    Rap music is to blame for a lot of gang crime.

    • @speakertreatz
      @speakertreatz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      rap music started out an alternative to gang crime - hip-hop culture gave youths in gangs different ways to express themselves than violence, like music, art and dancing. The gang crime in NY in the 1970s was there long before rap and rap was considered an anti-dote, a creative way to express yourself. The gang problem in South Central LA in the 80s was there long before gangster rap. That gang problem was directly 100% down to crack cocaine and the profits it made. The music just documented the lives of these people, gave them a voice, a creative expression, told the world just what it was like to live in a neighbour ruled by gang culture. Show me now how you could 'blame' rap?

    • @youtmanj5441
      @youtmanj5441 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Gavin Paisley common now as much as people say it doesn’t cause and escalate violence its not true cause ive seen it happen with my own eyes it’s poison to the young people in the community and ive seen it change people and ye fair enough gangs existed before but when the rap came out and it started to glorify this madness it got 200x worse its facts and made children look up to these rappers and want to be like them .

    Lack of investment, business, opportunities & jobs compared to areas that are less diverse it's inevitable there going to be problems, compare Bristol to Wales where only a bridge separates both regions but there's investment, business opportunities & jobs in Bristol but not the same extent in Wales simply because Welsh people are considered less deserving, if there' the the elites are willing to deprive in different sect of whites namely Welsh what chance to black & brown people have. Thankyou

      Police don't care but neither do the people shooting each other. Why is it always someone else's fault? You can't blame the police because they "allow" them to shoot each other, don't do it then it won't happen.

    fairplay to these two lads, they took a huge risk in even meeting each other, not fully convinced it wasn't an ambush from the other gang, then a risk with their own side who might see them as unsafe just for even talking to a member of the other side. they both had balls. and good hearts and a vision for their kids. shame the best some people can do here is make wanky little remarks about the music, camerawork, the patois. don't let that detract from the great achievement you made lads, along with the director who help broker it.

    Bless you Guys Shabba and Dylan, I have watched this documentary carefully, I lived in Handsworth, 1970, had a child 1973, lived through the 1980's riots, lived with a bad man (no names mentioned), went to the blues parties all over Birmingham from a Thursday through to Sunday, walked about Lozells, Soho Road, Birchfield Road, had friends black and white, had to leave in the late 80's, (personal reasons) left with 3 Children, had to start life over again, alone no family, but I swore that my children would grow up honest and decent, to cut a very long story short They succeeded, they are now grown with their own families, their own homes and are all university graduates, with wonderful careers, am I one proud mum, Yes i am, but I did this alone I was a baby mother, I had to get them out of Birmingham, I was beaten, stabbed, and abused when I lived in Handsworth, and had to get out for their sake. But after watching this film/documentary I realise that some of you young guys are the result of those earlier days, no-one has given you the chances, I wish you well in your fight for peace between each other, please stick together, work together, love each other cause this world is so full of hatred already and you young black boys should not be killing each other. Look to yourselves to set example because I know from horrible experience that for many of you there is no 'father' to lead you and show you the way, and God bless your mothers for being there for you.
    When I lived on leonard Road it was all 'Jah Rastafari'
    Good luck Boys. xxxx god bless You...
    By the way, I am a WHITE Woman.

      +jilly french I grew up on Fentham Rd and none of this violence garbage happened during my youth. OK, there were one or 2 bust ups in parties/dances etc, but nothing like this gun business. Things changed and changed badly in the space of one generation. Like you I left Birmingham, went to University, left the UK to live in Europe. Still can't believe there is a gang culture there.

    It's a brave and positive step for the peacemakers; these lads and men who were no doubt given a disadvantageous start, in adverse surroundings. Most seem very bright to me, just caught up in an adverse environment with poor resources. The police attitude toward the appearance of those black men making this film was negative in my view. What with all the corruption in high places now, I respect those here who want to break from gang war and more so, from criminality.

