Super useful working-through of how/why to buy ipads without breaking the bank. I appreciate the focus of the coverage, without unnecessary diversions into side topics or other filler. Your on-screen personality is winning too -- friendly and intelligent, not bombastic or cloying as some presenters can come across. I still get plenty of life out of my 2017 Ipad Pro, which I use for home production and gigging with several bands. Love that thing. Thanks for the info.
These days you can get brand new lower end iPads for pretty cheap as well, literally between 300 and 500, however, for that price you can also get a used iPad pro so it's up to you, both will work fine.
Would you say an iPad Pro is better to get for music,?cuz idk if the iPad Air and other that are not pro sometimes don’t work for audio unit apps. I might be wrong but some music apps don’t work for some iPads. But an iPad Pro is like a forsure thing that all apps would work. And would you say space is a problem. I have 2tb on my iPhone and I have alot apps & soundpack samples. So forsure the 2tb works well. But the ones that are lower in GB probably take up space right away.
As long as you're running a pretty recent version of iOS all apps work across all iPad devices. The reason for that is because it's all Apple's software and hardware, no 3rd parties in between. I recommend a pro if you're more serious about music production but if you're just toying around and learning then you don't need a pro quite yet.
That's awesome DougNak! Same here, I've used Gazelle a few times and even bought some older devices for family members and every single time they thought I bought them a new device because it was in such good condition :)
My next device will be an M1 or M2 with at least 1TB. I purchased the Apogee Boom but my 2020 USB-C iPad Pro wouldn’t power it. When I hooked it up to my wife’s 2021 Thunderbolt USB-C iPad Pro, it powered.
Unfortunately you can't install apps to external hdds yet but you can install sample libraries from certain apps to external hdds like puresynth and GSi piano.
My ipad mini 5th gen (ebay) feels plenty future proof to me. :) I've had good luck just using craigslist in the past to buy ipads and iphones from someone local. It's been a few years since I've needed to buy one though.
Well bit a difference there, there's every reason to get the latest and greatest awesome apps on iOS, but not so much of a reason to get the most top of the line device since the older devices are already so fast :)
Although I did buy the new M1 chip iPad pro. I've still got my 2017 iPad Pro. and it still does everything that I want it to do. it's just the M1 iPad pro does a lot more . My son just picked up a 2017 iPad pro 250gb for £250 quid off eBay. Yes they may be old but at that price it makes me feel like buying another one😉
I have the iPad Air 3rd gen. I don’t want to upgrade because it has the headphone Jack and lightening cable🤷🏾♂️. It still works perfectly. Using an old iPad means you can find cheaper cables, more accessories ( I have a focusrite itrack that I can connect stuff to), etc… 💪🏾
There are far superior android tablets for less than half the price. Problem is, I have tons of instruments I purchased for my ipad pro wich is dead after only 5 years!
Yep, the amount of useful music apps in app store dwarfs the android store, mostly because there's more people willing to pay for apps in the apple store.
Great video! I'm still rockin' an iPad Air 2, but iOS 15 is as far as it goes. It feels like I've had it forever!
Thanks Moby! Yah I still have pics of my iPad Air 2 as well! postimg.cc/ThL1C4cv

Thanks so much Andrew! That's great you're still on the 2017 man, such an amazing device :)
What about ipad 10th gen

I had the iPad Pro 2017 just upgrade it to the iPad Mini 6.
Very nice Carlos! Both are excellent devices :)

The only apps that eat up the space are sample based apps like Sample Tank and Pure Synth.
I’ve bought several refurbed iPads and iPhones and always found them just like new.

Ahh very cool! Yah those M1s are tempting!
Just buy a powered usb dongle
I have a 11 inch 2018 ipad pro with 64 gb + lte. those m1 ipads sound tempting! but probably should wait until this one no longer runs apps
Still on the 2018 as well, those m1s are tempting!
Hey Vortex. How do I contact you again about retrieving yesterday's win for the code or information that I won? This is Big Blue. Thanks.
Hey bro hit us up at mobilemusicprocontact @ Gmail .com
I have ipad 32gb 7th Gen but the memory is getting full so quickly not letting install more app, if we add more memory can we install app in it?
Unfortunately you can't install apps to external hdds yet but you can install sample libraries from certain apps to external hdds like puresynth and GSi piano.
Didn’t realize Gsi piano ran from external. Now I’m more interested in it!

Nice!! Crazy how craigslist is still around lol.
I agree there isn’t much reason to get the latest and greatest on iOS.

@@MobileMusicPro well that’s what I meant. Device. Your video is more about the iPad.

Hah that's a great deal for a 2017! Glad to hear you're enjoying your M1 though as well :)

All great points for sure! Glad you're 3rd gen Air is still hanging in there, these devices really are meant to last :)
