When he’s not building crazy contraptions or on wild adventures on Dirt Every Day, Dave Chappelle is working with the crew at Offroad Power Products. This mix of Chappelle’s skillset and the company’s drive to constantly push the limits is one of the reasons we continue to see an impressive arsenal of four-wheel drives roll out of the OPP Washington headquarters. We caught up with Chappelle and the OPP 2011 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon in Moab, Utah. At a glance, the paint-matched armor and hardtop disguise the depth of the extensive modifications, but get close and you’ll see (and hear) that this isn’t your average Jeep build.
For starters, there’s a turbocharged R2.8L Cummins engine under the hood. It’s backed by an eight-speed automatic from a Ram truck, which is teamed with a gear-driven Atlas T-case from Advance Adapters. Finishing it off are a set of Dynatrac Elite Series ProRock XD60 and ProRock 80 axles. Add it all up and you have a powertrain that’s nearly indestructible and wildly fuel efficient. It’s also been stretch, shrouded in lightweight aluminum armor, and placed on the most durable on- and off-road tire you can get, the Nitto Trail Grappler.
Chappelle was nice enough to give us the rundown on the JK and insight into what’s becoming an increasingly popular crate engine swap.
Didn't even let us here it, such a tease
Really looking at dropping one of these in my JKU once the 3.6 kills over, and I wouldn't mind running that 8 speed with it
You’ll be waiting a while the 3.6’s are actually pretty reliable.
Youre looking at 300k miles if you've been showing the pentastar love. Thats why they still run that engine.
Dave Chappelle been on that Sammy Sosa diet
On a serious note my diesel gladiator on 40s gets about 21 on the highway
Hey I'm Dave Chappelle😁
Cummins has nice 3.8 common-rail engine for 3 ton commuter trucks. Size is similar and it has ton of torque for this little Jeep
Great build exactly what I want to do
My dream jeep. If I win the lotto this is going to be my first. My second purchase would be a pizza for the road and i'm gone
I'm interested in dropping one of these in my 2000 Ford Ranger. But when I look it up on the website to buy it, they won't sell it to me because my truck is post-1999 and it "doesn't comply" with the emissions and such. How did you manage to get one for a 2011?
Awesome rig but wish we could have heard the motor run more
Colorado4x4 I’ve got an R2.8 in my TJ. Not disappointed... just wondering how he got it to smog/register in a CARB state.
@@Gold_Falcon_6 Maybe due to the salvaged title status?
How’d you get the 8HP70 to talk to the Cummins?
I've got a 2012 Jeep that i'm thinking about doing this to..... Is it street legal? in Idaho
Has anyone figured out the CAN Bus conversion yet? So people can do this swap themselves? I reached out to Axis an they said they are still having problems with the CAN-BUS on JK platform so they dont offer the Conversion=(
Homie just say his name is Dave chappelle?
Can you drive it on the street (licensed) with the 2.8CRD?
It probably depends on the state and emissions standards there.
Just out of curiosity what does a build like this cost?
Probably $15k
30K power-train, 20K axles, 20K body and accessories, 20K for vehicle, but who's counting? $90,000 + tax and destination =)
@@Mekhanic1 10k for salvage Jeep 10k for drivetrain maybe 25k for everthing else
@@aerostadt4693 keep me updated but I'm pretty sure you could find the same parts a lot cheaper if you keep looking
Does aluminum armor grab/not slide on rocks as much as steel.
Yup.
Well after this video my build plans for mine have changed.
I thought cummins only sells this to VINs 1999 or earlier.
Nice. Would also love to see a cheap/simple version of that similar to the YJ you guys did from the junkyard.
Look at Fred Williams' TJ "Tubesock" (Dave's Buddy from 4Wheel&OffRoad)
What’s the mpg
I got it 20 👍🏻
Where is this jeep now?
They sold it awhile back. Not sure who the new owner is. It's a pretty high-profile Jeep for what it is. I'm sure it will surface someone on the internet before long.
Perfect build Dave. Nothing more than KJ really needs.
How does the new FCA 3.0 stack up against the R2.8? Is a conversion still worth the effort over the factory (albeit Fiat) format?
Yeah something most of us can’t afford. Thanks
Isuzu is where it's at.
Thats about a 10 or 15 thousand dollar built right there, not bad
Motor is 10k on its own lol
That everything on that jeep is money dynatrac 80 axle 😳 bro
more like 40k build
That’s at least 40k, the axle alone is over 6k
How about you show the Jeep at some point...
i bet you go down to like 35" tires and youd get 30mpg XD
👍🔥
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 2000
🤤
My dad flipped over his jeep
@Kyler Boss
My dad flipped his Jeep.
That means your dad did a somersault over his jeep, if you word it that way.
Diesel wm motori 👎👎👎👎👎👎 extrém shit ,Wrangler 3,8 l ,3,6 l 👍👍👍
I used an Isuzu 3.1L. Beat it bad for 50000 hard miles and it's still good.
This is not Motori 2.8.
This is a Cummins crate engine
