I love that the director and her co-writer saw the film as an opportunity for satire and that the author of the book realized him suppressing his gayness was a big part of what created Bateman after watching the film.
I’m glad to hear someone acknowledging that being ugly is my fault. I didn’t graduate with honours from Ugly University for someone to attribute how hideous I am to genetics or changing fashions.
A lot of people will try to blame your visage on your parents, and that just unfairly takes away from all the work you've put into making you the worst version of yourself.
Right? It is OUR FAULT, not advertisers, Beauty companies that profit off of our insecurity, Or influencers doing the same. It is our unfortunate choice and responsibility. And the sooner we admit our problem, The sooner we can try to fix it. We can't really fix it because we're ugly, Obviously. But we can try and try again. Right, ladies?
It's not great, but try to keep in mind that the consumer waste we create is *not* what is killing the planet. Mammoth companies that dump endless waste into our oceans are the problem. And no, they're not just supplying to our demand. They're cutting corners in every way to maximize their profits and doom all us little people in the process. Fight the real enemy.
body neutrality needs to become a huge thing we gotta get people okay with just looking like people again. like no i'm not going to buy a billion products just to undo all the effects of being alive i'm going to do the things that make me happy without thinking about if my favorite food will make me fat or if laughing with my friends will give me wrinkles! try it!!!
“we gotta get people okay with just looking like people again. like no i’m not going to buy a billion products just to undo the effects of being alive” perfectly said.
I agree for most part, but food is disgustingly addictive nowadays For people that cant remember the context 3 comments down here is what im replying to mostly "... without thinking about if my favorite food will make me fat ..."
yeah, none of this shit is scientifically supported. to contrast, sleep is. it's been repeatedly borne out in studies that healthy sleep translates to health throughout the body. so continue prioritizing sleep.
well good sleep is not just about looks either, having a bad sleep cycle could lead to other health issues and shorten your life span. Either too much sleep or too little. so find a balance
I'm a doctor, all the claims she made made me cringe so hard, they really are throwing bs data and "studies" and the worst part is people actually believe them 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Reminds me of people insisting that others have low blood pH and then tell them to eat certain things. If the pH in your blood is actually off, you either very quickly get to a hospital or you'll just be dead. Same with "detoxification". Either your organs work properly to detoxify you or the don't and you will die extremely quickly. No juice diet will help you then.
The “I put it over my liver to support detoxification” line at 3:38 was wild. Everything that person said was insane. I haven’t even finished watching the video yet, but that was so bonkers I had to pause to talk about it.
Castor oil does help ovarian cysts & some say it helped them pass like kidney stones and stuff. Idk why, there just hasn’t been much research bc who cares about women’s health lol.
I feel really bad for that one guy in all the examples. Imagine your just a teen and one of your friends takes a side view picture of you and suddenly your the example for the "ugly mouth breather" like wtf?
and ngl i’ve always thought he looked nice. all the more proof that it’s useless to try to appeal to some imaginary standard when there are all kinds of people who will think you’re pretty just the way you are
I kept thinking he was Micheal cera. (I'm very face blind I know.) but like. Isn't he always getting mad women in his movies? Like. People think he's attractive right?
@@ambersmith2612 ik the trope and like. Yeah I get they are paid actors. But also I know so many people who are attracted to him (I'm also asexual so I'm hella lost and confused on this stuff idk both the table guy and Micheal cera look fine to me I just thought it was funny)
7:15 For real. As a person whose nose looks like the red woman’s, all I could think of was "the hell is wrong with my nose? I did not choose to be born like that." instead of the actual topic of the video. It is so tiring seeing this stuff online 24/7, basically putting the blame on us for being against the current beauty standards. Like yeah my bad it’s my fault for being born and also not getting surgery. Anyway. Thanks for speaking up.
Wait until you hit Menopause age, when you’re bombarded with every damn product that’s supposed to make you look 35 again. It’s so tiring. Just let us live dang it! I’m tired of all this consumerism.
Its not about the nose, this one has been proven scientifically. If when you were a kid and even know if you keep breathing by the mouse its will affect your nose and your jaw, which is detrimental, especially when you become old, its will be hard to breath or eat. If you have this condition (jaw going far in back) a reconstructive jaw surgery is recommanded. The surgery will push fron your lower jaw and youll also ahve to wear braces etc for a while.
It also feels a little antisemitic to me, since a lot of Jews (including people in my family) have hooked noses, which is often exaggerated in antisemitic depictions
@@EerieEclipse25 yeah the way the image was used was a straight up antisemitic depiction lol, like, that video is basically a degree away from saying "you don't want to look like a jew, do you?"
I have studied advertising for many years, and I'm gonna hold your hand as I say this: If you wear these things while sleeping, the advertisers who made you buy them are laughing their asses off at you.
@@siobhanjune yeah very true, it just helps illustrate the full scale of the cynicism at play. It's literally just "pick a target audience at random, invent a problem for them, and then pretend to solve it". Sometimes it's even "take some leftover factory junk and invent a purpose for it", and they literally teach classes on this lmao
@@aenirrinea523 i mean, i think the most succeptible people to advertising are either very young and looking up to their favourite content creators (who are trash), older and bombarded with youth cult rhetoric their entire lives which has turned into insecurities, or anywhere in between, trying to compete and keep up with people who are successful in ways we attribute to "because of looks" though there have always been MANY other factors at play. and i know this may sound like "so, everyone" but trust me, it's not everyone, and giving less of a fuck about what people around you say and running it by like 10 internal filters which ask you WHY you feel that way, and WHERE those thoughts/feelings came from can help stay true to what you TRULY want to do, and outside the every changing trend-norms which are absolutely evil and destructive.
Overcomsumption and companies trying to monetize off people's insecurities is getting so much worse lately. Tiktok has such a weird way of creating insecurities for the most obscure things, and then companies and influencers try and make money off that.
What do we do :( I don't use social media except for YT and stuff like this spreads into the real world through people I know so easy. So even if you have never seen the internet phrenology you get made to feel bad or lesser without knowing why.
