Lopsided coverage was expected but the best part was how much crow was dealt out by BYU to ESPN, the commentators, and pundits. So much Prime Shine and CO player spotlighting….all doused with BYU Blue! Loved every second of it. Appreciate your insights throughout the year Jake!
Great season for BYU. Even better is how they did it. No stars, no high profile draft picks, just great solid football players. And everyone buying into the system and culture. I wish the media would talk more about it. How many of these players came out of obscurity to put together ones of the best seasons in college football. It’s such a great underdog story.
They reason you don't think there were stars because the stupid media doesn't want to give BYU any props. Medi has its ways to hide the truth they dont want to get out, to fail their agenda. They have stars and NFL draft picks.

2 total rushing yards for CO pretty much says it all. Coach Prime can spin it any way he cares to, but they were outright crushed by BYU today. and that put a big smile on my face.
BYU was so prepared for this. Every time they talked to Jay Hill, I noticed a little gleam in his eyes. Like he knew something that we didn’t know. Now I understand. It was a little disappointing though, that ABC forgot that BYU was playing also. Even though we were kicking their butt, all you saw was their sideline.
This actually is very good, after thought, it will go down as one of BYU best teams with a big WHAT IF. The powers to be created it and now they have to suffer through it. BYU will go down in history as ...are they and could they be the best team in the NCAA? But they weren't invited as they should have been. (Head to head they won SMU on the field, tie breaker) Another asterisk on the collage football champion for Jan 2025 championship team. 🙂😄😜😁🤔
This was an amazing season. No question. But I will always wonder what could have been. The loss to KU will go down as one of the most consequential losses in program history.
@@karabare6077 Let’s be honest and thorough. Arod is not great. But Jake’s bad decision and execution on the endzone throw to TaAse was so bad! (Didn’t like the play call either). If BYU scores that TD it’s game over. Jake must improve. But he showed his samo samo vs CU, AGAIN!!!!
Everyone dumping on Retzlaff is missing one big point. Retz is obsessed with improving his skills and proving people wrong. He wasn't good in 2023 and was picked 16th, last, worst QB in the preseason B12 poll. His year over year improvement was spectacular. Yes, still a long way to go but y'all are assuming he won't improve his skills in this coming off season. If he works as hard over the next 9 months as he did this past year, he will be a top 10 QB in the FBS next year, and will lead BYU to the playoffs.
It is the best ever team. Maybe 2 or 3 Power 5 teams on past teams. They were all power 5 teams this year except Wyoming. Steve Young said playing in Laramie is the scariest place to play.
I am very happy about this season. This team really could compete with anyone in the country. Jake Retlaff was really the difference maker this season. He made some great plays to help us win games like OK State and Utah, but he also made some bad decisions that hurt us against Kansas and Arizona State. If he can limit his bad decisions next year, BYU can win the Big 12 outright and get that CFP bye.
Great podcast Jake. Could not have expressed it all any better. At the beginning of the year, I was one of very few who predicted 10-2 and a bowl game. I knew this team had talent. I believed in most of this staff. Frankly, BYU is an OC short of a National Championship calibre team. ARod at least figured out that moving the chains was critical last night. It only took him 38 games. But he is not a Natty quality IC and especially not a QB coach. A lot of Jake's fundamental mistakes are because he does not have a Ty Detmer error John Beck barking in his ear about when NOT to throw it or how to control his adrenaline (overthrow after overthrow) in the moment. Jake could be great. He is 't because his IC was a wide receiver, not a QB. ARod will never get it after 6 years in these positions. He IS THE SHORT STICK on staff. But even the receiver corp is not as good as it could be. Some of BYU's single coverage go routes would be so easily uncontested catches if the receivers would learn to get 20-35 yards down field and then hard break to the corner post or push a good S move to the opposite side. Jake is not yet throwing to where the receivers should be... Or the receivers are not running routes to shake the trailing defender after a sharp cut and get to where the ball is. These are fundamentals that s complement QB coach and a Fesi or ARod should be working out together. Hell I am just a dumb football analyst and I can see the problem. Why can't they?
Awesome win. Defense was lights out!!! Offense was too cute to start. There were questionable calls/throws, which is on play calls and QB play that gave Colorado a chance to get back into the game early on, but BYUs defense kept that from happening. I put this win more on the defense than the offense. I think it was more so the offense sometimes complimented the defense. I think BYU needed to run earlier in the game and not be as flashy, once they started running the offense played better. It felt like AROD jotted down some plays from madden to do something fun. Of course do some fun things but don’t do all of it right out the gate. Manage the plays better. I think for BYU to get to the next level they need to be more sound in offensive play calling. I have seen multiple drives where AROD refuses to run and goes 3 and out. This what they need to do to push through that wall to be more dominant in my opinion
After the onside kick I thought wouldn’t it be cool if we took every play that beat us in the regular season we used as our statement in the bowl win The onside kick, a pooch Kick (Kansas), and hammer ourrun games did (Arizona st)

Have played two quarters worth of good football.
If it was Shedur sanders playing qb for the Y that game. It would have been easily 60-14 byu. The QB job at byu better be up for grabs this coming season because Jake has earned the right for it to be taken from him. If coach Sitaki wants his team to be the force it should be? Having a dominant quarterback is not negotiable! Get J.R. Out of there or get the better qb in there and they will be in the playoff for sure
