As a diehard AMCer, I've gotta say your fixes regarding sound are awesome. Can you imagine the Bullitt chase using a slide whistle during the downhill portion??? A stupid choice, fixed really well. All-5.
Wow seeing this is better than documentary(of my country). A lot have developed since it was filmed. And it would be awesome if they reboot the man with the golden gun at Thailand again. ;) Anyway I always love the Bond's series
An interesting approach, but having JW Pepper in there added to the atmosphere of the scene, and provided a direct link to "Live and Let Die" - as for that weird slide whistle, that was put in as, ironically, the producers thought the sound from the jump was poor.
@670Kiester There is a "James Bond Ultimate Collection" DVD of this, and an extra shows the stuntmen behind this stunt. I read that for the jump a 6-cylinder model was used, with a centred steering wheel - the stuntman was lying down between a mannequin Bond and JW Pepper!
@oztopgun The Ambassador proly has a 360 v8, and Bonds Hornet is most likely 304 v8, both stock motors for that era AMC's. I have a '73 Jeep with a 360, and I,ve driven a Gremlin with a 304, they make loads of power.
Hey, I saw a HK Holden Kingswood and a 4-cylinder LC Holden Torana in the traffic. You're aware there were no AMC dealerships in Thailand at the time, and they had to build one especially for this movie.
I've seen that exact car they used in the film and the steering was centered. The producers hired a stunt car team that had been doing this barrell roll at county fairs for years
@doacarnage No worries Do-a. These movie cars aren't always what they appear. Spoke with the guy that runs the starksy & Hutch grantorino website and he said the car wasn't a 351 but a 460! Yet Starsky stated as much in one show. Glaser even dislikes the car to this day..but grins and bears it....as ya do!!
nice editing job! cutting out JW pepper, but why? I did like the never aired footage however, of the side streets in the first part of the chase, not all of this footage was in the original release.
True, but back then if you were a car company and you had a chance to "showcase" your cars in a major movie seen all around the world you're gonna use every car you got in every scene no matter how unlikely! Remember in Live and Let Die there seemed to be Chevy Impalas in every scene!
5:17 That sound effect belongs associated with a much sleeker object moving AT LEAST 80 m.p.h. Not a station wagon with plywood wings filmed Benny-Hill-style to make it look faster. HOW IN THE HELL is this goofy stuff considered Bond canon while the Woody Allen movie is deemed "too silly"?! In case you missed it, that airborne Vista Cruiser was being CO-PILOTED BY A MIDGET.

2 me, george martins exploitatation-like soundtrack 4" live +let die" didnt work at all-nice 2 c john barry restored in this 1-he adds a special dimension 2 bond
The slide whistle made the stunt so much more awesome! In the context of the film it worked. It was silly but it did work.
To me, the coolest part of that chase wasn't the river jump, but when he does the reverse fishtail spin at the 2:37 mark.

Thats true. Whats really unrealistic are the AMC police cars, which obviously were not used in Thailand.

At least Bond didn't just hotwire the Mercedes (steering wheels do lock in these things with no key in the ignition).
