      The weapon has way more value than just on the surface though. A single tank is worth several million dollars, and this launcher pretty much can single handedly Stop any and all tank advances by itself. So the fact that we have these things, means that the enemy can't just recklessly use their tanks. The US themselves have not had to test this, but this has proven to be very true in ukraine. Russia has had to change their entire tank strategy, once we started giving these to the Ukrainian forces

      Welcome to modern militaries. Just about everything is obscenely expensive. This is why Russia and china don't do precision guided munitions in huge numbers and also why European armies are small. The Americans are the only ones that spend that much money on their military. It was great training with them.

    • @Slayman3909
      @Slayman3909 ปีที่แล้ว +60

      @@AnotherWorthlessMoron I think the reasoning the US uses is multifaceted, just like the reasoning for the Javelin - guided munitions save lives, both for the home country, and in less civilian/unintended side-casualties. Guided Munitions are also scarier to fight against, because they tend to have something like 3 to 10 times more range than dumbfire munitions, which means that literally everything from tanks to planes to helicopters are outgunned if you don't have guided munitions. If the US can show to other countries that going to war with them will cause a total loss even without nukes, then they won't think to try it. I'm sure there are other reasons too but, just for these two reasons alone, it's worth developing guided Munitions if you have the money to spare.

    I was a 27E when I served in the Army 20 years ago. I repaired the TOW, Javelin, ITAS and Dragon missile systems. Basically I made them shoot straight. The Javelin is a super easy system to work on and it's sights allow you to see through some walls - well, the wall has to be thin and the person on the otherside of it has to be leaning on said wall for a few minutes. It also has a "game" in the sights for the gunners to practice with without actually firing any ordnance.

    From what research tells me as well is that the infrared function or tracking function of the javelin is extremely effective. Even without the weapon. So yeah if it was that much money I would be keeping the search function or infrared function of the javelin after I used it. Just because of the sheer fact of how effective it is at finding heat signatures.

    I have fired the AT-4 before, but not the Javalin. So I didn't even know they could come apart like that. If they are separate components, then couldn't they be rigged to have the tube be fired separately from the guidance system? That way you could have someone aiming from a concealed location, while someone else held the tube and fired from atop a roof or something. It's at least a cool idea. Lol.

    These military should really start thinking about investing in cheap ass hobbyist giant scale RC planes and upgrading the receiver and transmitter, then loading it with some sort of ordinance to take out anything from Dug in soldiers to tanks! It would be way cheaper than some of the expensive hobby drones and probably a little bit quieter as well. The only drawback would be you may have to practice a little bit more since hobby drones do all the work for you as far as keeping the vehicle steady even when affected by when and air pockets

    In my head they have google maps and can pin a target and from a ship they can launch big missiles or launch from land. They can cycle through a list of artillery and the computer software will determine blast radius of what you want to hit. In my head they even have rockets that can punch through structures like homes and the blast is enough to only effect those in a structure. Those on the ground would think it was suicide bomber or a mishap making ied

    Back in my day, we had to haul the clunky POS, UAS-11 out to our OP. The batteries would work for about 15 minutes each...if you were lucky. If you had TOW gunners organic to your Troop, they could run their UAS-11's from their HMMWV. That was a WAY better setup.

    We used gen1 thermals on Eryx back in the day to do the same. However it had a temperature knob you could set to basically zero so that the only thing you would see was very hot places and it only had one color. If you are out in the middle of no mans land, aka wilderness, and you see red squares boxes in your thermals. That is a tent with humans in it...
