That was cool. I filmed the switch tre Darren Kaehne did over the hip on the Darling Harbour brick banks in Plebs. I’d forgotten all about it until I saw this video. Didn’t realise it was something that stuck in people’s minds, so I was stoked to hear it referenced.
That 360 flip at around 1:30 was 🔥 the way you jumped the hip, stopped mid air for a split second before the catch 👌 I think this will be the future skatepark design where they really look more like street spots than a sport compound 👌
Growing up skating Sydney streets in the 90s this park really hits home. Built to perfection best skatepark I’ve ever skated. I found this park because of your previous review video on it. Appreciate you and your videos🤝
Good to see it’s finally happened. I was lobbying for this around ‘94 as the Sydney Association of Skateboarders with O’meally & Chad. I would still like to see marble blocks and Prudential replicated in their original materials. Sydney had too many iconic street skate spots in the ‘90’s, proper world class level spots, that should live on.
Oh sick, it must be amazing to see this kind of stuff come to life then! That would be amazing, maybe we can put those requests in for the new Sydney park that comes our way 🤔 It really did and still has so many iconic spots today!
Rounded edge pit ledges in pebblecrete and the kebab (the skateable sculpture that used to be on the risen section of Martin place) would probably be going too far now but they were in my plan 30 years ago. 😂
Great vid Leon. This is my local. Just to answer something Shannon asked, the old mini with the hump was the same location as the much cherished steel mini ramp. The hump was too gnarly so they knocked it down and built a humpfree one.
Loved this vid. I had no idea those banks and ledges were modelled on specific iconic Sydney spots but it makes so much sense. You should do a series of this stuff. A bit like Thrasher’s ‘this old ledge’ series but with a Sydney spin on things!
Sick video! I reckon you should include the fact that you’ve got the head designer for convic skateparks in the video title, or maybe say something about getting insider knowledge. Just a thought!
Thanks for this Leon 🙏 It's great to see the original spot footage, and especially to hear from the guy whp designed the park we've skated so many nights. Also, Plebs, god damn that had an impact for us Sydney grubs; head in on day to skate the martin place pebble-crete pit, go past George St Surf Dive n Ski for 411VM, grab Plebs and train home with no idea what's about to hit us 😂
All good man, thanks for watching! Yeah it’s cool to see the inspiration behind the park for sure 👌🏽 Hahaha I’ve heard that same story from others too, such a classic day in the city lol
wasn't the old metal mini ramp still around until very recently? it might have been as the skatepark was just opening in 2021 or so. that annandale wave ramp was nuts though, close to unskateable haha
Yeah the ramp was still there after this skatepark opened but then they eventually tore it down not long after lol I never skated either of them but I wouldn't miss them 😂
There was a crossover period of a month around July 2021 when you could ride the new park and then pop over to the steel mini. Then the steel one got knocked down.
I built this skatepark with Convic, awesome job to be a part of and its dope to see it being recognised and appreciated years down the track. Iconic project, hope I get a chance to skate it again soon

Oh no way, that's amazing man! Great job 🥳
Amazing. So rad
One of the sickest parks I’ve ever seen
It's so fun and looks amazing!

Haha thanks man! It was delayed like that because I was skating a 10" board this day 😂
Yeah I'm really liking it too!
That park looks great. I love how they matched the brickwork to the bridge.
Yeah man, the whole park look so nice 👌🏼

Hell yeah, this really is such a 90's inspired skatepark 🙌🏼
Oh sick, thank you man!
Yeeeeee Simon 🔥
Such a legend!
Awesome video, loved the history
Thanks dude, it was so good to learn about how the design process works too 🙌🏼

@@nathanho5755Haha I remember ollying into that pebblecrete pit, and how much the ledges would grab and throw dudes off grinds 😂
One of the funnest parks
It's so sick!

Thanks dude! Oh so it was in the same spot? Yeah I never hear anything good about the OG ramp but still, for some reason everyone loved it 😂
Yoooo! Thanks for the info! And yes, the hump was so gnarly to deal with 😂
@@terriblehappytalks Had a few dramatic slams over it!
@@LeonPaxton the glow of nostalgia!
Used to skate flat ground right where those brick banks are now. Can't believe how far it has come, nice work!
Damn that would be so crazy to see the progression of this area then!
@@LeonPaxton only shame is I moved just before the new park was built...
This was great. This is my favorite park that you've reviewed. I hope I get to skate it one day!
Thanks dude! Yeah you should, it's so fun 🙌🏼
Learnt from the mistakes on the Belco "mini" 💯💯💯
This was awesome, they were very thoughtful with the design of the park
Yeah dude, Convic are the best at that!
sick leon i went to a holaiday in sydney a few weeks ago but i found this skatepark bc of u thanks g
That's sick man, It's such a good skatepark too!
Thanks for the history lesson, Leon 👍 I was there that day you filmed 😆
Thanks man, this was a fun day 🙌🏼
Oh damn, I must have missed you!
@LeonPaxton All good. You looked like you were busy, so I didn't want to interrupt.
Nah dude, it's never an interruption! Next t time I'll catch you for sure 🤝🏽

1:18 kid's reaction is priceless
I didn't even notice that 😂
Love this. Thanks for all that you do brother, and thanks for a rad day!!
Thanks my man! Thanks for having me out 🙏🏼

Never knew the skate sene was so alive in the 90s in Australia
Yeah dude, it was massive!
Dope video man!
Thanks man, had such a good time on this one!
@@LeonPaxton I bet man! So sick getting the behind the scenes on the thoughts that went into the design work and the history!
Yeah dude, it's pretty intense! Simon goes deeper into the details on the episode we recorded too so make sure you catch it tomorrow arvo 👌🏼
@@LeonPaxton Most definitely man🤘🏼 I’m currently participating and filming a finger board meet up at my local skate shop haha

Hahahah. Yeah, I’d love to know who’s idea that was😂
hi rennie
👏
🙏🏼
It's an awesome park but those benchs next to the brick banks ruin it a bit. makes going to the left almost impossible for tricks that need a run out
g'day from WA
I need to get over there and skate some of the Perth parks!
@@LeonPaxton esplande youth plaza sending love
Damn that place looks amazing!
Such a great street park. Would prefer the mini in skatelite though - concrete minis are a modern creation and I’m not a fan.
Yeah it's sick! I feel you on that but it definitely wouldn't have suited the rest of the park if it was done that way lol
I built this skatepark with Convic, awesome job to be a part of and its dope to see it being recognised and appreciated years down the track. Iconic project, hope I get a chance to skate it again soon
Sick dude, you guys did such a great job! Yeah dude, such an iconic park and spots it was based off of 🙌🏼
Cheers dude, hope I get a chance to have a roll there when I get back to Sydney soon 👌
Definitely worth it man, it must feel so good to be able to skate something you were a part of creating too 🙌🏼
Do you find the mic annoying to skate with or does it just disappear as you skate.
I don't always use it when I'm skating but when I do it just becomes part of me and I forget I even have it lol
@@LeonPaxton sick thanks man
