Retired nurse here. I had bought a bottle of the Steramine after your last video. I really liked the idea of being able to fully disinfect my sinks after rinsing poultry. That's the litmus test for me. I even use it now in my refrigerator and I feel better about all that produce inside. TY for teaching this old dog a new trick.

I'm a retired nurse, too, and I think this is obsessively ridiculous. Go back to your microbiology class in your mind, and your immunology. This is over the top.

@@robinpauleota4773 I have to point out that master food preservers teaching people to dehydrate and can food use Steramine, as does the school kitchen staff where my friend worked for many years. It makes sense to me when processing lots of food for storage. Having a clean kitchen when processing food only protects those who later eat the food.

@@robinpauleota4773 Not a retired nurse here, but I don't understand what is so terrible about wanting a clean sink and refrigerator. Steramine is economical and thorough. Seems better than buying bottle after bottle of expensive, but less effective cleaners, wasting all of that plastic. I bought a dollar store spray bottle and a multi-pack of steramine tablets (just how they were available at Amazon), and I am pretty sure I will be passing some of them down to my daughter. They will last me forever! I love that I don't have to keep putting cleaners on my shopping list. Honestly, what is so offensive about this?

We as a society use too much of these chemicals. I for one never wash my hands unless I am cooking for others or if the toilet paper breaks. I use smokeless tobacco so I constantly put my fingers in my mouth. During the pandemic I wore a fake (see through) mask, purposely hung out with people that had COVID-19, went out to eat every day because I was laid off, I got COVID-19 three times and I feel it is boosted my immunity and made it not as harsh as the first time. The best immunity defense is to actually get the virus. I was one of those super duper spreaders YW for my experiments. I also started working on a ranch and when we used ivermectin on the cattle, it would always get on my hands so I rubbed it on my forearms; I believe it worked because I hung out with someone that had COVID-19 for a full week for two hours a day and never got the bug again. I can’t wait for the new mutations so I can proceed further with my experiments 😅

I went to cosmetology school in 1978 and we were taught to use QUATS (the 99.999% sanitizer) for our brushes, combs, sinks, countertops, etc.. It is still the standard for those uses. However, we are required by the cosmetology board to use a liquid form and dilute it for different applications. When I purchased these little tablets after you mentioned them in your last video, imagine my surprise and irritation because the liquid is so much more expensive. We are even required to use a certain brand called Barbicide. Thanks for the info, the airplane scenario is an eye opener. Glad you were able to slap that last germ off of your counter. Thanks Pam and Jim you are doing important work

I have to take a minute and tell you about the ad that just ran at 5:51 into this video. It was a promotion for a book called “The Lost Frontier Skills”. I find these collections of old ways interesting but this was shocking, and somewhat ironic that they showed how you can make meatballs from pork and rice, brown them, put them in hot jars from a 350 degree oven (to sterilize the jars) with one piece lids and boil them for 50 minutes to preserve them. Bring the water in the pot up most of the way up the jars but leave “some head space” in the pot. I reported the video ad for promoting unsafe canning practices. I’m blown away that this found its way onto your channel!

As a nurse of 38 yrs I understand the importance of disinfection. But I also understand that our obsession over the bad bacteria has eliminated the good bacteria and has led to a lot of the resistant bacteria we have and our lack of a good immune system. Bacteria doesn’t grow on a surface that is clean and dry. This is no different than taking antibiotics for everything and helping to create resistant strains.

I totally agree with you! I would however, like to add that using Steramine after a decidedly "dirty" task (raw meats, larger than normal exposure to other risks, etc), is a good thing to do. I just won't be using it for day to day cleaning.

It's an interesting point. I did a little research and have to admit a lot of it went over my head but it was a research paper on the potential environmental impact on the increased use of quaternary ammonium (steramine, I think) globally. It was interested in how it was interacting with soil microbes and aquatic life. It seems it is released in heavier quantities into the environment near hospitals. Anyway, the point that jumped out for me was the potential impact on sewer treatment because alongside killing bad bacteria it killed off the good bacteria that are an active part in the clearing process. Personally, I'm off grid for sewage and have a private mini water treatment plant. It takes our waste water and solids and treats it before releasing it into the ground. I live alongside a tidal estuary and so the treated water goes out into the tidal water. It's also a site of protected scientific interest, a protected habitat because of the mud flats, sand banks and associated wildlife, such as birds that gather and special plants that grow. So, the takeaway for me following my research was that I would buy steramine but use it with care and very sparingly, limiting it to times I wanted to ensure a really clean surface, such as when setting up a canning session. I won't let it go down my sink or toilet and won't compost any clothes used for wiping to protect the friendly bacteria in my compost heap.

