Fire Happen by use old fan in side bed room.

This Video I translated from a Japanese Video and I want to show about incident of Fire Happen to an Old Electric Fan that was used for a long time but was never maintained.
I hope this video will help or will remind all of you after watching this video can protect and prevent the fire.

There were no arc flash breakers protecting this fault. Most likely this fan was NOT listed and if listed had sub par internal parts that were not tested properly enough by the listing agency. How do I know. 44 years electrician and almost ten years as an electrical inspector.

So if I have modern fuses and I bought my fan at a reputable place, this shouldn't happen? Because I keep one running 24/7 so this would be bad. One stopped once and it did get hot but didn't ignite. The plastic melted though in some spots around the motor... since then I'm using my fancy expensive fan for constant operation and a cheap one to keep me cool...

@@user-lv7ph7hs7l it all depends on the listing agency wether it was ETL or UL etc. I have found out from electrical engineers that reverse engineer lights, fans etc and they’ve told me that the materials in even OSHA listed products are being found to be sub par. Listing agencies are suppose to test the product and all sub parts within the final listed product. That’s not being done. With all that being said mistakes are made as we’re all human. In residential environments it’s required in new construction to install AFCI breakers to protect from arcing events one would see if a product were starting to over heat as at some point the over heating would turn to the conductors arcing. The issue here is timing and at one point does the AFCI breaker trip….is it before the first starts or after.

I still use a fan like this, and it's 42 years old. I've had no problems with it at all. But this video makes me think that it might be time for a replacement anyway.

I wouldn't worry. Most of new ones are cheaply made in China and seem sketchy at best.

I used to have one from the 80s that was more like an industrial fan with steel blades, far more airflow than these cheap plastic ones

Why you should NEVER leave a fan on... ceiling fans included... when you're not home. They (actually, their MOTORS) do NOTHING but heat up the room if you're not there. The air circulating around your body makes you FEEL cooler, but again, if you're NOT THERE...

This video can be used as an example to why maintaining a fan is important. Cleaning out a fan is a very important thing to do if it is very dusty. A lack of oil will impact a fan very badly as well