I was send a video on how to “fix” nails that flare outwards. My nails do. I had never thought of it as a problem for the 35 years of my life but suddenly it became one. At least I’m old enough and I’ve been through enough fashion cycles to say fuck this.
Nah its just more noticeable with the internet. Models used drvgs to get thinner, trimspa, diet pills, diet drinks, etc. Diet and beauty culture has been around even before Victorian era. People used to put lead on their skin for beauty.
Sadly this isn't just tiktok anymore. It's spread to every single thing we consume online now. I only use YT for vids (w/premium cause fk their ads), and Snap for friend texting; Even then, they're still monetizing absolutely everything both inside and out of Social Media. Nothing is safe anymore, so everyone's beating each other to "the next best thing", in hopes of making the most amount of money off of you. The quality of the world has gone to shit and it's made me so severely depressed that it's not even funny. Welcome to Earth y'all, where the only thing that matters anymore is money. :D
Not that I would have complained, but I feel like it could be a sensitivity thing. Even though "You will never be pretty enough" is a very accurate title, it could be viewed as her telling people that which could be viewed as harmful to people with dysmorphia related to beauty. Sorta like how a video title like "You will never be skinny enough" could be unpleasant for people with eating disorders.
Anytime i see those morning shed things, it reminds me of some girl posted her before the shed saying something like "if you cant love me with my (list of beauty tools) and someone replied "Girl you dont love you, worry about that first!"
All this stuff reminds me of that one tumblr post that goes "all those green juice 3 hour skincare pilates girlies on tiktok are closer to being patrick bateman than any sigma male productivity bro" and now they're quite literally shedding their skin like that scene of american psycho too 😭😭
Eh. They're basically both pretty similar. The emotionless, grind-hustle, "stay focused brothers" dudes are pretty reminiscent of Patrick Bateman. At least pilates girlies aren't promoting misogyny.
@@ellatizzy9726I would argue if the standard for femininity is constant pilates and 3 hour skin care routines and a strict diet, they ARE in fact promoting misogyny. Perhaps not the direct hatred of women, but definitely the apparatus that keeps women oppressed.
@@bunworuHey. Elder goth here. No it’s not, but people *are* allowed to hyperbolically say ‘(descriptor)(name)’ to give a certain vibe as shorthand. Tumblr has been doing similar since 2007. It’s all good, language can evolve. Most goths (/metalheads, ravers, lolitas, cosplayers, punks, queens, whatever the fuck) don’t wear full regalia 24/7 anyways. No shade to you, I get the frustration of being mislabeled, and it can be cringe to see other people go through the awkward stages of figuring out their style while not quite getting it, and being reminded of our own awkward stages, but it’s not that deep, and in this specific context I don’t think that’s what op meant 😊
8:13 it also sucks because not only are they saying ‘you’re ugly and it’s your fault just breathe through your nose’ but also some people can’t breathe properly/at all from their nose, and have to breathe through their mouth
Exactly !! I literally don’t know how people can only breathe through their nose. Do they know that snot exists and can clog your nose anytime at night ? Also I got a bike accident which broke my nose. So now my nose is a bit out of shape, so breathing through my nose is harder when I sleep on my left. I love my nose, but I won’t ever trust it for my night sleep
If this is you, it may be worth talking to a doctor about surgery options! Nose breathing isn't just a looks thing, it's important for overall health because the nose filters air pollutants and regulates your air intake speed
@@kimdavis2433 thanks for the concern, but I’ve actually already talked to my orthodontist about it :) my family and I are considering having me get jaw surgery when I turn 18 since I have a 15mm overbite and struggle to breathe from my nose
being a masculine lesbian has given me a weird relationship with beauty. like i fully know i'm ugly, but i also think i'm hot as fuck to a very specific type of queer woman. girls love me for my weirdly big eyes and acne. girls love me for my unconventional haircut and eyebags and big eyebrows and soft jawline. i look like a bug and by god the women at the club are interested in studying me
It ain't just the ladies either! Many folks in-between and far out, folks are obsessed with the unique within the basics of humanity. What other may consider "ugly" others find breath taking! Personally butches and studs make me swoon and feel faint lol
do they not know that taping your mouth while you sleep is dangerous 😭? can we please not have accidental deaths because of something that really won't make a difference?
saw someone use mouth tape on really young kids and all I could think, is if their nose snotted up, would they wake fast enough to get the tape off before they suffocated.
You went hard for the night routine sketch, the pain of putting all that on, then wearing it, then taking it off. A true artist dedicated to her work. Instant like and subscribe.
These TikTok trends fail to take into account the amount of single use plastics that is being used for each and every single day for these routines!!! There’s just so much wastage.
And only for them to feel good because this stuff probably doesn't do anything at all. It's horrible. There are like two types of "trends" online, at least as far is I can see, and one is overconsumption to the max, not giving a damn about anything every except for looks and short term fun and the other is underconsumption to the max, making people feel like climate change is their personal failure. I don't really like either of these trends. Why did we forgot that often, there is a "golden middle line" where you don't do way too much but you're also realistic in how much more change you are really causing by doing this much less.
I switched my face cleansing routine (five steps because of acne) to Paula’s choice because they take the empties back and I don’t have to throw them away. I think they actually recycle them but at least it’s not me throwing them away
i think its sad so many people buy this crap even tho there is literally NO EVIDENCE showing that it does anything. like they have no common sense to at least do some research beforehand
@@potatopouf I would be intrigued to know how many people actually do this kind of thing as a routine after watching these tiktoks cause for something that's such a faff and likely affects your sleep a lot I certainly wouldn't be doing it unless there was proof it did miracles. Are other people really so different or are these tiktoks just getting attention because of how ridiculous they are?
it's insane, i have depression, turns out the solution is to NOT FUCKING BREATHE?! like, i considered it three years back and that was a problem but now that's what im supposed to do?
