  • This international law case formed the foundation of the "Lotus Principle" - that a nation has sovereignty to make laws within its own territorial borders, but no power to make laws within the territorial borders of another nation.
    That rule sounds simple enough, but what happens in a situation like this one - where conduct aboard a French vessel on the high seas contributed to destruction and loss of life aboard a Turkish vessel, also on the high seas?

    Thank you very much. I appreciate the longer version! Do you know why there is a discussion that the "Lotus"-Principle isn't workimg anymore or is outdated? I don't understand what is meant by that. Would really apperciate an answer for my exam preparation :)
