the way the phantom rushes to her and holds out his hands nearly breaks my heart. he seriously thought she was coming back for him and just ugh my feelings, they hurt
NewsieandAGeek omg ikr?? Just when u thought something good is gonna happen but turns out she just wants to leave him, and you're just like mehhhh and dannnnggggg urrrrrrghhhhh
This was perfect. I cried when Earl went down on his knees. When I saw Hugh Panaro and Samantha Hill this past spring, I cried so hard and uncontrollably that during the bows (when I was still sobbing) the actor playing Piangi smiled at me and so did a few others..... including Hugh Panaro!
Oh my god this is incredible. The way the he runs to Christine thinking he has gone back to her, his reaction when he realises she hasn't. Just heart breaking. Brilliant acting from Earl.
Wow... that was one of the most tender kisses I've seen between a Christine and a Phantom. Most of the time it just feels cold and dead between the two, but with this one you can understand why the Phantom would be so moved by Christine's sacrifice. You can almost see it in the Phantom's head how he realizes he can't keep Christine with him in darkness.
+Camilladilla I agree with you... and his reaction when he feels her touch his face is so perfect. No one has ever touched him there and it shocks him so much. I feel like he wanted to keep her more out of spite after she revealed him to everyone and denied his affection. Then he realized he was hurting the only person who ever did care for him.
Oh wow! I love the end of this! When he sees her and goes to her thinking she has come back to him. How much more heartbreaking it is that he's left alone. Wow.
Earl is so underrated. He is a brilliant actor who has really mastered his craft. From what i see on TH-cam, his Phantom is AMAZING but I've seen his Javert twice on broadway and it was INCREDIBLE.
I wasn't entirely sure why people kept claiming him to be the most emotional, or heart breaking Phantom, but I understand now! Dear gods, Earl's performance is a tear jerker!
I get emotional every time Christine returns to give back the ring. It breaks my heart watching him hesitating to take it and drops to his knees begging Christine not to leave.
Ok now.. It takes a LOT to move my attention away from Hugh Panaro or Michael Crawford, but this man...why am I just realizing? His tender MOTN slays me, and now, in this scene, his quiet elegance ( 1:52 -the way he says delight!! Gah!! ) with little bits of explosive crazy peppered in, ( 1:58 - holy moly!!! And 2:27 ) are genius! Then that dramatic, quiet, drawn-out lift of the gate after "be my guest sir"....His acting subtleties are just gorgeous to watch.I love how his "start a new life with me" sequence is staccato instead of flowing, and connected. ( 3:10-3:19 ). It ups the drama and tension. And 3:27 -the way he ends "return" and then slumps over the organ in utter distress. He makes me tear up. At the sound of Christine's tears at 4:51, they way he immediately reacts and turns to her, reminds you of his tenderness and how much he loves her...oh my gosh. I could go on and on about him. (You: "you HAVE!!!" Me: "oh, this is nothing" ) ;) I'll stop now, bc his face during the kiss, and the utter heartbreak that follows, would have me typing for hours, and the YT people would ban me from comments. :) But WOW, Earl Carpenter. Thanks for this upload!
I can’t tell you how happy this comment has made me. Earl has always been my favourite Phantom (and he’s such a lovely guy in real life). I have big love and appreciation for his Phantom, not only because he’s my fav and he’s my first one but also because of exactly what you said. Honestly I beg you write about him for hours😂 Would love to hear more, I rant about him too on YT😅😇
I...I..omg... just adore Earl's phantom! There is something soft and gentle about him! He and Ramin are my all time favourites!! I LOVE IT! I just love it!! OMG i need him to be the phantom again!
Oh wow I loved this one. I love how he goes down on his knees, and how he offers the ring back to her and she actually doubts for a few seconds before finally running of. Really well acted. Havent felt his pain this much since Michael Crawford.
I love how he goes after Raoul when he says "why make her lie to you." I almost laughed. I mean, what guy wouldn't go after his love's lover after saying something like that. lol
I don't think Earl is *quite* on the same level VOCALLY as some of the greats like John Owen Jones. But wow. just wow. His acting is FLAWLESS. I've seen this show live multiple times and watched countless bootlegs, and he still manages to choke me up as Christine leaves him.
A lot of people sure started coughing suddenly when Chistine left after he'd said he loves her... one might think they were trying to conceal the uncontrollable sobs...
