Are you kidding me? What a remarkable alternative to running switches and wires through the hard to reach back panel of the kitchen sink. Thank you Berlin Builds!
Well presented and extremely informative. I appreciated that you were brief and to the point. Also I appreciated your camera angles. I feel very confident about installing an air switch. Thanks
First off Thank you. As a handyman i do all sorts of things including garbage disposals. I was asked about this switch yesterday and I was unsure about what customer said she has for parts. Now after watching your video i am for sure what she has. Thanks again.

Many thanks. 68 year old woman here and the button was stuck in drepressed position. I watched this vid and reset the plug and made sure the hose was in place and the bottom popped back up (was I just lucky?) anyway. Saved me a call to handy man
Good clean informative Video As others have commented the seal goes on top of the counter to keep the water from entering the cabinet below Also the disposal could turn on when you first plug the power into the unit if the cycle of the unit is on so just be aware
Which side should I install if I have same sink and faucet in the middle? Does it matter which side dishwasher is on, which side outlet is inside cabinet, or if I’m right handed?
In looking at the switch and plug side, I see threads where the air tube connects. Is there not some type of plastic nut that goes on each end to ensure the tube stays in place?
Hey there great video, is there a way you can tell me the name of that countertop as I’m currently in the market and have a sample of one that looks just like this in the video?
Thank you! Sorry I don't have access to that information. This was in a home I built for the previous company I worked for before I started my own business, so I don't have access to the files to find out. Sorry!
My wall switch is kind of far from my sink. I also keep my pressure cooker right there. So I am always having to reach really far and behind the pressure cooker. That is why I am looking into one. It looks really convenient right there at the edge of the sink.
I found one of these switches by Emmerson Electric. The customer was having a problem with the switch so I looked on Emmerson's website and found there is a recall on these switches. Water can get into the tube and over heat the switch. After contacting them they graciously provided a replacement as there is a recall on specific models.
Nice job but his head is blocking an important part.Does anyone know exactly what he had to do up top?Why didn't he do it when he was on the other side on the top of the counter?
3:36 the seal needs to be on top so the water from the counter doesn't drip down. 4:50 plug the wall plug 180 degree of what you did and the air hose is too bent so leave it a bit longer
Thanks for the instruction. Very helpful. Just one quick question, do we require any kind of glue to seal the switch and countertop to avoid moisture going down the cabinet?
1 3/8” is pretty standard size for these. It’s always good to double check though on the specifications of the switch that you are buying to make sure it doesn’t require a different size hole 👍
I have to replace my air switch because it’s stuck “on”. Along with that my disposal won’t drain and there are no clogs. Can the switch cause the “won’t drain” issue? Thanks. Great video!
When an air switch is installed, would you leave a switch on or off to operator a disposer? In other words, what do you with the current toggle switch? No need to do anything or leave it on?
Is it pretty easy to remove the hose from the switch? I need to move my switch to a different hole. Do I just pull the hose off the switch, move the switch to the new hole, and then push the hose back onto the button? Is it that easy? Or removal is tricky?
My switch is on the wall, and my disposal is hardwired underneath. Looks like I would need to have an outlet installed underneath and a plug added to my disposal (which we already cut off to hardwire). What would we do with the wall switch? Thanks
That’s kind of a tricky one. By code my understanding is you have to blank off that switch unless you are able to get rid of the wires that were there. Are you doing the electrical changes yourself or hiring that out?
Sounds like you could use the wire that is going into the disposal and put in an outlet. You could then wire a whip or plug from the disposal, which you could then plug into the air switch plug. Then you’d take the air switch plug and plug it into the outlet. As I read what I wrote it sounds confusing, but I’m not sure of a better way to explain it. Probably the best solution is to ask an electrician if he is able to help you get an outlet in your sink cabinet and a whip attached to your disposal.
Weird. Sounds like the hole is too big for the switch then (the switch rests on its flanges on top of the hole). Does it rest on top if you let position it carefully? An epoxy may work if so.
@@berlinbuilds You are correct. The hole is big and only lasted three months before it fell out. I will just have to put in another sink or seal it off. Thanks for your responses.
Thank you! For the switch the easiest option is to just leave it in the on position. You can also change the wiring with a splice kit in order to get rid of the switch and be able to patch it with sheetrock (depending on the area you are in if the building codes will let you cover splices. I hope that helps!
If you have a wired switch to the under sink outlet you don't need to install anything else. Just install disposal, plug it in and use the wall switch already available. This option is for new installation that has no wall switch installed.
Probably not. Most people remodel a kitchen before it could hit that age 😎 It should last a good long time though, probably for as long as someone still wants it in their house.
Ook thank you, right now me and my husband is looking into purchasing a home and the sink didn't come with one. How my does it usallu cost for someone too installed at switch for the Disposal?

