italy have you considered something specific about that country?
You need to do deeper research on the Pith Helmet. It has its origins in the Philippines' Salakot which is why it's part of the Philippine Honor Guard's Rayo uniform which you should check.
Where is the Wooly Pully and All-Weather Coat?!?!? 😂
Hey checkout the MARCOS uniform from India it's pretty badass 😌
Lmao scrolling by in my recommended i did not notice this was Antonio's video because they photoshopped the purple uniform over him 😂
The uniforms with the slashed arms worn by the Vatican Swiss Guard were designed by Michelangelo and have not changed since then.

Dragoons in American usage were horse-mounted soldiers who dismounted to fight.

Maybe the Philippine marine corps uniform? It's very close to the US marines that you like.
Spats are the part the go over the indian guards boots.
You should talk about the uniforms of the US service academies
Who is still waiting for the samurais video he mentioned months ago 😂
Personally for some reason i really like the national guards uniform of Bulgaria.
Fijian sandals - the sandals are their dress shoe, and working in the fields shoe, and going to church shoe.
To be fair, who would look at your toes for a knife? It's not exactly a common place you'd pat down someone in a body search.
