Here is a total rebuild of a vintage Holton baritone saxophone neck. The neck had a pulldown and cracked the brass on both sideside. The octave key was bend and the neck had many dents.

What kind of chemical bath was that at 12:50? And what was the purpose?

Probably to make it look aged so aesthetically it matches everything else.

Jurjen, I'm trying to learn soldering and I'm using the 'Stay-Brite' silder solder, which is 96 Tin:4 Silver. do you have an opinion about using this to repair Sax necks and Posts? What solder do you prefer? Thank you! I really appreciate your helpful videos!:)

KennethGSaxRepair, stay-bright works the best on silverplated instrument because it stays bright :-) I use different kind of solder, depending of the repair. so experiment with different solder and see what works best for you.

Thank you!:) anything you give is very helpful and very appreciated! yes, i did noticed it 'stayed bright', but it seemed not too obvious if the connection was very smooth and well fit. Do you have advice on hard solder vs soft solder? Also, in your 'quicktip' video on the neck tenon fit, I tried Google translate and that was interesting, but did not help in understanding your advice. i'll send a question on that video. I cannot thank you enough for sharing your knowledge. You are an inspiration! :)

thank you for this wonderful video! It would be very helpful and interesting to add a voice over explaining these steps in detail. I have a sax neck that is similarly damaged and I am researching how to repair it.

i think the uncensored and practical repair techniques are honest. Clearly this was not meant to demo more critical repair skills as in saving a valuable neck. I've done the economy lay on patch at cracked stressed areas on student horns. A vid showing a brazed or lead free flush patch nearly invisible, for cosmetic reasons, comes to mind. So many possibilities and nuanced aesthetically pleasing outcomes to show the troops. Fixing old mic pic up holes are a nice customer service to video. I like the fabricated, soldering assembly, hold down springs too; in addition to the banding wire tie downs.
