how do you plan a trip? (things i wish i knew)

I've been on around 12 backpacking trips now and I've picked up tips & tricks on the way how to best plan your time away. It's best not to overplan, however follow this guide to make sure you hit all the essentials including which website to book your flights on and how far in advance to book your hostels.
