I'm Igbo from Nigeria and as a child, my parents would say we are Jews. But since the October 7th incident. I have done a lot of digging of the Jewish people and have seen many similarities between my people and other Jews of the world. I had a black friend who came from Nigeria to NYC (who I gave clothes to because he came to work the first day with shoes that didn’t fit him and wore the same clothes to work every day), he started working at my construction company as a laborer. He told me that in Africa they told him to stay away black Americans and that they think we’re no good. He was surprised I was so well spoken because he was told he wouldn’t understand us 😂 It was a culture shock for him seeing me smoking weed and hearing the non mainstream rap we listened to.. so I do understand that people can see the norms of a different culture and think they might be bad people. For Black History Month, I wanted to have a discussion on Jews of Africa because I grew up with Prince of Egypt, Joseph King of Dream, and The Queen of Sheba. So, I did a collaboration with my college's BSU, and I learned so much from that. What I didn't know is that the Kingdom of Israel went to Africa, and that conisize what I believe that The Arc of Convent is in Africa and it explains why during The Civil Rights Black and Jews ✡️ work together. Thank you for having this conversation. I am having to reconcile this now. I can't begin to wrap my head around it, but the genealogy makes sense. My folks are Igbo/Yoruba, Spanish(Iberian Peninsula), French, German, and Polish. All of our last namea reflect Ashkenazi/Sephardi names. I never felt comfortable in church although I went and wanted to learn everything I could, but for me, there was always something missing. I started gravitating towards Jewish people since I was 6 when I had a friend who was Jewish in first grade. I always wanted to go to Synagogue. I ended up playing a gig in a reform Synagogue and I felt so welcomed. Jewish guys and Arab guys were always interested in me, and I always gravitated towards them as well as Latin folks from my diaspora who are most likely part of thr dispersion. I have begun the process of converting. Its an interesting experience. So glad you all are talking about this.

@elijahedwards6571 Jewish and Jews are not the same. Those words are not interchangeable. They are not the same people. Ashkenazi aren't Jews. In order to be a Jew, you must descend from Judah or Israel (Jacob), depending on the context and the time period. Ashkenaz, the ancestor of the Askenazi (they're his namesake), doesn't descend from either of them. So they can't be Jews. Nowhere in history, can you point to any propaganda, that Jewish people owned everything in Germany in order for people to attack their establishments. There are newspapers in Georgia, like the Southeast Georgian, that had ads in them with Jewish people asking for help from starvation and being killed and mistreated as early as 1913. The 13th Tribe by Arthur Kossler (check spelling) has some good information about how the Zionists and the Jewish are connected. From Hebrews to Negroes, even if you don't agree with the opinions in the book, his studies and findings on genetics and ancestry are impeccable. From Babylon to Timbuktu, Rudolph R. Windsor, is another good history of the Jews. If you're serious, that's more than enough to get you started and pique your interest.

As a European Ashkenazi, I happen to be able to recognize familiar traits in American Jews although I've never crossed the pond. That's normal. There's nothing abnormal about recognizing such traits, and there is nothing bad in recognizing they exist. What's wrong is to discriminate on the base of such traits, to consider some to be a sign of superiority or whatnot. Americans first and foremost have an experience with Ashkenazi descended Jews, it's only normal they'd associate the Ashkenazi look with Jews. It's not because of racism or bad will. If you'd ask local Igbo populations what Jews look like, they'll most likely describe local Igbo Jews.

I have done a lot of digging of the Jewish people and have seen many similarities between my people and other Jews of the world. I had a black friend who came from Nigeria to NYC (who I gave clothes to because he came to work the first day with shoes that didn’t fit him and wore the same clothes to work every day), he started working at my construction company as a laborer. Thank you for having this conversation. I am having to reconcile this now. I can't begin to wrap my head around it, but the genealogy makes sense. My folks are Igbo/Yoruba, Spanish(Iberian Peninsula), French, German, and Polish. All of our last namea reflect Ashkenazi/Sephardi names. I never felt comfortable in church although I went and wanted to learn everything I could, but for me, there was always something missing. I started gravitating towards Jewish people since I was 6 when I had a friend who was Jewish in first grade. I always wanted to go to Synagogue. I ended up playing a gig in a reform Synagogue and I felt so welcomed. Jewish guys and Arab guys were always interested in me, and I always gravitated towards them as well as Latin folks from my diaspora who are most likely part of thr dispersion. I have begun the process of converting. Its an interesting experience. So glad you all are talking about this.

I think what this conversation really showed is that the divide and conquer tactics are still in effect. The Jewish guy is right to feel a type of way about his race is being portrayed just as blacks are. @elijahedwards6571 Jewish and Jews are not the same. Those words are not interchangeable. They are not the same people. Ashkenazi aren't Jews. In order to be a Jew, you must descend from Judah or Israel (Jacob), depending on the context and the time period. Ashkenaz, the ancestor of the Askenazi (they're his namesake), doesn't descend from either of them. So they can't be Jews. Nowhere in history, can you point to any propaganda, that Jewish people owned everything in Germany in order for people to attack their establishments. There are newspapers in Georgia, like the Southeast Georgian, that had ads in them with Jewish people asking for help from starvation and being killed and mistreated as early as 1913. (Hitler must've had a time machine.) I can continue but it's a lot of typing. The point is, dude sounds real smooth and informed but he's spouting a lot of lies.

@elijahedwards6571 absolutely! The Bible is a great source for the history of the Jews. Visit the Holocaust museum in DC and actually read the information and don't get caught up in the imagery. The 13th Tribe by Arthur Kossler (check spelling) has some good information about how the Zionists and the Jewish are connected. From Hebrews to Negroes, even if you don't agree with the opinions in the book, his studies and findings on genetics and ancestry are impeccable. From Babylon to Timbuktu, Rudolph R. Windsor, is another good history of the Jews. If you're serious, that's more than enough to get you started and pique your interest.
Rudy, in 7:10: "Mental colonization of adopting [a superior] mentality" is not the reason American Jews might say "I look Jewish, or you don't looke Jewish".
The reason is much simpler: the vast majority of American Jews are Ashkenazi and it just so happens that Ashkenazim, like every other people or tribe or other multigenerational in-group often have phenotypical characters that sometimes stand out. As a European Ashkenazi, I happen to be able to recognize familiar traits in American Jews although I've never crossed the pond.
That's normal. There's nothing abnormal about recognizing such traits, and there is nothing bad in recognizing they exist. What's wrong is to discriminate on the base of such traits, to consider some to be a sign of superiority or whatnot.
Americans first and foremost have an experience with Ashkenazi descended Jews, it's only normal they'd associate the Ashkenazi look with Jews. It's not because of racism or bad will.
If you'd ask local Igbo populations what Jews look like, they'll most likely describe local Igbo Jews.
