Interesting comparison. Thank you. Only one thing to mention - we have round watercolors from 6 up to 48 shades so there is wide range of colours you can choose from.
Thank you for the video! Koh-I-Noor have been my go to brand for a while because they have nice quality and are cheap, also as someone who lives in Europe where they're are produced they are widely available ^-^
I have had the Kohinoor opaque set for 15 years, for travel use only. Only 1 pan has crumbled in all that time, but I was able to get the pieces to stick back in the pan by soaking it with a puddle od water and letting it dry slowly with the lid on. I usually paint in a medieval manuscript style so having limited colors is fine and I also dont mix alot of shades or use watery washes. Its a convenient substitute for my large palette filled with various Euro brands of gouaches.
Wow that's quite incredible. I'm glad to here about the longevity of these paints!! Also it's good to see how people use them for different purposes. Thank you for sharing.
Kohinoor disks come in two categories, Round and Anilinky (Brilliant). I own a set of both and can tell the one used in this video is the Round set, which is a little chalky and feels like student grade. But i highly recommend trying the Anilinky set because it's on a totally different level, very vibrant and smooth colors, very easy to reactivate with water and surprisingly pigmented, it also has a beautiful vibrant purple that the Round set lacks. I can't afford expensive paint, but when i found Kohinoor i didn't even feel like i need expensive paint anymore as these Anilinky ones are so satisfying compared to my old watercolors that i used to buy for much higher prices
Rain drop ohhh i have never heard of these! But they do seem to make up for everything I missed with these kohinoor paints. The purple, and smother texture! Thanks for sharing! I’m happy u found a solution that works well for you!
Hey really good to know! Hearing about good alternatives for more expensive brands is always a bless. I have the koi watercolour travel kit but I bought it a few years ago. Now they seem to be really expensive (maybe due to export problems) and you can not exchange the pannels. So if I used all colors I have to watch out for a new watercolour solution.
rarainka Ahh im glad u liked it! Is it. The same as the disc set!? Oh really, I havent looked much into the brands other products. Yes true! That is kind of annoying! But
Well the koi set is more looks more like the winsor and newton set but the little 'pannels' ( don't know how to call it) are tucked in place, so that you can not change them out. On one hand that's good cause the colours didn't get thrown around. The kit itself is really small and good for travelling.
The reason the watercolor wheel pans dry so fast is the higher amount of binders in them. W&N uses less binders more pigment and that seems to always want to take longer to dry. Personally, I prefer a bit of moisture in my paints because it helps them to activate more rich more quickly as long as they are not so wet that the colors are able to run out of the pans I am totally fine putting it away like that. I’m extremely clean about my palette boxes and don’t often allow the box to get messy or the colors to mix together and I NEVER mix directly in the pans. I am not at all downing anyone who does by all means whatever works best for YOU is exactly how you should do it! This is just what works best for myself
I loved the video! Thanks a lot! People also speak a lot about the sakura koi set but there are also people saying it's chalky so I guess if you were to compare Koh-i-noor and sakura koi, Koh-i-noor would win but I never really saw any comparison between them
0:20 ehm if you have 4 discs with 6 colors each, then you have a total of 24,not 20 Anyway I'm looking forward to these considering they are less than 4 euros where I live and they also come in smaller sizes (6,12,18 and 24) ;)
Victoria omg that's true Ahhhh pretty stupid of me Hahah. For some reason I thought there were only 5 per disk or Tbh I don't know what I was thinking!? Ahh that's pretty awesome, there seems to be a better selection/range where you live! 😶🎉
I'm just about to recommence working with water colours after a long absence. Paints have changed, and there are now many more brands available. This comparison has clarified several choice issues for me, so thank you for that.
I dont know. My favourite colours are Gansai Tambi by Kurotake. I had Kohinoor, when i was very young. It's cheap variant for everybody. Ok, i don't know, if it's cheap in other countries. I live in the Czech Republic. I was in official Kohinoor shop. If you want watercolor, this clasic version or Anilínky are good. But aquarelle series name's Modeluz. It's from artist series. I have 48 pencils from this series (about 20$).
Koh-i-noor produces Mondeluz Watercolours - there is a basic set (24 pcs) and you can buy at least 2 more 24-pcs-sets = Landscape and Portrait ...they arent that cheap as the discs - I m pretty sure the discs are meant for primary schools.
I found the WN Cotmans, which is lower grade than the true Windsor and Newton, only need one sweep to create strong pigment that jumps but the cheaper watercolour need a lot more swirls to make strongly pigmented colours. The cheap ones stain the page more and does not blend through water on the page as well.
Thank you for your video. I have bought my mum the Koh-i-Noor set for Christmas as a stocking filler so didn't want to go overboard with price (have already bought 3825848 pressies for her 🤣).. good to know it is good value for money 💜
I have had both as well as kuretake and daler rowney watercolours, my favourite are still koh I noor, although I like the anilinky more than these disks, the koh I noor anilinky seem perfect, they almost seem inky to me just as they are sooo pigmented
Lovely vid! Totally subbed. I have the Cotman paints but I was wondering if there was an alternative paints I can use for practice. It makes me anxious to use my more expensive paints b/c of the price lol.
pan-demonium pan-demonium ah thanks! We'll of other brands I've only tested the other one featured in the video. The Koh-i-noors! I can only recommend them! 😊
Your brush seems to work much better with Koh I Noor than mine. I was about to throw the paints out. Please can you tell me what paint brush you are using ?
yea you might have to make sure you are using watercolor paper. Generally it is a good idea to go for brand watercolor paper (also available in different price categories). Other than that, I would not know why that is!
@@miriampippaart4960 I am :' I brought some good quality watercolor papers but it does the same on all of them. When I apply it it looks good, once it dries the colours crack and seperate on the paper.
Hi Miriam! I want to try painting, so I"m basically a begginer, would you recommend koh i noor for starters like me? They"re most affordable- than the other quality ones
really useful video :D i only have the winsor and newton on but now i am considering getting the koh i noor ones because of the many advantages you spoke about here. the 45 pan from winsor and newton is indeed very large and not so steardy
Anca Pora Illustration Ahh I'm so glad you feel that way! Yea I mean one can always buy the 24 pan Winsor & newtons... But I think the koh-i-noor is a strong competition!
Thank you for you vid. only one point you have 4 discs with 6 coulours in each ,I guess its koh i noor 24 colours. The company also makes sets which are for landscape , portrait etc. and rly good pigmetation for the price . Koh i nor has variety of watercolours , try ANILINKY brilliant watercolour I like those vibrant colours in it , and even atrtist quality which is name MONDELUZ made same way as winsor , changeable. :) Have a nice day
Haha yea I did make a mistake there. And thank you!! That's really good to know, you also seem quite knowledgeable about this! You have a nice day too! 💕
Thank you, I use them while I go outdoor, and I only pick the circles i will need from all the circles , mixin anilinky and the normal ones. Or just pick the gray circle for scatch. Not shure If you can purchase them. I order it via my art suplier.
It depends, if you bought it from Amazon, the transporatation costs is very expensive! I bought mine from our local belgian/nederlands online store bol.com!
These are two different items, according to their use and quality! The Winsor & Newton one is to sit on a table, with no distractions, while the other one, I dunno where "you" got them, is for kids! ( to play around )
RE ABERILLA well the aim of this video was to show how the difference that you pointed out, is true for the branding, but doesn't actually show in the quality. I came to the conclusion that they actually compare quite well. Surprisingly, the "kids" watercolors are of pretty great quality. And I have seen other more professional artists use them for their work too!! Like Zyra. And I definitely think your opinion is valid, and "you" can use what ever brand you want, I just have a slightly different opinion and like both sets . 😊
RE ABERILLA yo they aren’t for “kids”! Many professional artists use them! I’m doing a design degree, the “kids” palettes are the 2 dollar ones you buy in the store not the koh I noor. I must attest they are very similar quality. Just sayin
That is a good, rapid, informative review. I love my Koh-i-noor; I have two. I think it has too many blues, but it is otherwise perfect. I take it out with me in my bag and my kids use it. I don't care how much paint they use because the paints are cheap. I think it is superior to W+N.
Interesting comparison. Thank you. Only one thing to mention - we have round watercolors from 6 up to 48 shades so there is wide range of colours you can choose from.
Just ordered a few minutes ago the full set (48 pics.) for a great price. I can't wait to get it! I love Koh-I-Noor's products 😍
I've just bought the full set. I've checked your yt channel but haven't seen any video using them, do you have any video to recommend?
KOH-I-NOOR HARDTMUTH Hi I am after the colour names to the watercolour wheels
I'd love to know the difference between koh I noor watercolor sets
Thank you for the video! Koh-I-Noor have been my go to brand for a while because they have nice quality and are cheap, also as someone who lives in Europe where they're are produced they are widely available ^-^
Phoenix Avatar thank you! Ahh im glad u like them too!! In Germany though, I have never seen this set actually! But I guess in other parts of Europe?

