My husband and I were at Athens Church (Andy Stanley) one morning and they played a Dave Ramsey video. We were livid! We didn’t get up early and get dressed for that! We finally left there after going for 3 years. We found a small Baptist church and our Pastor preaches the gospel every single Sunday!

"When you meet this man named Jesus it changes the way you look at people."
How about when you meet Jesus it changes how you look at yourself? You know, a sinner who needs to repent though the blood of Christ.

Give your last dollar! Doesn’t matter if the kids eat or you have gas to put in your car. This comes from small churches too. I despise emotional manipulation. Wish I had figured it out sooner. My sister went to a church about 20 years ago and the pastor scolded and preached about tithing and then passed out an entire box of tithing envelopes to everyone in the congregation! She felt horrible as she had no income to tithe from.

Anyone who goes to a church that asks for money or a certain percentage is not a church. We are suppose to help the church, but not required to give so much. I love the Orthodox church and the best one to trust. Please learn and read the orthodox bible and ask questions before you point fingers for we were first . Catholics wanted to change things and that is one reason we split, we WERE NOT going to accept changes to what was given to us. Also the infallibility of the Pope playing God over all Christians. The Patriarche is the leader of the Greek Orthodox, and another one is for Russians and another for the other individual, The only full leader of our church is Jesus Christ Himself!!!!!!!

I wonder how you think a being can be pure and righteous when commands his followers to commit genocide, or purposely hardens someones hard against him and then punishes that person for having a hardened hard? Also, how do you know that everyones righteous actions is solely for selfish reasons? Are you physic? Can you see everyone's motivations? Or do you just believe everyone is a shitty person because that's what you've been conditioned to believe? Can people in your mind not want to be philanthropic because they just want better world in the here and now without any guilt or motivation by superstition? And even if someones philanthropy was motivated by selfish reasons like wanting to be remembered, that doesn't negate the good act itself.

2 CoR 9:7 “So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.” And
1 Corinthians 16:1-2 “Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come.” It’s implied “tithing” is “giving” so tithing is implied in the New Testament.

    • @reedermh
      @reedermh 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Paul said he was the apostle to the Gentiles. They would not have known the Jewish Law. So how can it be implied that the tithe was still applicable? And what about Acts 15 where the very nature of the conference was how much, if any, of the Law still applied? The response didn't mention giving in ANY manner, much less the tithe.

I was raised in a very famous church, you've probably seen their music on television. I began realising how phoney it all was when I went to bible college (night school) run by a separate university - for one assignment, I taught a whole lesson using 'sayings', not scripture and wrapped it up by asking my fellow students "now who said that in history?" - they were all throwing books of the bible at me. They were appalled when they realised they'd been conned by 'fortune cookie Christianity' (for the record I did not lie or misrepresent any of these sayings as scripture). My next lesson, I opened with: "Don't be a M***F---er, God hates M***F---er's! Now let us turn to Leviticus chapter 20" - the lesson was a warning to Christians who use the "New Covenant" through Christ as an excuse to throw out the Old Testament. (for those playing at home - all Mitzvah's in the OT are reiterated in the NT, the way we meet some of these Mitzvah's and the penalty for breaking some of them have changed because Christ pre-paid for us, but the rules still exist). The final straw that caused my family to leave the phoney music church was when we sat through a Sunday morning and realised that the bible was never opened, and the word of God was not mentioned - NOT EVEN ONCE!!! We now attend a church that uses expositional teaching - the entire bible, chapter by chapter and verse by verse. No more money grabs (they don't even talk about it during service unless money/tithes are mentioned in the scripture we're up to that week), no more emotionally manipulative rock concerts, no more guilt trips for not volunteering because I was busy saving lives at work..... I feel like I've been let out of the matrix

props to you sir for calling this out for the charade it was. it's so unfair to the innocent of the spirit in congregations who don't understand what's really going on there and hand over much much more money than they should (practically, I mean spending money on expensive seminars when things are super tight as it is "on your budget"?? pray and listen to your heart I guess) to an institution they don't really think of as a very srious business with a payroll and people get paid for their positions, eh hem that pays ZERO taxes, WOW NO TAXES WHATSOEVER...now that sounds like heaven, JK . master salesman/actors psychologically manipulating group audiences subliminally through very well thought out linguistically, live group emotionality wise and taylor made "sermons" My favorite part was when his supreme pastorship used a true lesson of Christ < it really comes down to what you gave> knowingly as a closing statement and twisted it as a tool meant purely to put a subltle but steady psychological pressure to attend the imposed event on everyone listening. these guys ain't dumb i'll give em that..