Very clear and concise description. Thank you! You have a very calm and clear way of describing and showing how to do the work. 👍🏻

We have a switch on the wall to turn on and off the Garbage Disposal. What is this Air Switch for?
Some people prefer to have this as a switch instead of one on the wall. They do the same thing, turn on and off the disposal.
@@berlinbuilds Thank you for making it clear.
The" air" threw me off.
@@ube-23s oh no worries! This one just uses air to toggle the switch on and off, that's where it gets the name.
@@berlinbuilds ok, now I got It.
Thanks.

Made it simple and easy. Job well done!. Just wonder if the 18 gauge (0.05") thin stainless steel kitchen sink can hold the Air Switch sturdily?
Thank you! My guess is that should be just fine 👍
If you don’t want to drill a hole into the counter can you just leave the switch under the sink? And open the cabinet when you need to push ?
Yeah that would work in theory 👍
I have only one question: how is an electrical plug under the sink up to code? I thought minimum distance was 6ft???
Hi, I have a similar setup. Can I plug in a dishwasher on the other outlet?
Yep! It works great to do it that way!
I need to change the color of the button AND ring. Can this be done without going under the sink?
Probably not. It’ll probably be easier to remove it and reinstall it after you swap the colors.

He had to screw the nut underneath the sink. To hold in place the button on top that you press to activate the garbage disposal.
LIFE MADE EASY THANK YOU 😎🇺🇸
Thanks! Glad to help!
3:36 the seal needs to be on top so the water from the counter doesn't drip down. 4:50 plug the wall plug 180 degree of what you did and the air hose is too bent so leave it a bit longer
Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for the instruction. Very helpful. Just one quick question, do we require any kind of glue to seal the switch and countertop to avoid moisture going down the cabinet?
A lot of them come with a little tubber seal that can go under the button flange to help keep water out.
Is the 1 3/8" for the hole standard or do these come in other sizes as well that might require a different size hole?
1 3/8” is pretty standard size for these. It’s always good to double check though on the specifications of the switch that you are buying to make sure it doesn’t require a different size hole 👍
I think the seal was meant to go above the counter, bit below. it's a seal to keep out moisture.
That would make sense. Thanks for noticing that!
I have to replace my air switch because it’s stuck “on”. Along with that my disposal won’t drain and there are no clogs. Can the switch cause the “won’t drain” issue? Thanks. Great video!
Thanks! The air switch wouldn’t cause any clogs or for things not to drain. Good luck! It’s a pain troubleshooting sometimes!
I am going to recommend that Insinkerator use your video install, instead of theirs ... thanks for the information ... now off to install mine.
Thank you! Haha, thanks for the recommendation!
When an air switch is installed, would you leave a switch on or off to operator a disposer? In other words, what do you with the current toggle switch? No need to do anything or leave it on?
You should be able to leave the current switch in the “on” position. Whatever outlet the plug for the air switch goes into will need constant power 👍
Is it pretty easy to remove the hose from the switch?
I need to move my switch to a different hole. Do I just pull the hose off the switch, move the switch to the new hole, and then push the hose back onto the button? Is it that easy? Or removal is tricky?
It’s pretty easy. Just twist as you pull it off.
My switch is on the wall, and my disposal is hardwired underneath. Looks like I would need to have an outlet installed underneath and a plug added to my disposal (which we already cut off to hardwire). What would we do with the wall switch? Thanks

@@berlinbuilds I literally just figured it out. Thanks!
What brand is your air switch? Can you please post the link and how much you bought it!.
Hey! Sorry it’s been so long I don’t remember the brand on this one. I do have a link in the description for one similar that works well 👍
Can you convert a hard wired disposal to air powered? If so, how?
Sounds like you could use the wire that is going into the disposal and put in an outlet. You could then wire a whip or plug from the disposal, which you could then plug into the air switch plug. Then you’d take the air switch plug and plug it into the outlet.

What part of it fell out?
@@berlinbuilds The switch fell through the hole

Thanks for the video! I'm actually wondering if I can use an insinkerator without installing the air switch, as we already have a wall power switch.
That should work. You’d just plug the disposal into the plug that is switched.

Thanks!
Why are you filming at like 24FPS?
I’m not totally sure what that means, which probably answers your question 🤣 Just using my phone 👍
I hate that the button is flushed. It always feels wet and dirty. If only it was offset and easy to clean.
You may have yourself a million dollar invention idea there 👍
The real question - Why is it called an air switch?
Because it pushes air down the tube to activate or deactivate the disposal 👍
👍😎👍
No GFCI near the water supply? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Well, there’s two gfci’s on this kitchen with the other outlets “attached” to them. We just keep the ugly ones with the buttons away from the sink.