Stay with WN. Just buy the 3 primary colours and a raw sienna instead of buying heaps of cheaper colours.

Denise Sheehan yess the cotmans are quite good! I’m happy you found a good solution for yourself, but I see what you mean!
When the red got into the blue i screamed

Your brush seems to work much better with Koh I Noor than mine. I was about to throw the paints out. Please can you tell me what paint brush you are using ?
I've read somewhere that the Koh-I-Noor paints can be a bit chalky and mixing colours can be a bit granulated. Have you found this ?
Richard Bridger Ahh they are a bit tougher to activate, but once mixed with enough water the pigment is really smooth and they also mix quite well!
miriampippa art thank you. 😉
so, are they the same quallity?
Unless you are going artist grade Kho-hi-noor is the best choice by a long shot
I got the 3 pc wheels and the watercolors are behaving weirdly for me :( can it be the paper issue? When they dry they turn chalky and so weird..

just so you know the koh-I- noor one doesn't come in 20. you can get up to 42 colours. I have bought one
MuffinWomen101 thank you for the info! It must be different from country to country!
Aren't the Koh-I-Noor paints craft paints? There is no point comparing them with W&N - children paints vs student paints.

@@maiarynning7619 that is very practical! Thx again!
Cotmans?
actually your Koh-I-Noor 4 discs set has 6 colors, so it makes a 24 color set not 20 as you said!
yup you're right. someone pointed out my silly mistake before. XD
Very informative 👍 thank you 👌✌
Great video! I just found your channel :D Yay subscribed ^_^