Matthew 6:31-34New International Version (NIV)31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Thanks, BezelT3!!! I've been wondering for years what Dave Ramsey's theology was, as I have *NEVER* heard him give a clear Gospel...
BTW... I don't think that the rainbow sign included God being "with" us, always. In fact, I fail to find anywhere where God promises this to Noah and His family, either... Also, when he says that kindness is not self centered but, others centered? I believe the Bible teaches that we should be God/Christ centered and then, kind, compassionate, long-suffering, generous etc... The value of your life is according to what you gave away??? The value of my life is found in Jesus Christ and no other!!! A number of years ago, I used to hear Dave Ramsey on Christian radio. At that time, he was much better and stuck purely to financial advice. However, this is like a train wreck and he seems to have derailed, somewhere along the way...
Thanks again, BezelT3... God Bless... :-)

This is a FACT about mega-churches. I was also a part of one. It was also a church cult. My only issue is that when you start with a faulty premise, you cannot go back and change it without destroying the foundation and rebuilding from scratch. The Bible used as the tool to refute these "false teachings" is IMO a faulty premise. For example, stating what mega churches do is wrong using bible scriptures is what most people do but it never works. The Bible is not objective truth. As we have seen by both "good" and "bad" churches is that scriptures are subject to mean whatever the observer/hearer intends them to mean in that particular context. Until Christians stop deifying the Bible change is futile.

"But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them-bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping." Still, can't blame these deceived leaders completely. If God's people loved his word more than riches these men would have no audience.

The mega church I came out of the Pastor and his (Pastrix) wife are at the top of the pyramid scheme. They have four estates (a few lakefront) each with a value of about one million dollars. The only way they could have afforded this was off the backs of those people who were told that God would pour them out a blessing when they gave their hard earned money when they passed the bucket. (I guess a bucket is supposed to make you want to give more).
I am so glad my eyes were opened to the prosperity gospel and now have nothing to do with this church. I sincerely hope others open their eyes to these wolves and get into the Word of God and see what it says for yourself.

I came out of a prosperity church a couple of years ago, although I was raised baptist.
one thing they always do is hype up the offering, they use music to sway your emotions and then they tell you GOD will only bless you if you give to the church,
its also always at least 30 minutes long and by the time your done you realized you just gave money for 3 or 4 causes and they make bank!!!
    its a disgrace!!!!!!!!!!

You know I never realised that ALL these Pentecostal/Charismatic churches were preaching a prosperity gospel. Some of them sound legit, but you read between the lines and almost every sermon (if not EVERY sermon) is about giving money and being blessed.
The devil is cunning in his deceit and he uses subtlety to great effect.
This emerging church is all about money and steering people away from the Lord too.
What gets me is that so many people are flocking to these churches.
I mean if I had a spiritual need and sought God and went to Joel Osteen's church, after a couple of weeks I would realise that I'm not being fed and would leave.
The question is, is it a lack of common sense or is it a lack of the spirit of discernment. I dont understand how people feel like they're being fed and are growing spiritually at these churches.

This video is awesome! I think all Christians should watch this and be aware of what your churches are telling you and how they are leading you. This critique continually goes back to what is important--that Jesus died for us to save us from our own death in sin and coming judgement of our heavenly Father who is loving and just. Stewardship matters, but THIS--this gospel truth is WHY we come together--not to be financially free, but to be free from the weight of our sin. Make sure THIS IS what your church is teaching you. Don't get caught up in feeding the beast of the megachurch--you will regret it. I promise you.

Make no mistake, this is a profit-sharing venture. The church will put it on all the home groups as a mandatory task, which will guarantee sales of X number of units. The church will buy the units in bulk at a discount and then sell to the people at sticker price. Church pockets the difference. That’s why they’re so motivated to sell this on Ramsey’s behalf. He’s financially rewarding them for the hard sales pitch. It’s MLM 101. If your church is big enough to buy XX units, you can spend enough to get a personal visit. Ramsey builds his empire, churches get a cut of the profit, and poor people must pay-to-play if they want to advance in ministry.

