I wish more people knew what you can do outside of the parks. So many people don’t realize that you can just head in to any resort, and there is SO much to do. Great way to save money without losing any of the magic!

So true Haley! The parks are great, but the resorts are pretty amazing too! Hanging out at Animal Kingdom Lodge is definitely worth an afternoon!

On our last trip we did what I hope will become a family tradition for our resort day. For lunch we went to the All-Star Movies resort for that amazing cinnamon bun bacon cheeseburger. That meal ended up being the family's favorite meal of the trip, kids included. Afterwards we caught a bus to the MK and did a monorail snack crawl. At each of the monorail resorts we picked out a cupcake/mini pie/dole whip treat and then looked for hidden mickeys whilst enjoying our treats. After returning to the MK we caught a ferry over to the Wilderness Lodge and enjoyed dinner (and an amazing campfire cupcake!) at the Roaring Fork. Absolutely fantastic day!

YES we love having a resort day! We usually go anti-schedule on that day. We sleep in, go to the pool, and usually don't have any dining reservations unless it's much later in the day or evening. Sleeping in is key on our resort day! It refuels us for the rest of the week (and our feet).

LOVED this video, AJ! And I think you have a new series on your hands. Perhaps do a series of "Resort Day" vids, whether it's an individual resort (like Fort Wilderness) or a grouping (like the Monorail ones) and talk about the different meals/snacks you can have at each, along with various activities.

My family definitely schedules a resort day, always for the last full day of our stay before leaving. If we have a late flight out on our departure day, then we also spend the morning and as much of the afternoon as possible at our resort before our final departure. Usually, full days at the parks are exhausting and run very late at night for us, meaning that packing late at night or early in the morning can be hectic and exhausting after we're already exhausted from the last day at the park. A resort day, for us, is a day of rest and winding down, and it allows us a more relaxed time in packing. Also, after the emotional highs of being in the parks -- yes, even for my teen kids, who still love the parks -- a resort day allows us a gentler descent from those highs, to still enjoy some Disney in a more relaxed state, rather than getting the sudden cold-shower of immediately heading to the airport and flying home. (Another, albeit very expensive, alternative to a sharp departure from Disney World has been to make a transition for a day or two to visit Universal Orlando. In that case, we still have a resort day at Disney World, but when we leave, rather than head to the airport, we move to Universal Orlando and enjoy a shorter, post-Disney-vacation vacation there. It's fun but without the emotional hold that Disney exerts on us, which makes going home afterward even easier.)

Even if you’re not staying there, the Boardwalk seems like a great place to relax on a resort day or after a day at the parks. There’s quite a bit to do there and it’s not jam packed like Disney Springs.

Our last trip was 6 nights. We flew in, had dinner and went to Disney Springs the first night, went to breakfast and MNSSHP the next and for the next four days rope dropped to closed all four parks with a 5yr old and a 3yr old. After walking 50 miles with overstimulated kids and no breaks in between, we will now be planning a minimum of 10 days for our visits or else we will not be going :-) the resort/rest day(s) are invaluable. I’m not as young as I used to be!

White Chocolate we wanted to do afternoon breaks but we figured that with the distance that the Pop Century bus station was from every gate, travel time, whatever we planned to do at the resort, etc, we were killing anywhere from 90mim to 2hrs in travel alone so it wasn’t efficient enough to go back to the hotel. That’s why from now on we’re just going to have to plan entire days dedicated to rest.

The out door movie screenings at the resorts do not get enough love. It was so amazing to leave the busy park early and chill on a blanket with snacks and watch “The Princess and the Frog” at Port Orleans under the stars. We was in the resort for 2 weeks so it was nice to have some down time one night.

Our trips are normally 7-8 days, so we try to have water park and resort days as breaks to re-charge. Water parks make for a great break, and if you are park-hopping they are just a small upcharge to your tickets, totally worth it to keep your options open...

