    I'd say with only two short lines the LRT never "rose" enough to fall. It's just a new idea that looked like a good idea on paper but should have been tested more before deployment.

    some things not mentioned in the video:
    the govt intend to pilot the lrt system in bukit panjang and buona vista. buona vista's is eventually cancelled so only bukit panjang is built
    lrt is also planned for inter town travel. stage 3 to 5 of circle line was actually old LRT concept plans that is eventually merged with the marina line to form the circle line
    sengkang punggol lrt started construction in 1999, but as late as 2001, there are still plans for lrt to be built, such as jurong region lrt being announced in 2001, and provision is made for the punggol lrt north branch. jurong region eventually upgrade to a medium capacity mrt while punggol north lrt is being replaced by punggol coast mrt station.
    also pretty sure sengkang and punggol are more reliable than bukit panjang as they are built first so the tracks are relatively flat and straight unlike bukit panjang where they are forced to build the tracks around existing buildings (not sure if the plagued with issues for sengkang and punggol are correct, but they do have issues still)

      Buona Vista was merged with the Circle Line. Continuing with the LRT at Buona Vista will even increase fares more because got service 91, 191, and can amend bus routes.

      @@worldknowmore The Jurong Region LRT was upgraded into an MRT (LRT by international standards, not people movers). It's slated to be done by 2027.

    Yes, there are issues to address but we're not complaining Remember, Singapore is a young nation only 50 years old since Independence! The level of development she has seen in this short period time is unparallel and never heard of! Every development took place with a goal towards achieving world class 360⁰. Since the LRT program was a pioneer project to revolutionize the local transport system, we can happily forgive and forget the shortcomings as we know that the upcoming upgrades and new gen cars will address all issues studied. It's just a matter of time!

    The biggest problem is that the LRT (at least the Bukit Panjang LRT) system is basically a massive upscale from a people mover system that is used only on airport shuttles (other than Guangzhou APM which isn't doing any better for similar reasons). It is way stretched beyond what it is really intended for in both capacity and distance. Back in the days driverless people movers were quite the cool thing to have, but once the novelty wore off it was something residents had to put up with daily. Many of the MRT lines are also built with lower than expected capacity (3 cars for Downtown Line is simply nuts), with no room for expansion in the future. A lot of these end up being expensive rebuilds and modifications down the road.

    I think you've got it somewhat skewed.
    Operationally, economically and to harmonise with good city planning, the LRT system was, and now also is the best option.
    Covering a small neighbourhood, you can't have a MRT train to run and bend sharp corners at every few hundred metres.
    Complementing each other, the bus system has also been optimally set in place without straining road and ecological limitations.
    MRT runs necessarily on robust iron wheels on heavy iron tracks.
    LRT runs on rubber wheels on concrete tracks to avoid rumblings, metres from the residential HDB blocks.
    As regards LRT, it was an issue with the initial technology available.
    Hence, the first LRT system in Bukit Panjang did suffer considerable operational issues.
    But the Punggol and Sengkang LRT systems are running smoothly although a little short during rush hours, in passenger carrying capacity.
    Hope now you will see the LRT in better light.

    And it is not just the LRT, LTA have also failed in planning the capacity of SG MRT lines. At least 4 out of 6 MRT lines are under-provisioned with Circle Line and Downtown Line trains being ridiculously short(3-cars only), the stations as well as the trains are not build big enough to handle large amount of crowds especially during peak hours. Often people will have to wait for a few trains before they can board even at non-interchange stations like Tai Seng, together with the future Jurong Region Line these three medium capacity lines feels more like LRT rather than MRT even Malaysia LRT such as Ampang Line carry about the same passengers as our MRT.
    The next two lines are under-provisioned is the East West Line and North East Line even though they are considered as high-capacity lines , for the East West Line the entire West and North West area only depends on East West Line to travel towards the city or other areas(NSL makes a long u-turn thus not appealing to most people) and in 2027 when Tengah is completed the West area will have additional at least 120k+ people relying on East West Line as the Jurong Region Line transport everyone till Jurong East only thus 6-car trains is really not enough. For the North East Line the entire North East area depends on the North East Line to travel to the City or other areas as these three towns Punggol, Sengkang and Hougang have limited transport infrastructure and public transport options thus everyone living in those three areas are forced to use North East Line. The line is so packed until the train can be filled to the brim even at Sengkang which is the second stop and one small delay can cause large amount of crowds thus Hougang and Kovan people also cannot board the train so 6-car trains is not enough.
    For the North South Line I feel that it is under-provisioned before the Thomson East Coast Line opens as it passes through a lot of major towns like Woodlands, Sembawang, Yishun and Ang Mo Kio but of course the situation improved after Thomson East Coast Line opens. But the Choa Chu Kang side of NSL still needs help considering that there are upcoming BTO in Choa Chu Kang and future Brickland area even NSL Yishun side still have BTO coming up in Canberra and Yishun so probably 6-car trains is still not enough. If I count NSL that is like 5 out of 6 MRT lines under-provisioned. TEL is still not under-provisioned as the line is still very new with the line not fully opened and train frequency not at its peak with 5 minutes currently.
    The only line that is planned properly is Cross Island Line which is ironically Singapore newest MRT line in 2030 with trains can potentially cater up to 8-car trains. Im very excited to look at the longer platforms and longer trains in the future which any MRT lines haven't have before and that is why Cross Island Line is my favourite MRT Line.