  • @jean-paulramjattan1920

What a misuse of the information. First off if you can’t even get the guy name right it shows how much research and context you’ve actually studied (Dave Ramsey). I agree that church’s - mega churches in particular need to be run a certain way to receive cash. That’s all well and good, however to swing to the next side of the pendulum is really weak.
First off, the Bible speaks so much on the topic of money, it’s dangers and snares! The truth is the Church should be preaching more on money - the right way! How it becomes our focus of worship in our day to day lives etc.
Secondly, I’ve done the course offered by Dave Ramsey. Living in a 3rd world country listening to your opinions of the teaching - which you clearly haven’t done, is really poor when you are criticizing the way you are. The information, and principles in the course help move people away from this cultural approach to money and back to how God instructs us.
The only valid argument I do see as holding merit here is the use of this course to raise giving maybe? I don’t know the church, so I cannot comment. However, your opinion what and how a church should lead their services is really a matter of opinion. And since it’s your video and view you’re entitled to it. If that is the argument then by all means.
However don’t judge the work of Dave Ramsey based on the church’s use of it. Being a young pastor, I want the people I shepherd to live in financial freedom (and that’s not being rich) but being free from living after material wealth, and status.
The churches in the Western world is so bias both ways - money is spiritual and needs to be addressed! Of course not the way ‘sow a seed’ doctrine is thrown around, but true biblical means.
I like this channel, and definitely have benefited from the work you’ve done, so thank you. This one however needs a bit more research before you make such claims.

These false teachers keep their "flock" in bondage because if people would read their Bible's they would see that tithing is an O.T. law. Now the disciples asked for $ to take care of the widows, orphans and the church. The church being people not a $$$$ building. And this is to be our example. Jesus never said if you are greedy and want material stuff then give me your money. Widows, orphans n food n shelter for the preachers, missionaries n those who are in need, that's it.

Dave Ramsey is in the business of financial consulting with a Christian emphasis. That is what was shown here. I think it is a misstep, as a fellow Christian, that he tried to turn his normal financial methodologies into a sermon-which he is not a preacher nor claims to be one. While what Dave Ramsey teaches is nothing new it has helped many people get out of debt, become better givers and save for retirement. He teaches about building wealth not prosperity gospel which is a clear difference and in no way synonymous. He has a free national radio program and free podcasts where he gives free common sense financial advice. With all of that being said, Ramsey does take a bit to get used to in his personality style. I think BEZELT3 is right that the big misstep is the megachurch even taking Sunday worship away for what is otherwise freely available. Short sighted of Ramsey for taking the gig.

The prosperity gospel disgusts me even more than the fundamentalist (speaking in tongues, apocalyptic prophecies, everything's Satan/a demon . . . "I rebuke this, I rebuke that! In Jesus' name, of course." Conspiracies everywhere & hate government yet want to take it over) types I was raised by, and still have to deal with. That's bad, since I'm a devoted Wiccan and have been for years. I've come to see the fundamentalist and charismatic versions of Christianity as heresy, but the prosperity gospel is actually worse, and that's saying something. Following Jesus is supposed to be about sacrifice, not enrichment. As a Wiccan, both fundamentalist/charismatic (I know, they're not exact mirror twins, but the difference is relatively negligible) and prosperity gospel Christianity look to me just like forms of witchcraft - only they make it worse by trying to use Jesus' name to make it happen. Isn't this blasphemous to a certain degree to run around trying to exercise supernatural power in Jesus' name in order to get your will instead of Jesus' will?

My old church held FPU classes as well. My wife and I went through it and learned a lot about managing money. Within just a few years we're almost debt free, to include our home being paid off. Two college loans of ours, thousands of dollars racked up from poor choices, car loans, etc all paid off by using the technique he's teaching. Now we pay cash for everything, even for our two son's colleges. It truly was life changing once we knew how money actually worked.
With all of that said, it shouldn't have been a Sunday Worship service presentation. Not being a slave to the lender is a biblical principle. Overall when churches bring this program in it does seem that being able to give more to the church seems to be the underlying theme they want you to take away. What good does it do to teach someone how to live debt free if you don't teach them about Christ who made the ultimate debt payment?