I made the decision a while ago to just be ugly and it's genuinely been so freeing. Stopped wearing makeup, stopped shaving, skincare is limited to things that actually prevent discomfort like lotion for my very dry skin, I got a mullet because it's the style I like on me and it's easier to maintain. I stopped dressing like a pastor's daughter and leaned into the alt style that I always wanted but never thought I could "pull off". I get more compliments when I look like me than I do when I try to look like a hot person. I really think we've reached peak beauty ridiculousness and the "fuck it" revolution is coming.
you go girl! (genderneutral) same here, except I do get more compliments when I put on makeup... not gonna stop me from not giving a fuck about wearing it tho xD
There is no way people: 1. Actually thought mouth patches would work 2. Did not immediately think, "That sounds extremely dangerous" 3. Did not look it up on Google
yes the beuty and self help tiktok (and other social media comunities) is extremely close and often times based on the racism groups or their philosofies. there is a lot of overlap.
My therapist told me that I hold myself to impossibly high standards while giving compassion and grace to everyone else. I've started trying to remind myself that I don't notice when other people aren't wearing makeup or they have acne so most people probably don't notice them on me either. It was kind of eye opening for me. IK its probably super obvious but I've hated myself as long as I can remember and kind of assumed everyone thought I was disgusting and any nice comments were out of pity or obligation.
Come work with me as a clerk, your standards about beauty and life will change. Soooo many different people passing by, weither tall, small, average, ugly, beautiful, passable, clean, dirty, blonde, dark haired, and the list goes on forever! And ever!
It's hard to recognize the beauty in yourself that it's easy to see in others, but it's important to try!! I struggle with this as well, but then I reflect on what I think about the people I love, and even the people I see on the street, and it's never as cruel as what I think in my head about me.
I have such a good line for people who are struggling with this. Obviously you can't see me, but I have horrible acne scars from eyebrow to ear on the sides of my face. I just ask people "Have you noticed them?" And they always say no. People who have known me for months don't even notice them. And that seems to make them suddenly understand that that's how I see their face too
The world becomes a lot easier to navigate when you try to remember literally anything embarrassing about any stranger you’ve ever seen. Our worlds are microscopic in the grand scheme of things. Most people won’t even look at you sideways if you go outside in a full t-Rex costume. They’ve got other things to worry about in their lives
This is actually so real. In the past few years I have been comparing myself to others in a healthy way; if I have a big pimple on my neck, I think about if that would deter me from crushing on someone else. And I realize it wouldn't. It is truly transformative.
Fun fact: keeping your hands moisturized is one of the best ways to prevent hangnails. An 8 step hand skincare routine is a bit much but moisturizing gloves (or just otherwise using lotion regularly lol) will help you not get hangnails.
I had Cushing’s disease and it’s totally a thing, a symptom is literally called Moon Face (rude). Basically I had a brain tumor that was pumping out cortisol like crazy, the day of my brain surgery my cortisol was 4580 and normal is like 15-65 though, so I don’t think normal stress fluctuations would cause it. I looked puffed up like a balloon, kinda like what prednisone does to someone
@@AnaPie369 I looked it up because your comment intrigued me and I don’t think I have any facial swelling* despite living with generalized anxiety disorder constantly stressing me out and probably causing abnormal cortisol levels. The science seems to be saying that a small amount of puffiness can be caused by stress, but that noticeable facial swelling usually indicates a much more serious health problem. So it’s definitely a thing but also not something that TikTok can cure. *I have noticed that when I’m hiding in the bathroom during active panic attacks I look flushed and puffy, but that’s probably more about blood pressure than anything else.
I tried the heatless curlers too, I ripped those things off in the middle of the night. Also tries using a bonnet, it was too loud when I moved in my sleep. Needless to say, I can't use those lol
I'm tired and read this wrong and I was just sitting here thinking "yeah I also miss the days when self care was preparing yourself a rotisserie chicken" But tbh was I wrong, cooking yourself a delicious meal is more self care than anything tik tok will ever sell you
I remember getting a recommended video to me where it was a girl saying "if you're ugly it is your fault and there's no excuse to not be pretty nowadays" and it just crushed me. Sad how people are trying to bring back negativity under the guise of "just trying to help :0)"
Do not let anyone crush you! Do not give power to random people online talking bs. Even if it's corny to say that you are perfect just the way you are, it's the truth! Don't ever take your value from other people, you are valuable and you know it. Even if you have insecurities, so what, every one has. But those things don't matter, not even a bit. Think of yourself as a whole like your body, mind and soul. You are best as you, as the way you are. Remind yourself every day that you are the way you are and that is just absolutely perfect for you. Remind yourself every day to not give other people power over how you see yourself, it's your life!

This video really made me cry. As being a mouth breather uncontrollably because I’ve had big tonsils for my whole life, I felt like sh-t after seeing the ladies sh-t talking mouth breathers. I can’t control breathing through my mouth I’ve done it my whole life 😢

Tiktok is hell for ppl with ocd. I struggle with ocd/body dysmorphia regarding facial symmetry, until recently I often shaved my eyebrows and face until I bled. I know it’s different but whenever someone calls bs I don’t feel so alone.

as someone else with ocd, i completely agree. social media in general- but especially tiktok- is hell for me. i have a terrible relationship with it. although there are other things that bother me beside the unrealistic beauty standard that's constantly being pushed out, it's extremely toxic and it always finds a way to get me worried about a new thing when it comes to my appearance. i haven't really used the app for two years now because of it. i fear i'm missing out if i'm not aware of what's popular or what trends there are, but i know ultimately it's better for my mental health. sadly, even still, i can't get away from all of these skincare and beauty videos that pop up on my feed on other platforms.
maaan hate how makeup has just completely destroyed everyone's perceptions to the point where your skin has too look perfect even without it. the standards are insane. like what if i just wanna look emo :(
I also wanna look emo and my beauty routine consists of giving myself bad haircuts in the bathroom mirror with nail scissors and listening to radioactive levels of bad myspace metalcore.
It’s not makeup by itself. It’s a culture of hyper-consumerism pushed by social media, as well as beauty standards pushed via mainstream media. One can have a positive relationship with makeup as a form of self-expression. If you wanna be emo - go for it. Makeup is a huge part of the emo aesthetic.
