    Excellent video Keith! Way cool plane and the camera you used to record it did excellent to show the plane that far away without having to use software to digital zoom. You and the plane did such an excellent job in this type of single pilot/videographer doing a filmed LOS flight had a feel like I was watching a Daemon42 video, great job!

      lol Thanks! I don't usually film anything LOS since it's so hard to get anything worth watching unless you have a good camera man and a good camera. This setup did pretty good for what it was though. (GoPro Hero 4 on a head mount, with an external lapel mic)

    Great video! I bought mine a few hours ago and have been anticipating pt. 2 of your review. Other reviewers have delved right into the FPV flying but glad you took the the time to fly it LOS in the different modes first. It does look pleasant to fly. Glad you cleared up the fact that it auto levels after it helps climb from the "launch mode." I had to switch to 1080 for the video to look decent, however the audio sounds great. I'm sure after you stopped recording this video it took you a while to finish the battery on the plane. The Nano Talon is quite efficient! Looking forward to pt. 3!

      Yes, the little plane does seem efficient! I flew for what seemed like forever and still had power left. I don't know just how long it will fly yet, but for flying LOS I got bored before the pack was empty. ;)

      Check out the Evo too, it basically the same plane with a few minor changes, and a flat wing. If you just want a little parkflyer this one is great with the dihedral, but for FPV with a flight controller and a bit of wind, the flat wing one works better.

      Thanks, I’ll take a look at the Evo as well. I appreciate you responding to my comment!

    You keep referring to “auto level” mode and “stabilize” mode as two different modes. My Zohd autopilot only has three modes- RTH, manual, and Stabilize- is that correct? Or os there an “auto level” mode that I am missing?

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the original Nano Talon with the old stabilizer that came in those. The newer Kopilot works different.

      Thanks for the quick reply, looks like the old system was better

      @@petedevine6563 I like the Kopilot much better! It seems to fly better, has a GPS and RTH, etc. I have a few videos with it too. Here's an hour long flight where I tested the Kopilot out... lol th-cam.com/video/DMNlYoJ6Nd4/w-d-xo.html

    GREAT VIDEO, I really enjoyed watching you fly.. this is going to be my first plane to fly. im a seasoned quad racer from Texas and thought id give this a shot like mr. steele . any advice and tips would be greatly appreciated.. thanks again for a very precise and educational video... GOD BLESS

      Best advice I can give is read through the thread at RCGroups, may others have given their experiences, and posted about problems they've run into to get help. You'll learn a lot more there than I can tell you... lol

    I've added some lights and a Night Owl and turned this thing into my night flyer (given lower wind at night around here). I like it and at ~$100 it's a pretty good deal. It does rock a bit -- i might add a small vertical stabilizer to see if that helps. That spin is pretty crazy.

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I that was yours I saw on Facebook, looks great! I really need to set up a night flyer, it's getting dark waaay to early here right now... lol

    • @northernfpv9562
      @northernfpv9562 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's me. It's getting dark here at 4:30 pm these days, so I had to do something or never get any flight time in at all until Spring! I'll see how it works. This little thing is actually a great potential companion for a little mini Vector. It's not perfect for video (too much movement), but flies FPV just great. Hits the spot for a quick fix because it's already zero degrees here!

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely agree! Not the smoothest platform for video, but considering the small size and weight, I think it does pretty good even with the stock stabilizer. I would love to try out a micro vector in this one, but I really don't want to put that much more money into a relatively close range plane... lol I guess that's why a lot of people end up putting iNav in it. I considered that myself, but I want to save iNav for another airframe better suited for it, save my self any extra headaches trying to learn it... ;) BTW I just posted the first FPV flight.

    • @northernfpv9562
      @northernfpv9562 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll check it out now. iNav seems to be the flavor of the month, but I'll give it another 6 months to mature. I'm spoiled by the relatively plug and play Vector!

    Its possible install fpv.blue on this small plane? Or better use some big plane ?