Went on my first WDW trip this past January. Been to DL DLP and TDL before, but had never had a stay longer than 4 days before- so didn’t even think about needing a resort day, especially because we booked at ASM. BIG MISTAKE. After a few days in our 7 night/6 day tripwe desperately needed sleep, especially because we found if we slept in even an extra 30 mins on park days the QS and bus lines were crazy. Especially regretted not taking a resort day because we got upgraded to AOA. Spent our last MK day exploring monorail resorts. Will not make that mistake next time; and will definitely have a resort day

I love my resort stay and to resort hop! there is so much to see. first timers can start with the monorail resorts. my usually stay on Cresent Lake, at Beach Club, so i've got the best pool! I never use my park multi-park pass on my first or last day. and if I stay for 6 or 7 days, I pick the day in the middle as my hopper day. so much good food, Wilderness Lodge has so much to see, too. and yet, it is so great to just kick back, swim, hang out on the grounds, roomservice pizza, chill out and nap.
so... without spending my park passes on first, last, and middle day, I can see so much (Animal Kingdom and Wilderness Lodge are like parks themselves.) and save some real money.

Stay at the yacht or beach club! The shared pool area is like a mini water park with a lagoon, slides, and sand bottom pools. They also have a pirate ship and beach area and it was surprising quite empty during the day (though I’m sure this isn’t always the case). We spent pretty much the entire day out there and it was both fun and relaxing.

My boyfriend and I are at Port Orleans French Quarter right now. We stayed at a non-Disney hotel the night before checking in here (and have our own car). We had pre-checked in online, giving noon as our arrival time, of course knowing the room wouldn't be ready. We left our other hotel at 11:30, then drove to Wilderness Lodge to walk all over and explore. Chatted with some Cast Members at Artist Point, then went to Geyser Point for a fantastic outdoor lunch that was served by a waiter, and included an alcoholic beverage. But the waiter said all of that would still only be a "quick service" credit on our Dining Plan - what an amazing and surprising deal, and delightful! After a couple hours, we then drove to the Polynesian, got our Dole Whip, and did another hour of wandering. By then we'd been notified that our room was ready, so we got here around 4:00, then took the river boat down to Disney Springs for our reserved Table Service meal at Raglan Road. It was a fantastic way to start off our Disney stay! Doing another Resort Day (and Sanaa) on Friday!

He enjoyed that time alone too-away from parents and little ones. We spent the day with the young kids at Caribbean beach pool and bar and definitely watched the movie - with more rum punch 👏😋😀 . The two times before we didn’t take a day off-we were fine but I was a lot younger too!!!

You should do a video with information on WDW resorts that have Community Halls like Saratoga Springs, Old Key West, etc. many guest don’t know that they exists and they are great places to go to do crafts, movie and board game rentals that are complimentary, as well as getting sporting equipment, and some even have video games to play, etc. a great place to sort of take a break also great refuge for a rainy day.

We are a couple without kids (yet) and we don't typically take a day completely out of the park. The cost of that one day's park hopper isn't so much that it would be a big savings for us. What we typically do, however, is plan a day with no big dining reservations and sometimes no or minimal fast passes, then relax and play it by ear. Time by the pool in the morning, dinner at Disney springs, shopping, and we usually pop into a park for a couple of hours when we want to ride something (usually Star Tours!)

AJ, YOU ARE SO SPOT ON!! We plan very carefully... we will do 3 parks in one day, Just hitting rides we like. So, every 2nd -3rd day we go to the parks (max 3 days sometimes only 2 days out of the 7). With a car there are so many things to do at the Disney resorts as AJ mentioned and ton more worth exploring... even if you are not staying on Disney property! Universal is fun for a day or evening, downtown Orlando is a great time, many great restraunt and tourist experiences off property around Orlando(trip advisor)... Learn how to Sky dive indoors, book air boat rides 1/2 hour outside Orlando, Visit the Cape, take a tour see SpaceX. You are in Florida folks. Make the most of it!