The mouth tape trend is wild because I’ve had TMJ dysfunction my whole life and mouth guards/tape are a way to help with tooth grinding and mouth breathing at night, and “mewing” is an exercise I had to do years ago for TMJ dysfunction. It’s like they take 1% of the medical basis for these practices and blow it up way out of proportion
I also have tmj and I was looking at those jaw things like it makes my jaw hurt just looking at them lmao. I don’t need to fuck up my jaw any more than it already is.
Ok, actually I need more information on this. My sister has TMJ, and she might like something to help. As for me, I grind my teeth all the time, but especially in my sleep, but I can't sleep when I have one of those teeth guard things because they're really really uncomfortable. If you have any recommended search terms so I can research, I'd really appreciate it.
Yeah I was told to push my tongue to the roof of my mouth when I got my braces on because after getting my tonsils out my tongue rested too far back in my mouth, which meant it wasn't pushing my teeth, which meant my teeth were way too crowded in there lmao. The braces basically had to make my teeth social distance.
@@lucychristine7454 you might have better luck with a molded mouth guard, the type you boil in water and then bite down on so it fits better- or if there’s a local dentist that specializes in TMJ issues they can make you a custom one which is what I have. They’re still kinda uncomfy and take time to adjust to, but it changed my life. I only wore it every night for about a year, now I just wear it when I notice I’m waking up with jaw pain again. Best of luck ❤️🩹
I grew up as an awkward girl in a household of conventionally attractive white women, who are insecure to a point it’s violent. I’ve learned a lot of valuable lessons about what beauty is because of it. My mom invested everything into refining my image as soon as possible. Starting when I was 10 she started putting blonde highlights in my hair, made me shave my legs, wouldn’t let me wear glasses for my bad eyesight so I only owned contacts, and gave me self-tan lotions to wear. By the time I was 12 she was teaching me how to put on a full face of makeup that would go so overboard I got bullied for looking “30 years old” on the bus ride home. I had an eating disorder without realizing it probably starting around when I was 14-15, because my mom also has an eating disorder and it was encouraged. When you’re different inside, and a total nerd like I was, it doesn’t matter how nice your clothes are or how pretty your makeup is. You will never be in the in-group. My mom and sister would treat me terribly for not valuing the same things they did. My mom once called me “the anti-kardashian” as an insult when I stopped dressing like a bully from a 2000s Disney movie. By the time I was 20 and out of the house I was finally getting help for my ED and mental health, and it became apparent I would not have a good quality of life unless I started taking medication. Medication like mood stabilizers that make you gain weight. After being fixated on my weight and beauty my whole life, I chose my mental health instead. I went from weighing 120 lbs (very thin for my height of 5’9”) to weighing 180 in a matter of months. I’ve been overweight ever since. I have “plain” features. Pale, small eyes, wrinkly textured skin, small lips, a big forehead, a big nose. I gain weight almost entirely in my stomach area and have a lot of stretch marks. I was never going to be “one of the beautiful ones.” What a tragedy, right? My body and the way I look is the least interesting thing about me. My wrinkles and scars are signs that my body has kept me alive long enough to age. I am beautiful because of the person I am. Looks fade. You’re only young for a short while. My mom and sister are some of the most miserable people I’ve ever known. They’re rail thin in bodies that were not designed to be that small. Their skin always looks weird from spray tans. They talk incessantly about their weight, their clothes, they body check each other, they brag about how little they’ve had to eat today, etc. They’re mean and shallow people. The most important thing in the world to them is how other people see them. They look at me horrified and are ashamed of me, because to them, the happiest I’ve ever been is their worst nightmare. Ladies, FREE YOURSELVES. It is NOT worth it. The times I looked “the best” to people were the darkest times of my life when I felt the absolute worst. The anxiety I had about making sure everything was exactly in place was suffocating. You are a victim to a machine that wants to sell you shit in a never ending cycle all to appease capitalism, men, and uphold white supremacist beauty standards. Break out of that cycle.
It takes a lot of strength to choose your mental health over beauty standards that have been forced on you so intensely, it’s really admirable. I hope your mom and sister can recover one day too
Beautiful message and glad to hear you’re doing better! My mom had a somewhat similar relationship with her mom in relation to weight especially. So when I was growing up, she made sure to never comment on my weight or physical characteristics. There were still outside pressures, sure, but I felt able to be a kid and not care about how I looked. All that to say, the cycle definitely can end, whether that be with your own kids or with how you treat the people around you. People who have the strength to break those cycles like you are the reason why the world becomes a better place :)
100% but the issue is that people with no reason to wear them make up insecurities and force them onto others. I was thinking that too as someone who has it pretty bad and there probably are other products too that are great for legit problems people have.
I used to use aquaphor with cotton gloves to bed when I had bad OCD and my hands would be raw from all the hand washing and it really did help! I still do it if I notice my hands are getting a bit dry in the winter
You know it’s getting bad when you see a group of grown adult male coworkers discussing how bad this food and that food are, how they haven’t fasted for long enough to eat, how their workout wasn’t good enough because they wanted to eat normal food that day, talking about how they tracked their exact amount of REM sleep, exactly how much water they drank they day before, etc. This obsession with appearing healthy and tracking every element of our behavior comes at the expense of mental health, normal living and eating, and actual physical health. I reject all of it.
It's especially annoying because if we took all the things you said and toned them down a notch, it'd be pretty normal. Making sure you eat healthy food (why do these people think you can't have fun AND healthy meals is beyond me), drinking enough water, having a good night of sleep, working out... All of those are perfectly normal (and will probably achieve what those ShitTok trends try to sell you) as long as you don't up them to eleven.
@confusedjello7292 yeah true fictional stories can never have a message behind them because we all know it's not reality. That's why nobody cared about Schindler's List!
Thank you, Chad Chad, I am a 36 year old mom, and I sometimes feel overwhelmed by new beauty trends. It can be exhausting. But I am happy that there are people like you who can bring light and humor to the ridiculousness of the fast-paced beauty industry. I really enjoy your videos!
