It makes me happy when you bring up character over plot, because that's what people are going to care about. What will always bother me is that a LOT of writers will go the way of the overwrite when it comes to describing things. Like instead of saying beach, they'll pretty much get into describing every grain of sand on that beach or they'll overwrite about ALL the colors of blue in the ocean--like this is REALLY going to matter. And sometimes it WILL matter and it will add to the story, only a LOT of times it will take away from the story at hand. Its like if I have to sit around and sit through a TON of world building and whatnot, then I'm definitely going to put that book down. I guess that's why I like stories (both to read and WRITE) that are more literary than genre. Stories that are more about the characters and not so much about plot. And that doesn't mean that the characters aren't doing anything, its just the story is more about them. Like the story could be more about a guy who likes to bake cookies, over being about a guy who works at a bakery. Either way, great video as always. 😁

My favorite is the last one. I like to write my characters as realistically as possible, like if they actually exist. I think that is something that could make them engaging; people are interested in other people.