I really do love that he almost forgot about his face, but when Christine touches it he remembers about that all of a sudden and hides it once again with the hand. And at 06:08: his face shows that he is positively surprised, happy, but immediately changes again like he is thinking: "It is impossible it is happening to me, I don't deserve this"
Wow, I love how he slams the doll down! lol. I love both of them. Rachel has always been one of my top favorites! :) And I agree with many others...what an emotional giving back of the ring! :'( Thanks so much for sharing!
Saw him in feb as Phantom...my gosh he is so good as Phantom!!! Like you said something soft and gentle about him, yet very deadly..And he emotionally kills me in final lair at the end.
I saw him play the phantom at the Edinburgh playhouse last year, and he was just amazing. His voice is just beautiful, also got to meet him afterwards and he was so nice to everyone :)
I KNOW!!! And just after music of the night when she rips the mask of, and he crawls along the floor...when he sang 'dreams of beauty' and looked over to the Christine doll as though he was dreaming about her :'( OMG!
Actually, I really love Earl Carpenter's voice. The emotion is there for sure and he puts a lot of his own flavor in it. Sure he doesn't have the most powerful or smooth voice, but who said all phantoms have to sing that way? Earl does something very different and beautiful to the phantom's voice and personality and that's why I love him.
Wow, I loved all the emotion Earl put into the phantom...just great. Ramin's interpretation also had a lot of emotion, but I think I don't like his performance as much because it's very easy to see the vulnerable side of his phantom throughout so the breakdown after PoNR doesn't seem to be as far of a leap emotionally. Earl's was so subtle yet powerful, I could feel all of the phantom's desperation and humanity pour out into the audience both here and during stranger than you dreamt it. Bravo!
I love this! I love the way he portrays the Phantom, and I especially love the way they acted out the part where she comes back to return the ring. Very different and I really like it. Though I must, I had a quiet giggle to myself at a couple of his parts, and I can't imagine the prop people would have been very happy with him at the way he treated the automaton - I actually felt quite sorry for the poor, unsuspecting object! What did she do to deserve a detached hand? LOL Love it.
Man, it would be absolutely awesome if there was some way to combine Earl's acting style with JOJ's singing. For me personally, that would be a near perfect phantom. :)
I agree with you. I think each actor brings something different to the phantom which makes you fall in love with them. Some you fall in love with their voice, others their acting. I agree that both Ramin and Michael bring vulnerability to the phantom and it is easy to fall in love with both their acting and their voice. I fell in love with Earl's acting, but his voice isn't too bad, either.
Earl is amazing, I saw him in Singapore as Javert 3 years ago. *CONTROVERSIAL OPINION INCOMING!!* His performance here in Phantom is actually 10X BETTER than JOJ! Especially the final lair scene, JOJ overacts in this particular scene!
seeing him play only the auctioneer in POTO25 and the bishop in Les Mis gave me the impression that he was very emotionless. I have never been so wrong in my life.
Anyone know who played Meg? I'm sure I've never seen that final moment played with such beautiful subtlety and realism. She created that final image without making it obvious that she was.
He seems all the way through like he's terrified of braking her, like she's some fragile little doll. Even here, though he's furious, he's still hesitant to touch her.
Please tell me there is someone out there, besides me, who thinks that Earl kinda sounds like Michael Crawford and John Owen Jones sometimes when he sings. I like his singing but ya gotta admit that at times he does sound like those two other Phantoms.
He's just made his West End debut three days ago :) I'm bit sad that JOJ will no longer perform as the phantom for quite a while (perhaps never again, according to JOJ himself). But in this business, people always come back, so I hope that's true for John too! Best wishes to Earl!
Earl is one of my favorite Phantoms in terms of his vocal performance, but I really enjoyed his physical performance here as well! I feel like he was more stiff in other clips I've seen...
Wow...what a cold Christine!! How could she turn her back on him!! He totally deserves better than that! Great final lair though on Earl's part - one of the best (would've been even better with a more sympathetic Christine...and the third kiss from the Stuttgart production ;D) And, yeah, I can admit that her coldness heightens the Phantom's distress and makes Earl's performance all the more powerful, but that doesn't mean I have to like it!
He played the Auctioneer in the opening of the 25th Anniversary Concert. I like him better as the Phantom! Well done,Earl!
the way the phantom rushes to her and holds out his hands nearly breaks my heart. he seriously thought she was coming back for him and just ugh my feelings, they hurt
NewsieandAGeek omg ikr?? Just when u thought something good is gonna happen but turns out she just wants to leave him, and you're just like mehhhh and dannnnggggg urrrrrrghhhhh
I know right?! When I saw that part, I was like "AHH! MY FEELS! >.