The only times you should wrap something around your middle is after giving birth to help the uterus contract or for posture, for scoliosis. Both are scenarios which do not happen to everyone
@@CaptainDoomsdayYeah actually! Pop culture has made it look like they were torture devices, think of the trope scene with a girl holding tightly onto a bedpost while her mother/sister/maid pulls strongly on the back laces until she passes out. That’s like. Straight up not real. Real corsets were supportive garments like modern bras, they weren’t there to squeeze you into being ~skinny~, in fact, many of them simply used padding at the hips to make the waist look smaller in contrast. The woman in the video is binding her abdomen, not great, but also not a corset. Let’s not malign historical garments because pirates of the caribbean and bridgerton say they’re bad.
@@CaptainDoomsday a properly fitting corset is actually fine, excessive tight lacing could be an issue but it was only a small minority of people doing this and not frequently. Keep in mind corsets were worn by women of all classes, doing many different activities and worn by working women throughout days of extremely physical labour. There was a lot of nonsensical propaganda spread about the dangers of corset wearing by doctors at the time who had various other incredibly weird and ignorant theories on womens health.
I loved absolutely every second of this vid. The editing, the comedy, just everything. Imagine puting on the tape and the chin strap and then getting the flu during the night and I'm talking about those really bad ones where you wake up and your nose is blocked and you start having sympathy for noseless Voldemort!
Tbh Chad I rly needed this. I’m a 13 year old and I feel rly ugly a lot of the time. Thx so much for posting this Edit: Chad Chad thanks for the like, and thanks everyone for all the lovely comments. ❤️
I'm sorry you feel that way. I know I used to feel so ugly at that age all the time and it made me miserable, and that was _before_ all this influencer junk even existed. Please know that you're the only one your appearance truly matters to in the end, and that it's okay to look a little "ugly", especially as you go into puberty. If you nurture yourself and are kind to yourself, you will be able to grow to love those things about yourself that you are self conscious about now, I promise. Also, drink plenty of water and try to get 8 hours of sleep. Genuinely will help with things like skin clarity and eye bags. And it's good for you and you deserve it.
you're probably not ugly, and even if you are, most people are ugly at 13. I looked horrendous - greasy hair, terrible acne, mismatched clothes and the body shape of a dumpling. now at 21, I'm generally considered conventionally attractive. give it until you're 16, maybe 17 or 18, you'll have a massive glow-up just from growing into yourself.
I wasn't typically attractive at 13, but now I'm told I'm attractive and I still do this act of this crazy stuff. I just had to grow into myself. You will too. ❤
being 13 is insane i get how you feel 🩷 but you're definitely not ugly and even if you're not conventionally attractive who gaf just try to have as much fun as you can :))
Throw away social media trust me you will be much happier, reduce your screentime to like an hour and just watch entertainment and educational stuff, also your just 13 little one, it's okay, most people look "bad" or "ugly" at 13, or we think when we are 13 we do, you have just started your teens its easy to feel insecure, but try to keep up with yourself and be healthy don't let social media decide what's beautiful what's not!
I've always been insecure about my soft jawline and other parts of my body, but after seeing people online getting things to "fix" them I literally stopped being insecure. Now I love every part of my body, I have no time to waste
Listen everybody, you should never think you are not beautiful or handsome enough. Everyone has insecurities but no one should ever let that control their minds or life, never obsess over the way you look. Everyone is perfect the way they are. No matter how big or small your insecurities are, they don't matter, don't even let it take time out of your day. Things people obsess about themselves are often things no one else even notices, everyone is busy obsessing about their own insecurities and even if someone were to notice, so what, don't let other people make yourself think badly of yourself. You should know you are perfect the way you are! Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.
What always gets me with influencers that turn beauty routines into a job like that is that they all look...... normal. You'd think that community would be full of Supermodel-looking people who glisten hypnotically in the sun and dazzle you with their aura of perfection, but nope, they pretty much all look like someone you might pass on the street without a second look. It's almost like beauty is highly subjective.
it’s honestly worse when they’re models cause they’re just selling their genetics, or more commonly, the work they got done. Rather they look normal 😅 but they surely always stay looking exactly the same!
like, they all look normal. i can't tell the difference between them and someone who does fuck all in terms of skincare. this is your sign to free yourself from the skincare prison, everyone. just washing with face wash or a hot rag is enough, moisturizer if your skin gets dry. you do NAWT need to spend half a day on it. nobody will notice the difference unless they're taking a goddamn microscope to your pores. focus on things that make you happy instead. skincare should not be a hobby lmao
@@bur_n_tAlso sunscreen. UV exposure is one thing that actually will destroy your skin so if you care about wrinkles and spots then protect yourself from the sun.
Correct. For me, when I think of models, I think of people with quirky, memorable faces. Unique face shapes and proportions. I've seen more people like that selling fish on the street covered in sweat.
9:35 As someone with sleap apnea I have to say, please for the love of god DO NOT TAPE YOUR MOUTH SHUT AT NIGHT IF YOU HAVE SLEEP APNEA! YOU ARE GOING TO DIE! Most sleep apnea is caused by the soft tissues in the neck constricting your esophagus when the muscles in your neck are relax during sleep (this is also why overweight people, like myself, are more prone to it, but anyone can suffer from it). The last thing you need to do is take away 50% of your bodie's options for breathing. There's a reason why if you have it bad enough your doctor gives you an oxygen machine and not a f**king gag. Also, while I'm here, can someone explain how it's possible to have enough time to do all this S**t and at the same time also earn enough money to afford all this s**t?
to your last point, they make a shit ton in the sponsorship money pedaling snake oil and cure-alls for "ugly" people. They convince people they have a problem and sell them the solution. It's not supposed to obtainable because then you would have the problem they invented solved- can't have that, people would stop buying
They can afford it because doing these tiktoks is literally their job. They get paid for spending hours on it. This is also what people should look at the content like, a person doing a job, not life advice or beauty advice.
Good lord, the mouth tape can be such a health hazard. Especially for sleep apnea too, like if you can't gasp for air because of that dumb tape, you'll suffocate, or go into cardiac arrest
I fully agree that it sounds insane but I do have a friend with sleep apnea who uses a cpap machine and mouth tape and loves it. I could never do it though, I would freak out
I have crooked nose cartilage which causes me to not breath effectively through my nose, especially while sleeping and I didn't know this until I was 21. Imagine someone having this issue and using this mouth tape without knowing about it 💀 I am sorry it makes me ugly, I either have to get an expensive surgery or breath through my mouth as I sleep. Not my fault I was born damaged.
