    Some really nice crops Brother. Interesting to see the difference in the height on it depending on which clover you had planted or where you had thrown the silage.
    I agree this world has gotten crazy but we have to keep hope. My Father n Law always says, if you fear that the world will end tomorrow, and you have a seed, plant it.

    Well obviously crimson is the best winter cover crop for your area so that fixes that. Im glad to hear your propogating your own seed, thats smart, and im glad you've twigged on to turning biomass into the soil to replenish it instead of stuffing a quick fix load of chemicals at the ground. We do have to use selenium and boron here because our soils are completely difficent in those minerals. I wouldn't worry too much about someone pushing the end of the world button though. You aren't getting out of planting and farming that easily 😂

      @@McGieHomesteadAdventures tell you a story ... Hey I'm a writer, it's my jam. This actually happened. when I was thirteen we had a television program come on, hosted by the TV one news casters, back when we only had two television channels and back before mokumentarys, fake documentaries were a thing, in fact it was probably the first one. So it was played like this is breaking news, the United States and the Soviet Union are at war and because there was a American warship in harbour at Wellington, which there actually was because they'd been anti nuclear demonstrations in the news because of it, Wellington had just been nuked, which must have been oddly confusing for people in Wellington 😆 but the rest of the country thought it was for real. 3 million people thought we were at war with the Soviet Union and they'd nuked us, because of an American ship. After ten minutes they made the announcement that it was a fictional scenario but I don't think there wasn't a single person glued to the TV that night, and the fear that it created was the biggest reason that New Zealand declared a nuclear free policy the following year banning any nuclear technology from entering our 200 km economic exclusion zone. Fear can be a powerful and terrible motivator but God tells us through the Apostle Paul that he hasn't given us a spirit of fear, but of love, power and a sound mind. If you tell a bunch of people thanks to Darwin and co, they're descended from a bunch of monkeys, you shouldn't be all that surprised when they start acting like it but that doesn't mean we should capitulate to fear of what's happening in the world right now because no matter what idiots do, Jesus is Lord. Jesus gives us certainly in uncertain times.

Heavy fertilized rabbit poo and chicken compost at the very beginning. Side dressed twice since and this corn is kicking hard. I've only watered once at the beginning. I’ve noticed that too. Field where I’ve had crimson clover in two consecutive years is especially lush. You can really tell the difference. Couldn’t get non-gmo soybeans or forage soybeans. So my wheat and barley fields Im experimenting by planting Sunn hemp. I’m gonna turn that in the end of August and come back with the crimson clover. That should put me in a good place for corn next year. Also have a small field that I planted red clover and orchard grass. I’ve hayed it twice and I’m going to let my goat herd on it about the first of September, then turn it in and come back with crimson clover. Hoping to see good results with that field too next Spring; God willing of course.

    Great work, your crop looks excellent and praise the Lord for abundant rain this season.
    This is my first year with forage sorghum and ive invented a really complex system i call mow and throw to feed my pigs. Basically ya take a bagger push mower, cut out a row and dump it in the pig pen. They go after it like sweet feed. And the sorghum grows right back over and over like lawn. Im amazed.
    Anyways ive never been impressed with red clover either until i found some wild in the sorghum patch and it was up to my pockets, tallest i ever saw. So thats for next summer. Sorghum, red clover and red ripper cow pea. The goats, deer and pigs all love that sugar in the sorghum. And if you REALLY wanna put a thick weed mat down to plant into for fall, you wont find more biomass than doghair dense sorghum. A 16x20 square was about 70lbs and it wasnt even full grown yet.
    Ps- do you ever soil sample? The cumberland co-op has a $20 caddilac option on their test that has been magical to me. I had no idea all my dirt is high PH, low in magnesium and sulfur but extremely high calcium.. so if i just lime it im making the ca/mg ratio worse. Epsom salt was the answer for both my issues.. magnesium sulfate. Id have never guessed.

    Looks like your experiment is paying off in spades, great looking crops after the crimson. I may have missed but what is the cost per acre for crimson seed vs the standard fertilizer application(s)? I know the deer/turkey attract properties of clover add additional value, but I think you can show a great cost savings based on your emergency nitrogen application you had to do last year vs your incredible corn crop over clover this year. Your crop is incredible this year.

    • @McGieHomesteadAdventures
      @McGieHomesteadAdventures  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s absolutely true! It’s basically 240$ vs 550$ ……… and the 240$ (clover) has much more beneficial properties than just the nitrogen! There’s a lot of other things like humus etc!

    After watching your videos I started doing these practices a couple years ago and from what I’ve noticed so far the old verities of corn seem to do very well but I planted some hybrid sweet corn and still had to add fertilizer. Another thing is some of my fields are so poor from being over farmed for many many years that it wouldn’t even grow clover without heavily fertilizing them. I’m hoping to get them built back up one day. I think this fall I’m going to plant rye just so I can add a ton of biomass because there’s hardly no organic material in some of my soils

Didnt you just very recently broadcast in those beans too? Quick germination and development to close off weed pressure shortly. Do your tillage tool bars have that gps stuff on them so you could set crops a section off to the side next season? I wonder if Caleb could find some crop stubble after deer season, stick the stubble into the bean plot, would that confuse the planter? lol Nice looking range of corn growth and an interesting diversity of nutrient products included.