The price for 7 days vs 6 days is minimal, so we do a half day as a resort day, but still enjoy dinner and park time at night. We aren't pool people, but LOVE to check out the resorts! It is helpful to have a laundry/relaxation day in the middle of the trip! I use this time to start the packing process because I get stressed out when we get spread out a little more each day. It pays off BIG TIME at the end of our trip.

Having traveled with my own young kids before, I deliberately scheduled a "day off" mid-week next April (coming to WDW for 1st & only trip with 8 yo grandson) Also made sure we'll hit the highlights, but know we can't do it all, so leaving plenty of space for aftrn rests/naps. No meltdowns wanted!

Line dancing on Monday nights at Saratoga Springs resort, painting classes where you can take home your own masterpiece souvenir which was also at Saratoga Springs, seeing Jason and Billy perform at Scat Cat's Club over at the Port Orleans French Quarter, mini golf at Winter Summerland, live entertainment at Disney Springs in the evenings, lunch at The Edison is a must do for me, monorail resort hopping and then of course, that wonderful hand scrub in the gift shop over at the Grand Floridian because I have to check out all the wonderful scents, movies at the Disney resorts under the stars, watching Stacey's Must Do's on the resort tv Disney channel while I unpack, take a stroll on the Boardwalk and get some photos in that old fashioned photo booth. Ride the Friendship boats from DHS to the Boardwalk. Take a carriage ride at Port Orleans Riverside. Don't miss YeeHaa Bob's show at River's Roost Lounge over at Port Orleans Riverside! Visit the stables over at Fort Wilderness. Ride the ferry from MK over to Fort Wilderness Campgrounds so I can go across the water bridge and hike the campgrounds. Hang out at Wilderness Lodge and grab a drink at Roaring Forks sit at a table out by the waterside and watch the geyser "erupt". Take the restaurant tour at Boma before they open. Use nightvision goggles and view the animals on the savannah at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

We resort hopped with no problems earlier this year in our rental car (without dining reservations, but we are DVC and AP). How strict have the parking attendants gotten about self-parking? I am so looking forward to seeing ALL the Christmas decorations and cruising around in a convertible!

I love our resort days. My daughter and I are gluten-free, so we absolutely must go to Port Orleans French Quarter for gluten-free beignets. Then we have to hit Disney Springs and check out Erin McKenna's bakery for more gluten-free goodies along with Cookes of Dublin for delicious gluten-free fish and chips. Yum! We fish and rent a Surrey bike at POR. When our kids were young, they also loved riding ponies at Fort Wilderness. Many times, it's our most enjoyable Disney World day.

Hey AJ, I liked the intro but I very much love your greeting at the start of each of your videos. The music was not the style your calm voice fits with either. I think a greeting where you say like “Hey Guys it’s AJ from DFB, check us out on social media!” Something like that but love your videos thanks AJ!!!

I live in Orlando and have never visited the resorts. I’m on my own and can’t walk much, but if I could do something that doesn’t require staying at a hotel, it would be nice. I suppose they let you tour so you can decide on a place to stay. Or maybe the whole resort area is off-limits I’m not sure.

You can get into the resorts if you have an AP or dinner reservation! We even go for different Quick Service options, so you shouldn't have a problem!

There is a fascinating place in Orlando, Skeletons: The Museum of Osteology, which has hundreds of skeletons of all sorts of unusual critters, some grouped by themes such as Locomotion, others showing related critters like Primates to show the differences and similarities. We went because my sister is an anatomy professor, but I'm not and I found it absolutely fascinating, We went on day three of a five day trip, and it gave a welcome change of pace. Also a way to sneak in something educational for the kiddies yet still fun. There's several other attractions nearby, we also went to an aquarium but there are virtual reality games in the same building.
I don't know if you have some sort of deal with Disney that requires you to only talk about Disney stuff in your vlogs, but if not, I'd love to see something about what to do *off-property* on your non-park day(s)!