The only thing actually right from those TikTok’s is that breathing only from your mouth gives you a weaker chin, however it’s about breathing with your mouth open when you grow up and blocking it during sleep does nothing.
After watching I showed this to my 10 year old sister. She’s like majorly obsessed with these types of routines so she’ll fit in at school to the point where she used a skin bleaching cream so people in her class would like her for being paler. 😰 I feel so bad for anyone who feels like they need to do this. She’s literally a child and feels like she has to be in her 20s physically to fit in. Modern world is crazy
That mouth tape ad with the Yoshi toy feels like satire. The aggressive wording, the aggressive way he "gently" applied it to the toy, the "it's usually $50. But don't worry! You can get it from me for *$120*!". Made me genuinely laugh a little.
a lot of tiktok ads make you feel like they are "one of you" by using over the top humor, but if it ends by "you can buy it on my bio/tiktok shop! " its still an ad
You can’t ever win as a woman. If you’re not “putting in enough effort” into your appearance, you’re ugly. If you’re doing everything that’s suggested - a balanced diet, makeup, skincare, sports, fashion etc. - people are quick to assume you’re superficial, arrogant and unintelligent and you’re more likely to get objectified and your qualifications dismissed. So, dear fellow women, do what you feel most comfortable with and stick to people that support you doing so! And be kind to others ❤
I also wanna emphasize that I meant the “ugly” in quotations. You are being perceived as ugly judging by societal beauty standards. I didn’t mean it like you actually are. Personally, I value people that are kind and sympathetic, I couldn’t care less about people’s beauty routines - unless they feel happy (not) doing some of the things I mentioned! Then I’ll be cheering you on!
Also, beauty by societal standards is such a luxury product. Do you know how expensive meeting all those expectations is?? Not everyone could even afford that.
Not only are products like this usually advertised by demeaning people but they're also very wasteful, but it's also a TON of single-use plastic. I am not the type to shame people for using single-use plastic, but it's insane to use like 15 single-use products that don't truly do anything. At least older beauty scams were 1 thing that you used instead of the 15 to 20 people use now.
Not only did you make a fun video, you also pointed out how immoral the pressure from people promoting this is, you went through a hell of a night for a bit, filmed yourself right after waking up which a lot of people are insecure about, and were open about how you have fallen for some of this in the past too. Huge respect chad chad
Aside from your ability to make me burst out of laughter, I wanted to say: as someone who previously fallen into this shitty TikTok skincare rabbit hole because of my ocd (preventive Botox at 20yo adds, anti wrinkles pillow…), thanks so much. You helped a lot of lost teenagers here

@@GenderedMess yup 😔 didn’t wear my metal ones for a week because i was sick and they made it hard to breathe and some of my top teeth dealigned + i had to go get them remolded for $300
Genuinely thank you for making this 😭 I’m very insecure about my jawline and I was genuinely considering mouth taping and watched all these videos and didn’t even see the flaws I was so focused on just wanting to “fix” it. I’m still not the most confident in it but I see from this video that obviously these are stupid fake scams that prey on insecure people 😭 Thank you Chad Chad!
yeah honestly when she was showing the example videos i was like "oh, wait! thats something iii want to fix!!" & im sure theyre very enticing to people like me who r being spoon fed benefits & pros we want in these videos.... but there is something pretty about not being "pretty".. & i try to remind myself that! plus its comforting. my mom has the same kind of jawline pudge as me, my friends do too! and i love my mom & my friends... so even though ive always been insecure about it, its kind of comforting & beautiful to look like them 💕 makes me feel like a teddy bear or sumthing... i am round & full of love !!! :D🩷💞
there’s nothing wrong with having a soft jawline, i’m sorry the internet has made you feel that way. may these stupid tiktok trends die soon bc i’m so tired of people feeling ashamed to look like people
THANK YOU for acknowledging the fact that a lot of people can't breathe primarily through their nose. Every time i hear all these claims about the supposed benefits of nose breathing, I can't help but think "ok great, but i literally can't". My nose gets stuffed up from nearly anything (i think it's some kind of issue with my nasal cavity) and combining that with allergies, i'm not able to breathe if it's only through my nose. Oh ALSO i get nasty headaches if I fo try to breathe through my nose too much. I do already know to ignore these beauty propaganda messages, but i still hate knowing there's people out there who would believe all this shit about me if I told them I can't breathe through my nose.
I got diagnosed with perioral dermatitis earlier this year. The cause can be using too many skincare or makeup products, especially oily or fatty products. I got it from primarily using oil based products, and the "morning shed routine" and many other things they do in this video e.g., mouth taping, looks like a recipe to also get this skin condition!
mouth taping looks like a brilliant way to give yourself ingrown hair follicles, perioral dermatitis, and acne outbreaks, which, of course, only exacerbates insecurities and scares the user into buying more products. i feel like people don't respect how fussy the skin's microbiome is so they just bombard it with all kinds of placebo slop.
I needed this. I've never been really into 'routines' and honestly it makes me feel like a failure of a woman sometimes. This video was a much needed breath of fresh air!
One of the greatest tragedies of beauty influencers is that theyve convinced my 45 year old mom that she should still look 20. Im not even joking. She thinks the pockets of fat in her arm pits are like... a personal failing when no, its just a very regular and healthy aspect of her human anatomy. She refuses to believe that theres nothing to be done about the "rolls" on her back, that only exist because its the natural way for skin to fold????
same for my mother :-( she turns 50 soon, and whenever i try to tell her that theres nothing wrong with aging and the things shes doing arent helping her she shuts me down. shoutout to her for letting her grey hair grow out though
@@AW-xc1xc same. I only developed them after I beat my eating disorder and sometimes they make me wanna restrict my diet again but like, I’ll die. My specific disorder stems from anxiety about unfamiliar food triggering my sensory issues or food allergies so I didn’t even think about it as being disordered until I was formally diagnosed. I thought my jutting ribs and vertebrae were the norm. I was convinced I just had lucky genetics to be so small you could feel my pelvis through my back. Then my hair started falling out and all my teeth rotted from chronic calcium deficiency. Fun times.