This is where I see myself in the future... Sobbing so hard that even the Phantom pities me...
Oh my god this is incredible. The way the he runs to Christine thinking he has gone back to her, his reaction when he realises she hasn't. Just heart breaking. Brilliant acting from Earl.

The "Christine I love you" in this one KILLS ME
Earl is so underrated. He is a brilliant actor who has really mastered his craft. From what i see on TH-cam, his Phantom is AMAZING but I've seen his Javert twice on broadway and it was INCREDIBLE.
He's brilliant! I wrote a novel for a comment, but I'm just so taken with his talent! I feel like a fool for not realizing before now!
I wasn't entirely sure why people kept claiming him to be the most emotional, or heart breaking Phantom, but I understand now! Dear gods, Earl's performance is a tear jerker!
yeah......hes the best since Michael.
Crawford is still the King of heartbreaking Phantoms but Earl sure comes close
I get emotional every time Christine returns to give back the ring. It breaks my heart watching him hesitating to take it and drops to his knees begging Christine not to leave.

You are so right, he is really, really good!
I...I..omg... just adore Earl's phantom! There is something soft and gentle about him! He and Ramin are my all time favourites!! I LOVE IT! I just love it!! OMG i need him to be the phantom again!
well... one of best giving the ring back scene I have seen...
THE. MOST. HEARTBREAKING. FINAL LAIR. EVER. D,: just the fact that he get down on his knees and tries to properly propose... Oh my God...
Yeah, that was good. He's like sooo....one last shot....please stay with me, no threats involved this time... :/
I mean, what guy wouldn't go after his love's lover after saying something like that. lol
I loved that..it's just what he would do..never seen that before.
6:53 onwards it looked like Raoul was really hanged and when he laid flat on the floor I thought he died on the spot.
Earl is one of my favorites he's so believable.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
the best.
Can we just talk about how electrifying Rachel's "have you gorged yourself at last" was?
I saw this at Edinburgh Playhouse two months ago, it was simply breathtaking! What a fantastic performance!
Is it weird that this has my favorite version of Meg holding the mask ever? I don't know why I love it so much but it just has quite an impact
Earl is amazing. He can make me cry every time I watch him. Bravo, Earl, bravo.
In March last year, I went to the West End to watch the Phantom of the Opera. I was fortunate. Earl Carpenter was brilliant.
Definitely one of my favorite phantoms. VERY BEAUTIFUL final lair parformance.
I really do love that he almost forgot about his face, but when Christine touches it he remembers about that all of a sudden and hides it once again with the hand. And at 06:08: his face shows that he is positively surprised, happy, but immediately changes again like he is thinking: "It is impossible it is happening to me, I don't deserve this"
His facial expressions, starting at 2:04, are exactly what were needed for the phantom.
Wow, I love how he slams the doll down! lol. I love both of them. Rachel has always been one of my top favorites! :) And I agree with many others...what an emotional giving back of the ring! :'( Thanks so much for sharing!
this video in particular helped spark my phantom obsession…how can it be ten years old?!
Earl Carpenter isn't really my favorite phantom vocally, but my God he acts the hell out of that role.
Earl Carpenter :) My favourite Phantom
Mine too!
Saw him in feb as Phantom...my gosh he is so good as Phantom!!! Like you said something soft and gentle about him, yet very deadly..And he emotionally kills me in final lair at the end.
WOW this is my favorite!! You can see how much the phantom doesn't want to really hurt Christine and how much he does love her LOVE LOVE LOVE IT
I love staccato 'Monsieur, I bid you welcome'. Hearkens back to Crawford
ohhh i wanna give Earl a hug... oh don't cry dear, i'm here
I cried every time. His performance is so heart-breaking
I just saw him in Southampton last night. He was AMAZING! His performance was heartbreaking at the end.
This show is very emotional
I saw him play the phantom at the Edinburgh playhouse last year, and he was just amazing. His voice is just beautiful, also got to meet him afterwards and he was so nice to everyone :)
His performance feels so real, it is a shame that he is so underrated 😔
I KNOW!!! And just after music of the night when she rips the mask of, and he crawls along the floor...when he sang 'dreams of beauty' and looked over to the Christine doll as though he was dreaming about her :'( OMG!

Absolutely couldn’t agree more!👏
I think this is one of my favorite endings I have seen. makes me cry EVERYTIME.