      @lori2182 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@UpthePottingShed but why use it at all? In a home there is no need for it. Wash and air dry any surface. Proper canning techniques kills bacteria. We are killing ourselves with all these chemicals. We are probably the most sanitized country in world and I constantly see patients with cancer and autoimmune conditions ever increasing. Our one hospital does about a dozen colonoscopies a week on children. Babies less than a year old with leukemia. Patients that tell me they are gluten sensitive but they go to Europe and can eat bread without any problems. We want to try to “science” everything. Scientists needs to get a little humility and use what they learn with caution because today’s science is tomorrow’s fallacy.
There is just no reason to need this in a home environment if we could just use a little common sense instead of grabbing for a chemical.

@@UpthePottingShed look into hocl. you can make it at home with just salt and water and it is 100x more effective than bleech but is non toxic. it turns back into salt water after doing its job. it is used in dental offices, vet practices and wound care. Is it toxic...for pregnant women? 🤰 (Thinking about my pregnant Daughter-in-law). I've read that clorox, the fumes especially, will harm your thyroid gland. Case in point: I swam A LOT as a kid growing up in So. AZ and actually played down at the deep end of the pool where the chlorine tablets sat percolating. My thyroid gland is virtually shut down, non existent. I have had to supplement my thyroid gland since my child bearing years (1980s). 3 of our 7 kids are ALSO surviving on supplementation. It's not easy finding a physician that is willing to prescribe a good version of thyroid. Many resort to a synthetic, chemical copy (levo-rotary spin) that is not compatible with life. There's also the issue of converting T3>T4. It's life altering. Please enilighten us Pam, what is Steramine made of, or from?? Thanks 😊 so much. 😘

Gosh, I have never been concerned about germs and virus' unless I'm working with chicken or pork in the kitchen or make a mess of some sort, then I use soap and water LOL! I will say though that if there is a grid-down situation and I don't have hot water or ability to rinse, I did get some Steramine for that type of situation because you are so adamant about it so at least I have some if I need it but I've been cooking for 50yrs (yes I started pre-double digits!) and the only time I have gotten sick from food was from a restaurant. My husband and I haven't been sick since December of 2019, which we believe is when CV actually started circulating if not before then - and started boosting our immune system at that time, but either way. Thank you! I have COPD and most cleaners, especially "sanitizers" (clorox & lysol) are toxic to breathe, so I haven't been using them. I know that the vinegar I have been using, although a great cleaner, is not a sanitizer so learnng about searatine is an eyeopener!

I like how thoroughly you explain things. If I want to totally nuke a surface of germs/viruses I want to know the best thing to do so. However, I'm certain our immune systems have suffered a lot of harm from people disinfecting everything these last nearly three years. I'm glad God equipped us with immune systems and 99.999% isn't necessary. I will be getting some of this stuff though, mainly for the shelf life. And when I want ultra-mega-clean (eaw chicken comes to mind!) I'll be glad for the peace-of-mind.

Would it work for sanitizing laundry...like sheets and bedding in a sick room?
Thank you for being such a trusted guide for so many of us!

I order the Steramine. I used it to clean my Bathtub and shower. Sprayed it, let it set a minute and used the baking soda I usually use to scrub it. I was surprised how easy it was to clean. I have to say it was much easier than my usual bathroom scrub snd no harsh chemical smell. Thanks for the video

Thank you for doing this video! I have been using Steramine for about 6 months (because of one of your earlier videos). I had never heard of it before. I'm so happy to have it and I now use it to disinfect my freeze dryer as well. Thank you again for teaching us!

Pam & Jim, One other place to use the Steramine: In the Black and Gray tanks of your RVs. Especially when winterize them for the season. We first deep clean the tanks, then rinse and drain them, then refill them and place Steramine Powder we get from Restaurant Supply into the tank. Let it sit for at least 2-3 hours before draining, and rinsing. To add the antifreeze to the tanks. Just do not get it into your hot water heater.