SKIN FACT: Collagen in skin care products is made out of molecules that are too large to pass through the protein channels in our skin cells. So it just kinda sits there until you wash it off. And it can't really do a whole lot just sitting there. So look for products with peptides which are smaller protein parts that can pass through your cell barriers and then your cells can create bigger proteins, like collagen, from those parts. Oral supplements also have some research with efficacy for skin and hair improvements. Not for joints though. All your hypermobile friends will tell you it won't work for joints. Don't forget to wear your SPF and protect yourself from the sun! Skin cancer is no joke!
@@princessofjedi I'm no expert but I don't think collagen does that much for thinning hair. There are many things that can cause temporary hair thinning like diet, hormones, illness etc. and there are various ways to resolve those issues. However I'm pretty sure permanent hair thinning can only be prevented with a few options that I cannot remember the name of and you often won't find in basic over the counter products. To be clear this comment is just what I can remember right now based on research I did several years ago so apologies if it's inaccurate.
@ everything I read said it helps strengthen hair and helps prevent breakage which is what I’m pretty sure caused it because nothing else has changed. It’s supposed to help encourage healthy hair growth (it’s more than just collagen in it but still lmao)
Collagen in skin care doesn’t penetrate and promote collagen production under the skin but it is a natural humuctant that can help moisturize the skin. It’s not useless it just doesn’t do what most people assume it does.
i’m so glad i’m not growing up with tiktok, i think about the insecurities i had as a teenager and can’t even imagine the shit influences have made these kids insecure about. it’s so sad and it’s not helping anyone by sharing the shit they do.
Yeah, I don't have any children yet, but all the social media obsession/cyber-bullying would be scaring me s***less if I did. I would be an anxious wreck. I mean, you can do your best to prepare them for the world, but when they're being bombarded by this crap 24/7 it would be hard to prevent that mindset from taking hold.
There was a book written a few years ago about mouth breathing and it was so convincing but quietly proven to be nothing but pseudo science and it's sooo wild to see influencers and people on tik tok quote that book over and over and over again without questioning the source. it takes five minutes to figure out where the facts don't line up
@@justanordinarygirl7335 i’m not op but it usually depends on the person and their skin type. like i got a really bad allergic reaction to benzoyl peroxide once but it works well for a lot of people
Same. I'm very happy to say that a much simpler skincare routine with a focus on rebuilding my skin barrier has cleared mine up for years (my PD started in 2019), but I hate that I even ended up there, thanks to all of the pressures to USE ALL OF THE PRODUCTS!!
All you need for a hand routine is some vaseline and a pair of cotton gloves. Apply a layer of vaseline, put on the gloves, go to sleep. My hands were cracked and painful last month because of the cold and no hand cream was working, so I turned to vaseline, and I wil never look back. And the dry skin peeled off on its own after the third night, no scrub necessary.
I always end up feeling horrible after seeing these beauty trends and videos, but the videos you made about them have made me realise how stupid it all is, and that I am perfectly fine just the way I am. Thank you chad chad
In American Psycho (which is satirical btw), Patrick Bateman has this rigorous skincare routine, but the irony was that he didn’t even care when someone complimented it
i think he was pretending lol. why else would he do that? also he obviously did care about what others thought cause of that scene with the business cards
@@mallarielove not necessarily. After all, he’s a psycho; by definition, he lacks empathy. You are right tho, but only because he’s a narcissist as well, so he only cares if someone else is seen as better than him
I’ve seriously complained to smile lines to someone before and they fr told me to stop smiling? Like ho I’m jolly and whimsical i physically can not stop smiling
Honestly, you'll probably feel way more ugly when you do all these routines than if you spend your two hours in the evening doing a Hobby or Meeting your friends or whatever. Such an extreme fixation on how you look can only lead to also realizing every single thing you think might be less than perfect.
“Morning shed” reminds me of those scenes from the 50s that depict women getting up hours before their husbands just to make themselves pretty before he woke up.
I laughed out loud so many times during this video. I appreciate the great entertainment, while also feeling less shit about being a human and not a doll.

Yeah, people seeing someone with cystic acne and giving such useful advice as "you need to wash your face" is sure normal and cool of them, isn't it? 🥴
Not that these products aren't bullshit anyway, but I would consider the fact that you might actually have an adhesive allergy. Your reactivity to some of these products probably warrants at least looking into it if you haven't already

It's not great, but try to keep in mind that the consumer waste we create is *not* what is killing the planet. Mammoth companies that dump endless waste into our oceans are the problem.
It's spread to every single thing we consume online now. okay sorry to be a complete freak but the skin-shedding is the beginning scene of American Psycho. it's like one of the first things he does.
@emch2vy i appreciate the facts ^^

It's really stupid. I've got those "ugly" features, but I'm a nose-breather.

These TikTok trends fail to take into account the amount of single use plastics that is being used for each and every single day for these routines!!! There’s just so much wastage.
And only for them to feel good because this stuff probably doesn't do anything at all. It's horrible.
There are like two types of "trends" online, at least as far is I can see, and one is overconsumption to the max, not giving a damn about anything every except for looks and short term fun and the other is underconsumption to the max, making people feel like climate change is their personal failure.

yes the beuty and self help tiktok (and other social media comunities) is extremely close and often times based on the racism groups or their philosofies. there is a lot of overlap.
Thank you 🙏

Yep me too kinda. I've been mewing since I was 8 years old lmao
Thank you for calling out ridiculous beauty standards and the regimens used to achieve them. I love your humourous style too!
Break out of that cycle.
this comment made me tear up, thank you so much for sharing 🤍🫂 happy ur in a better place now :)
sending love. this spoke to me as someone who also had an eating disorder and chose mental health
It takes a lot of strength to choose your mental health over beauty standards that have been forced on you so intensely, it’s really admirable. I hope your mom and sister can recover one day too
Thank you for sharing. Beautifully said.