That was literally the saddest final lair scene I have ever saw :(
Inspector Javert finally learns to love
Wow he's GREAT he has his own way of acting :) I liked him
Yeah I saw him to in March, HE WAS AMAZING! Very soft yet very deadly!! :D
god i would kill to see sierra boggess and earl carpenter in phantom ...
Earl Carpenter does such an amazing Phantom. He and Ramin Karimloo are my top two phantoms. They both put so much emotion in their performances.
Bravo!
AND NOW!!! my wish comes true...haha, love it.
The way how she YEETED that bouquet tho 🤣 1:48
oh man, i just died. He is the absolute best.
I love this! I love the way he portrays the Phantom, and I especially love the way they acted out the part where she comes back to return the ring. Very different and I really like it. Though I must, I had a quiet giggle to myself at a couple of his parts, and I can't imagine the prop people would have been very happy with him at the way he treated the automaton - I actually felt quite sorry for the poor, unsuspecting object! best final lair i've seen. ever.
And he totally broke my heart when christine (sofia) gave him the ring back and he ran after her and went down on his knees...gaaahhhhh!
Earl Carpenter is perfection.
oh my god it's fantastic!!!
Such a wonderful act!Almost made me cry😢
Man, it would be absolutely awesome if there was some way to combine Earl's acting style with JOJ's singing. For me personally, that would be a near perfect phantom. :)
exactly
Damn, Earl is a great phantom!
I agree with you. I think each actor brings something different to the phantom which makes you fall in love with them. Some you fall in love with their voice, others their acting. I agree that both Ramin and Michael bring vulnerability to the phantom and it is easy to fall in love with both their acting and their voice. I fell in love with Earl's acting, but his voice isn't too bad, either.
earl makes me especially SAD OH MY GOD
Earl Carpenter was so good as Phantom. Hope, he comes back someday.
Thank you! It's wonderful!
Aaand cue gross sobbing. Such a marvellous Final Lair! :')
I know hahaha! I always find it funny when the Phantom throws the doll. It's scary... in an amusing way.
me too
Awwwwww! That was the sweetest kiss ever...X33333333333
Wow!!! He is right up there with Ramin in my book now!! :D
Thanks for posting!!
2:07 I love how hes all giddy and laughing at raouls plea then when he says love he's breaking down mentally and emotionally
I'm sorry, I burst out laughing when Raoul just fell over. What a wimp XD
This is an AMAZING lair. I really want to see EC in the UK tour now...
The bit where he tries to give the ring back to Christine is so sad :'-(
Best final lair EVER!!
One of the most tragic phantoms
Earl, BRAVO!!!
ear carpenter, ben lewis , Hugh Panara, Gary Maurer, n warlow always get me crying
Not controversial in my eyes- love his Phantom to bits
I can't wait to see him in London!
seeing him play only the auctioneer in POTO25 and the bishop in Les Mis gave me the impression that he was very emotionless.
Very interesting thought. But since he hasn't had affection from a woman in his entire life, it explains why he doesn't understand what they are like.
i can't tell if those people are crYINg or coughing
One thing I love about this, is when Earl backs away from the kiss and spreads his hands like, "WTF?"
Emotional phantom.
Please tell me there is someone out there, besides me, who thinks that Earl kinda sounds like Michael Crawford and John Owen Jones sometimes when he sings. I like his singing but ya gotta admit that at times he does sound like those two other Phantoms.
He does sound like MC and JOJ sometime!
You monster, Christine. You monster.
Earl Carpenter is singing Javert, and Ramin Val Jean in the 2013 Toronto production of Les Mis this fall!!!
I love Earl's version of the Phantom. He's so psychotic!
Omg yes......and the all i ask of you he does in point of no return.....
06:10 the phantom is like: OMG CONTACT!!
"Make your choice" He breaks my heart. Remake that dreadful film. With Earl. He's extraordinary.
I feel like he was more stiff in other clips I've seen...
do you think it was okay for me to hit my computer then convulse into sobs because FEELINGS because EARL BLOODY CARPENTER!!!!
Ilove you somuch miss
ITS NOT LIKE IM SOBBING OR ANYTHINGGG
Wow...what a cold Christine!! How could she turn her back on him!! He totally deserves better than that! Great final lair though on Earl's part - one of the best (would've been even better with a more sympathetic Christine...and the third kiss from the Stuttgart production ;D)
And, yeah, I can admit that her coldness heightens the Phantom's distress and makes Earl's performance all the more powerful, but that doesn't mean I have to like it!
How on earth is Christine a monster?

Raoul u ok
