    Colin,
    Three years on from the time you made this recording, I wanted to thank you. First for the fantastic lesson of one of the most beautiful guitar pieces I’ve heard. To be able to share it as I’m doing makes me incredibly satisfied. Second, thank you for your introduction. Health care providers the world over would applaud if they heard your unselfish and graceful thoughts.

    This has been my favorite song for 35 years. I've played it well until now. You're teaching me incredible nuances I hadn't understood before. And btw, your voice here sounds a bit of Sting singing JT. Beautiful. Thank you.

      Definitely. Of the few videos I have seen on youtube, Taylor just strums while singing, and only does finger picking embellishments between vocal lines. This dude definitely fancied it up a notch or two

      To be fair, JT does vary the nuances across different performances (I guess when you've played a song 100's of times, it's bound to happen) and my 'interpretation' was from one typical performance of his. I'm sure he won't mind if you introduce some of your own tweaks ;-)

    I like this, and I'm sort of in the John Renborn tradition on steel strings... so I don't like everybody as I'm trained both classically and in jazz scales and chords. It was the finger picking of these fellows and perhaps Chad & Jeremy, Peter & Gordon, Donovan Leitch, the Beatles, etc. that got me going in the first place, and for me it's going " back to my roots " as the expression goes, to work on this type of playing.... not nearly as hard as Segovia, John Williams, Pat Metheny, Jim Hall, etc. It comes to fruition sooner, shall we say, and is a nice way to use the guitar as vocal accompaniement without getting drowned in b9's, b5's and diminished and altered chords. Chet Atkins used to say, after hearing jazz players, " Yeah, but can your grandmother sing it when the song is over ? " He had a point... So, carry on, it seems good, and hopefully it is rewarding enough for you as well.

  • @dtowndano

    In a few video's (and tablature) I've seen the capo is on the 1st fret. I don't know if it would change any of the chords you illustrate ( and so eloquently play) but wanted to ask. Thanks for the very helpful video of this very distinct JT song.

    • @wagsume5293
      @wagsume5293 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should be able to move the capo to any fret with no changes in the fingering. It would just bring the key of the song being play down a half step. Mostly it’s done for the singers sake usually

      6:50 u Show the First beginning of the Verse with that chord Progression from g to f sharp over d and then to a
      And at 13 minutes u leave the f sharp out and just play the d but i got it down now
      Repeatet the Video like 30 times since yesterday
      And now I just have to practice on the pieces
      Apart from that one thing i was struggling with it is a outstanding lesson