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I won't say it's "impossible", but I don't think this would be the ideal platform. The fpv.blue transmitter is a bit on the large/heavy side when comparing it to a typical 5.8GHz analog transmitter, or even smaller (200mW) 1.3GHz ones. It could be done, but I would probably recommend a little larger airframe that would work better.

    Think the wings would snap under heavy movements¿ Also really bad stall..

    Great vid Keith , I have the same model , my setup is without rudder (4ch Rx ) for now . What size lipo and are you on the CG mark ? Thanks Graham

    • @weavostigercat2000
      @weavostigercat2000 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah got the lipo size from pt1 . I have a 1400 3s but I have full fpv onboard (nose cam + HUBOSD board +vtx ) but my mobius on the front hatch makes it nose heavy so will try mob on top hatch first .

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right, 1500 3S in mine. I had the CG on the rear edges of the CG marks and it flew fine LOS. I later flew it FPV (video coming soon) and with the FPV gear up front, I had to slide the battery back, but the CG still ended up in the center of the CG marks. It still flew fine, but pitched down a little with power off. I think it flew more "neutral" with it balanced on the back of the marks. I will move it back before flying again.

    It's a nice little park flyer... Wait until you try inverted. It's just as smooth upside down. ;)

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really, I would have thought all that dihedral would make inverted flying terrible at best... lol I'd like to remake the little plastic piece at the center of the spar to remove that dihedral, even if it means cutting trimming the foam a bit and figuring out how to keep the latches operable, or maybe even permanently gluing the wings to the fuse. It's small enough to haul around fully assembled...

    • @transgenerations
      @transgenerations 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah me too on the dihedral! Today tho my friend Mark was flying his making a low pass and I thought "Something looks funny?". I then realized he was cruising past rock solid inverted. It looked really odd. LOL! You're right, it shouldn't be happy inverted but it sure looked like it didn't mind at all. I agree with you on the removable wings but in my one and only crash (damn Orange rx) they did pop off and save any breakage. It would be really interesting to see what your mod would do! I'll watch for it!

    Great LOS Demo m8, showed us the flight characteristics, the Stabiliser Modes and the forced stall, spin and recovery....plus you showed the Ruddervators doing a flat turn in Stab Mode...Too many reviews have been straight to FPV showing us exactly nothing, so well done on the hat Cam....Why are you still in midsummer over there..???...It's 5 deg Centigrade here.!!!...I hope your not still wearing Shorts....lol

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The weather is still crazy over here. In the past week it's been as low as 29ºF and as high as the mid 80s... For the most part it's been a comfortable 65-70 during the day though. A little windy but a few calm days like you saw here. My only complaint is it's too dark to fly after 5pm, which sucks! I miss the long summer days where I flew until 8:30-9pm... lol As far as flying the little plane, I was pretty happy with it. It's well behaved and predictable. It definitely gets bumped around a bit like you'd expect for a small plane, but honestly it's not too terrible. Overall it's a nice flying little plane.

    • @EnglishTurbines
      @EnglishTurbines 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It gets dark here about 3 pm...lol...These small FPV planes are getting a bit of a cult following to see how much range folk can get with them, the distances are surprising, and the Nano Talon is a very real contender IMO..The F4 FC I find is VERY responsive as it comes from a Mini Quad, so jack up the gains and it will fly like its on rails in Horizon Mode, but you will still be able to override it. You just have to try one at some point, these small lightweight rigs are gaining in popularity i think. Did I mention an F4 is about $20?

    Small mistake in descriptions. It's Nano Talon not Mini Talon.

  • @philaell
    @philaell 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Pretty sure what your referring to in the auto level mode is actually the auto launch mode. I think it has auto launch, stabalize and manual mode.

    • @bonafidepirate
      @bonafidepirate  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on who you ask... lol It clearly wants to keep the plane level in that mode though, apart from the momentary "up elevator" after throttling up, or immediately after entering the mode until the plane pitches up, then it settles down and just flies level. Call it what you want, but that's what it does, at least this one... ;)