      8 car trains, wow. interesting. circle, downtown only has 3 car trains each, so crowded at start DT01, good that not many people boarded until newton. Circle line has the coolest aircon of all trains in singapore.

      3 car trains for the circle line because of construction constraints

    • @antant9523
      @antant9523 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@raymondloke circle line when it was originally the marina line was only supposed to serve the marina and downtown area so it was never intended to be a heavy rail. when they eventually become the circle line, tenders and documents for phase 1 would already be completed so they just proceed instead of going back to size up everything, which would delay things and also more cost for additional engineering study.
      downtown line started out as the downtown extension of the circle line, so it would originally be sized exactly as the circle line.
      but good that the govt realise 3 cars are not enough, so for future lines they increase it. TEL started with 4 even though they are planned as medium rail, while JRL has provision to upgrade to 4 when demand increase. CRL also have provision to upgrade from 6 to 8 in the future.

    • @garfieldandfriends1
      @garfieldandfriends1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well said. I'm quite annoyed that LTA is basically relying only on EWL for trips connecting to the CBD/City from the west. If they can afford to have 3 lines for the East, why not the west too? (Downtown line not counted since it only covered a single town in the west, Bukit Panjang) But the west side does have uneven planning layout for the most part between CCK/Jurong and city area. I believe the main reason there's lack of new lines connecting to the city from the west is there isn't much heartland estate area in the in-between sector, unlike the east where there's sufficient estate area all around. It will be a waste of cost to build a new one as most likely you have to build in-between stations in the 'dead zone' (e.g. Bukit Timah - small demand) or there isn't a much in-between zone in the west hasn't already been covered. Unless they try to build a express line parallel to DTL until to the beauty world then branch from there towards Bukit Batok west/north & Tengah to minimise the dead zone sector. If they really really want to save cost and not overburden the EWL, then they can try to build a DTL branch line from beauty world - tengah and not a new parallel express line lor.

    Did anyone mentioned about the high pitch and loud noise cause by MRT especially when it travel underground , or nobody realise the noise are causing harm to our ears since most people will be relatively less sensitive to sound as they aged.

    When the politicians brag.... when the engineers brag... when they were called implementation-failure... when they were called book-smart air-headed parrots... when they threaten others... others laughed at them
    The similar issues to their multi-brand and multi-country MRT system was solved only recently. Besides being in-denial of issues and problems, the issues were common throughout the world until recently. From power issues leadong to cascading failures (power trips, which many countries are still having for power transmission...) to voltage issues of multi-countries working together to grounding issues to multi-gauges issues to signalling-issues (almost always jurong-east, after solved, east-west line got extended to joo-koon and then to tuas), ... recent developments AC-airconditioning, air-ducting, include tension-control hinge tow, acceleration, braking, aerodynamics, ... but they are still lacking suspension and mounts and bracket angles which they are anglophile western university types and hardly chinese basic martial-arts. Still far from ideal of traditional-chinese basics.
    Not entirely to their credit but the current selection of contract after the MRT issues resolved and autonomous-bus-tram tests may mean accounting-finance spotlights...

      The combined effort of the engineer-hot-seat (spiritual-control psy-ops the engineers when they are at their appointed desks by ASEAN and the physical participation of G20 engineers) results in knowing the mental-spiritual states of G20 and the vulnerabilities and limitations of their technologies, including scheduling hierarchy and implementation. Revenge is to announce to all with free information and plus one and see if they can afford the time and money to upgrade-rectify all their stupid transit and power distribution before they get hit by the world against G20. China, India, ... part of G20 countries