Resort day!!! I can't wait for resort day! We are staying at Port Orleans Riverside in April 2019. At our resort they have horse and carriage rides, so we will definitely be doing that. Also at our resort they have fishing!! Catch and release of course, but something fun to do. And of course we will be using the pools there!! Also on our first day of arrival we kinda chill and don't do much, so we decided to head to Disney Springs and rent those antique cars that drive down the street and then go in the water because its also a boat!!! You rent those at the Boat house !! We might ride the air balloon too. So lots of fun stuff outside the main parks on resort days!!! Woop woop lol. We can't wait!!

BBM BBM Hi!! I'm not sure how long you are going for. There are 4 parks , we usually go to Epcot for a full day (open to close) , Animal Kingdom for a full day , Hollywood Studios for a full day and Magic Kingdom 2 full days , so that's a total of 5 full days of park time. Our other days we do Resort stuff for half the day and then at night we go back to the parks.

I wanna do a resort day but being a local, you don’t get to go to the resorts much cause you never stay there since you can just drive home. But I wanna go for some of the food (hello Tonga Toast and Mickey Beignets) But I live far enough away that it would be a hike to go out there just for the resorts especially because you can’t park there if you aren’t staying there. Do they still let you pool hop or have they cracked down on that? I wanna do a resort day but I wanna make more out of it than just to get food since it’s a 30 minute drive there and then several bus rides since we will most likely park in Disney Springs. Do you have any advice for resort hopping when you’re a local and not going to Disney for the parks? I thought even maybe going to MK on a ticketed event day like MNSSHP or Christmas Party. Then when the park closes go around the resorts?

    • @stephenwong7465

I usually Uber/Lyft in to a resort. When the gate guard asks if I’m checking in? I usually give I’m visiting the (insert name of restaurant) or going to visit the food court, etc. I’ve never had an issue getting in to a resort via Uber/Lyft.
I guess an alternative is park at Disney Springs and then take the bus to the resorts.
I have noticed that the pools are definitely placarded for resort guests only. So no swimming in the pools unless you’re staying at that resort.
When trying to get into the magic kingdom I usually Uber to the Floridian and then monorail to MK or Uber to contemporary and walk to MK. For Epcot or Hollywood studios, I Uber to the Boardwalk and then take the boat or walk to either place. The reason why I don’t Uber/Lyft directly to Epcot or Hollywood studios is because you can’t tell if the Uber/Lyft driver you’re getting knows how to get to the park. I’ve had some drivers not speak any English and just blindly following his GPS to Epcot cast member parking. Or just drive circles trying to figure out how to drop me off at Hollywood studios. If you give the driver a resort, there’s only one place he can drop me off at. And it’s just much less hassle then trying to get dropped off at Epcot/Hollywood studios and you can’t get dropped off at magic kingdom directly with Uber/Lyft - only the ticket and transportation center unless you’re using Disney’s Minnie Lyft

DS & DH don’t think resort days are relaxing with me. We are DVC & AKL is our home resort so we have tons to do there. I race round trying to get EVERYTHING done! It’s so much fun though. This time we fit in the Boma/Jiko tour with lovely free samples. We did the drum cafe & the lady who ran it had to stop drumming until she could contain her laughter at DH’s bad timing. We did the cookie decorating & had a brilliant laugh with all the other guests (not just for kids. We are 2 adults & a 17 yo). We also spoke to all the cultural representatives when we saw them to learn more about their homes & of course animal watched like mad. Luckily coming from England we take longer trips & had 18 nights so just in case you think we didn’t have chance to hit any parks...

I personally don’t see the point in doing a full resort day. If I’m there less than 4 days then I don’t think it’s worth the time and if I’m there more than 4 days it’s only around $10 for each additional day so I’d rather just do a lazy resort morning or relaxing evening at DS than not go to the parks at all one day and waste my daily fast pass allotment.