  • @MrHaze1947

    I'm a Brummie born and bred. I grew up in the 70's and spent my youth in the 80's with many of the black guys from Handsworth, Aston, Ladywood, Lozelles etc.. I went to school with these dude's until we all started bunking classes and being stupid. My secondary school George Dixon on City Road was 95% black and Asian and only 5% white. As a white guy I can honestly say the racism that came from all the people of colour towards us few whites was fucking terrible and they say all the white people are the racist ones. I've had some great black mates over the years and fought side by side with them against other graffiti gangs back in the 80's but again the guys who were my friends were the most racist people I have ever come across (and they would admit it too) . The only reason I was OK was because I had grown up with these guys and gained respect off them for fighting along side them and such. The gang stuff they're talking about in this documentary was there in the 80's when I was a youth and we fought other gangs with bottles, knifes and fists. The only difference here is that these lot have access to firearms that we had no chance of getting hold of. I notice I haven't seen a single white person being interviewed in this documentary although there are white people in the places talked about and most probably white kids in these gangs.

    After all this, Handsworth is still the same and so is Aston and Lozells, same old soho road, same old Linwood road, same old Murdock road, all still as messed up as before if not worse.
    The only official guy on this programme was Nuggz, respected still both in Handsworth and Aston, that guy literally does what he likes, he’s got long ass stretch in jail now though.

    swapping area codes as when I lived in Aston , the b6 was burger bar and b21 was johnson's for yonks. I am glad I am long out of the ennit slang in speach and Just got out and Educated and found a job, nice hubby and turned myself from an aggressive female to a lady.
    There were asians but when i were living there, it was quite segregated, Albert road and further down was the Asian side mainly anyway and going up to victoria road,brooklyn avenue etc were mainly another segregation of Blacks, sad it was to grow up there in the 1980's to 1990's being mixed or white as hardly any there then. Wonder if it is more fairly mixed now!.

    Nice documentary. Feds trying to lock off the ting and treat you with suspicion even when your intentions are good. That lady got a glimpse of what police stopping you for no reason feels like. It makes you angry and defensive no matter who you are whether black, white, asian or any other race. The more that happens the more the resentment builds.

    • @powerbite92
      @powerbite92 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a joke. Luvvie film makers and Blairite politicos congratulating themselves. 2011 riots kicked off and all they could say was it was them against the government, they had to 'fight the police', it wasn't the police killing Asians and burning down buildings. 2011 riots was them being oppressed, what a joke.

    I find this so sad...
    I was born in Handsworth. White Irish, immigrants. Poor.
    We did not fight over a street. We worked.
    I experienced racism from the English family’s.
    I dealt with it, grew from it and moved on.
    The greatest form of racist abuse I have ever experienced in my time in Brum was not just from people of colour bur also from white English people.
    I’m white but Irish.
    I found my peace, found my place and identity. It wasn’t with a sect or clan, it was with my own self determinations and ownership of self. move on, educate, work and grow. Bro.

    My advice, if you can put all your wealth into one pot. Instead of wasting it on modern tech, expensive clothes, and stuff that is not essential. One poor man's income is peanuts together you could invest in your community like the coop did and hopefully dig your way out of that life you are stuck in. Some premises have really low rents, you can import clothes and run businesses and become your own bosses. You could bling up standard stuff and get your own labels you just got to believe you can and focus that you can. Like the lord says, only the things that you feed grow, grow success, talk about success stories, and let the bad fade and perish and no longer be your reason for communications. It won't be easy to put all your money into a community pot as you will have to have a mutual trust that whoever holds the pot won't do a runner. Where do you spend your cash, who is getting profit and getting on with life, and who is wasting their income and filling the pockets of other families for them to succeed and grow? We live in an era of hard sales tactics, Believe me, you don't need fancy cars, phones, clothes, houses, VIP images to have a happy life. I really hope this next generation succeeds in a good life without gang wars.

    • @MADMANB68
      @MADMANB68 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not for cheap thrills it’s a way of life that stems from gangs created to fight against the NF national front. My grandparents came here from Jamaica and got it hard from them and the police then the younger generations take it wrong and started to fight themselves. Don’t let the black boy image and narrative distract you from the real issue. Caucasian gangs in Liverpool, Manchester, Salford don’t get the same heat by the media though.
