Tomer made the right play, but he missed the cool play: use Zealous Conscripts to put Assault Suit on Haunt of Hightower. Then Haunt can't attack Tomer, can't be sacrificed, and can't be destroyed (thanks to Darksteel Plate). And since Tomer still controls the Assault Suit, even if Richard plays another creature, he can't move the Assault Suit. Tomer can then swing the massive Haunt into Crim, and almost completely seal Richard's commander out of the game.
Hello Commander, my old friend Tomer wins die roll again, Crim is here the season, Seth already politicing, Here in the season of CC. Edit: Corrected Crime to Crim
Lowkey kinda missing tom, never thought id say it... he was just the right amount of spike and he had the most uproarious laugh whenever someone punted the game away
@@silomurphy4451 For a while yes, I felt the same way. There were moments with tom that were pretty amazing as well though when he would burst into laughter and it would become the highlight of the episode, and his decks were at least somewhat interesting. The only gripe i had with tom is his opinions on a lot of cards were very strong (like akromas memorial, thinking its an absolutely broken card) which i did not agree with.
MTGGoldfish haha yeah it’s a strange card I only had a hunch it worked like that when you where talking about in the wrap up because I used to play a consulate crack down fog deck and being able to fog carnage tyrant with it was very important
Nope... this has been answered 3 times already but 0 toughness is a state based check that takes priority to the presence of -1/-1 and +1/+1 counters on the same permanent. It dies before they can be removed so it dies with all its counters as that was the last information it had to work with.
1:06:17 Why did Seth get the thopter tokens here? Shouldn't he get none, since Black Sun's Zenith puts -1/-1 counters on creatures, cancelling out the +1/+1 counters on the Hangarback Walker and making it die with zero counters on it? Is that how it always works or is it a MTGO thing?
It's a weird rule. +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters do cancel each other out, but when enough counters are put on a creature that it dies the death happens at the same time as the counter canceling, so the Thopers still come (also works this way with Presist).
TIL Hangaback Walker produces tokens when dying to -1/-1 counters. Could've sworn the counters would negate each other and Hangarback would die as a sad -5/-5 with no +1/+1 counters on it
It's a confusing rule. Basically, if enough counters are put on a creature that it dies the +1/+1 counters and -1/-1 counters happen and the creature dying happen at the same time, so you still get the thopters. If the creature does die in the process than the counters are canceled out.
Awesome game. Haunt sure was a beast. Also, just as an aside, Dread Cacodemon takes its name from Greek, where Cacodemon basically just means demon/evil spirit. It uses the same root as Cacophony (a jarring or discordant mixture of sounds) caco- means "bad" or "unpleasant".
@@MTGGoldfish found it. 704.7 If a state-based action results in a permanent leaving the battlefield at the same time other state-based actions were performed, that permanent’s last known information is derived from the game state before any of those state-based actions were performed. Example: You control Young Wolf, a 1/1 creature with undying, and it has a +1/+1 counter on it. A spell puts three -1/-1 counters on Young Wolf. Before state-based actions are performed, Young Wolf has one +1/+1 counter and three -1/-1 counters on it. After state-based actions are performed, Young Wolf is in the graveyard. When it was last on the battlefield, it had a +1/+1 counter on it, so undying will not trigger.
TheRedGauntlet it’s a really odd ruling but the ability checks the counters the moment before it dies so technically it has three before it died (before the counters where put on it)
sevenguy7777777 it’s not odd. It dies in the same check it’d remove counters with dying taking precedence. You cannot remove the counters once it’s in the yard.
Alaric Paley yes - hangarback dies in the same state-based action check that cancels the counters out. Last Known Information from before it died sees it has counters on it. Same interaction as Undying. Check rule 704.7 for confirmation.

Dear god no! We don't need a spike like that in the crew. Her mocking laughter always tore right through me and I'm glad she left the regular team. Much better without Jen I think

Wouldn't Martyr's Choice be a better card to have over Circle of Despair? Same effect, but no mana cost for its ability.
At 1:10:00 could Tomer play Rec Sage targeting Grieves, play Zealous Conscripts targeting Hightower, attack and then sac it to High Market?
I guess it didn't matter in the end
Why did the hangerbackwalker trigger? -1 and +1 cancel each other out and it have just 3 -1 counters left on it when it died.

Because it’s Tomer. That would have required both foresight and math.
Cuz he’s bad
Because Tomer isn't very good at playing
Some of it is deck unfamiliarity. Some.
Can we get deck lists, or are they covered in the recent deck techs?
Tomer Tomer Tomer. Kiki combo again? I have learned to respect the Haunt of Hightower.

Caca is the root for caco from PIE meaning poop. Fun facts for you. Cacophony’s root is quite literally poopy sounding.

I love that Tomer had infinite mana in hand on turn 5 and could have killed everything except Seth's stuff.