People who have the strength to break those cycles like you are the reason why the world becomes a better place :)
those aquaphor hand glovies look great for someone who suffers from eczema in the winter tho
100% but the issue is that people with no reason to wear them make up insecurities and force them onto others. I was thinking that too as someone who has it pretty bad and there probably are other products too that are great for legit problems people have.
They do! I get it on the top of my hands every winter and I wear what my husband calls “magician gloves” to bed with CeraVe healing ointment.
I used to use aquaphor with cotton gloves to bed when I had bad OCD and my hands would be raw from all the hand washing and it really did help! I still do it if I notice my hands are getting a bit dry in the winter
It’s true they do my sister loves them
I love the hand and foot socks as someone who gets painfully dry skin there in winter!
You're telling me corsets weren't a good idea with no drawbacks?
Now I love every part of my body, I have no time to waste
this!!! nothing makes me feel better about myself than knowing I can be happy and confident just the way I am (:
exactly!! these tiktokers are just sad bro
Looking different is so much better
Love this mindset.
UV exposure is one thing that actually will destroy your skin so if you care about wrinkles and spots then protect yourself from the sun.
its almost like skincare is for looking good later in life, not necessarily right away lol
Correct. For me, when I think of models, I think of people with quirky, memorable faces. Unique face shapes and proportions. I've seen more people like that selling fish on the street covered in sweat.
I love how your videos balance funny editing with thoughtful commentary, love your vids
“Thinking of yourself as a project only lines the pockets of big corporations.” That is something I’m gonna have to hold onto for the future
Thank you!!!! That's what I've said all along. They must be independently wealthy bc damn
to your last point, they make a shit ton in the sponsorship money pedaling snake oil and cure-alls for "ugly" people.
I feel like I wouldn’t want to tape my mouth shut anyway 😭 i dont want to only breathe thru my nose lmao
@@bbethb imagine the new genre of nightmares you would unlock by sleeping with your mouth taped shut 💀like wtf
I could never do it though, I would freak out
@@jameswilson4854 the cpap machine makes all the difference
Breathing from your mouth is not good for your tonsils.
I have crooked nose cartilage which causes me to not breath effectively through my nose, especially while sleeping and I didn't know this until I was 21. Imagine someone having this issue and using this mouth tape without knowing about it 💀
I am sorry it makes me ugly, I either have to get an expensive surgery or breath through my mouth as I sleep.
Imagine sleeping with a new partner for the first time and they end up for 4 hours in the bathroom only to come out like this and hit the hay
That mouth tape ad with the Yoshi toy feels like satire. The aggressive wording, the aggressive way he "gently" applied it to the toy, the "it's usually $50. But don't worry! You can get it from me for *$120*!". Made me genuinely laugh a little.
That's not Yoshi tho 🤓☝️
he said “under $20” not “$120”
I think he said "under 20 dollars"
That's a Koopa Troopa!
a lot of tiktok ads make you feel like they are "one of you" by using over the top humor, but if it ends by "you can buy it on my bio/tiktok shop!
Truest thing I've seen
there was no winning the game, so I opted to no longer play, and have never been more free
and by game, I also mean having a gender at all, but still,
@@Romanticoutlaw slay. No longer taking part in the game is the first step to happiness!
Being ugly is not MY fault, it's the fault of unattainable standards that keep on getting crazier and crazier, jfc. What a terrible time to be alive
It’s your parents fault for breeding with ugly people genes.

HOW DOES ANYONE SLEEP WITH ALL THOSE STUFF ON THEIR FACE. Seriously it seems like a sensory nightmare
right like i still can’t sleep if my retainers that i’ve worn for years and are perfectly molded to my teeth are in sometimes 😭
I feel like most of them don't. They have it on long enough to sell the product and that's it.
i can't sleep with _bandaids_ on my face like 😭
@@yoongiverse. Real though, I hated sleeping with a retainer and (stupidly) didn't put it on for one night. Top row still fits perfectly but the bottom row can't at all, all because a tooth that was originally fine decided it wanted to move around.
Love the use of DDLC for background music where what is presented as normal is actually horrifying.
Finally someone talking about the music…. The trauma is coming back….
I’m genuinely so glad you’re talking about this. I hate seeing these tik toks and seeing women fall for marketing insecurities.
I got diagnosed with perioral dermatitis earlier this year. The cause can be using too many skincare or makeup products, especially oily or fatty products. I got it from primarily using oil based products, and the "morning shed routine" and many other things they do in this video e.g., mouth taping, looks like a recipe to also get this skin condition!
hey that just means they can sell MORE bs products to the victims later!! $$$$ get that coin exploiting people younger/stupider than they are :(
mouth taping looks like a brilliant way to give yourself ingrown hair follicles, perioral dermatitis, and acne outbreaks, which, of course, only exacerbates insecurities and scares the user into buying more products. i feel like people don't respect how fussy the skin's microbiome is so they just bombard it with all kinds of placebo slop.
She refuses to believe that theres nothing to be done about the "rolls" on her back, that only exist because its the natural way for skin to fold????
you mean you're not ripping open your abdomen every time you need to bend? Skin issue
same for my mother :-( she turns 50 soon, and whenever i try to tell her that theres nothing wrong with aging and the things shes doing arent helping her she shuts me down. shoutout to her for letting her grey hair grow out though
@rejectfalseicons ong my mom's been embracing her natural hair more too :))
I'm in my 20s and around the healthy weight for my age group, and I also have back rolls. It's just the way the skin folds on my body.
Skin cancer is no joke!
genuinely helpful advice as someone who has brittle thin nails thank you
Wait wait wait….so should I NOT be using collagen for my hair getting a bit thin right at the front? Will it not work?!?!

Holy shit, I just found your channel and these one liners keep sending me
There was a book written a few years ago about mouth breathing and it was so convincing but quietly proven to be nothing but pseudo science and it's sooo wild to see influencers and people on tik tok quote that book over and over and over again without questioning the source. it takes five minutes to figure out where the facts don't line up
