Got to admit I'm with Aemond over his nephews. They bullied him and took his eye out. Anyone would hate the people that did that to them and even in this scene he only did this after they mocked him. As for walking away when Daemon stood up... well duh... a teenager against a middled aged warrior with Valereon steel that he fears, respects and looks up to.
he called them bastards...that's treason for an adult...they even told him not to yet he called them again...henc they took his eye....they were children who will do anything as they like even here he called them strong just after a man was beheaded for the very reason, that is not equal to them smiling for PIG...and with same age, he can not be able to take that punch...show is obviously undermining the strength of STRONGS

Both that little smirk Aemond had when he was staring at Vaemond’s corpse and the staredown with Daemon were so telling. He’s just been dying to face off against a truly dangerous opponent, not some prance-about melee or joust like Criston suggests he’s training him for. Having the most powerful dragon alive in a time of peace was probably killing someone like him with boredom.
Not just having the most powerful dragon and lineage of kings, but imagine how tiring it must be to constantly be hearing from your mother and grandfather that a war is coming and you personally need to be prepared to fight, they’re told their cousins aren’t legitimate and if they take the throne they will try to kill aemond and his family, but at the same time they’re constantly told and berated to not get into conflict with their cousins. His brother became an alcoholic whoremonger, but aemond trained as a soldier from the very beginning, preparing himself for the war that is coming, and then they criticize him for it. He’s the exact copy of daemon, on the outside it looks like he does whatever he wants, but in reality he’s only trying to live up to his name and keep his family going
That' s impossible they are literally too op to work together westeros need only one Op Targaryen the land can't have two op Targaryen as westeros can't be ruled by two king
Fun fact: The actor playing Aemond had a minor but impactful role in “The last kingdom”. Working in this setting comes natural to him or so I should think. Glad to see Osferth once again alive on the big screen playing this massive role. The casting team have done a splendid job.
yessss, The Last Kingdom is such a good show! I'm so happy to see him here, literally opposite of the character he played there, I'm amazed at his range, he's incredible.
I saw it as Aemond standing up for his brother, like protecting him, waiting for Jace to sit back down, hoping for a fight? Aemond is the younger bro but acts likes the older brother. Interesting though i didn't see it your way.
I dont think he wants a apology from Jace because he didn't take his eye... He wanted to fight him after he stood up against his bro Aegon. What pushed him over the edge was Luc laughing when the pig was put infront of him..
he is just always looking for an excuse to mess things up, he wasn't waiting for an apology or defending Aegon he's just like Daemon, he likes to bring chaos and fight
Although I loved Leo Ashton as Aemond and wished we saw more, Ewan Mitchell is killing it. The man had maybe 5 minutes of screen time and everyone can’t stop talking about him.
I love the symbolism of the pig being served to him and the strong boys laughing. You can sympathise so much with Aemond and why he wouldn’t support his nephews, they never ever supported him even when their own legitimacy was being at stake they kept up laughing at him for no reason. Play with a dragon and you’ll get burned, and Aemond is the blood of the dragon.
Neither has Luke ever apologized to him for making him half-blind. We can tolerate relate to his anger. The decision of making Lucerys' killing an accident was on point. Aemond was consumed by the grudge he held for years against his nephews and ended up doing something stupid that will lead to him disappointing his mother and then descending into darkness
@@missym877 They both were still accomplices. And remember, Aegon is the first born prince and Otto and Alicent want to put him on the Iron Throne. So he can't really do anything against him.
This actor is already the highlight of the series for me, along with Daemon. He really really knows how to project himself, and very believably I might add! He steals every scene he's been in, and as other fellow fans here have said already, your eyes just go straight to him. What I love is that he's a lot like his Uncle in that you don't know what they're going to do. They radiate this really interesting and compelling sense of confidence and menace, with a touch of nihilism, lol. They are truly the Blood of the Dragon!
They said that just as Ewan walked in the room, they knew he was Aemond. The way he talks and his posture are so royal. It's hard to execute these things and there's no doubt Ewan is a great actor... wishing to see him more in S2!
He is a perfect copy of Daemon. From his smirk, his silhouette, even his strut. That's brilliant directing. Being so, the viewer automatically transfers all our prior knowledge of Daemon's traits and superimpose them onto Aemond. Excellent use of visual story telling.
So far, I think Aemond has quickly become my favorite. I listened to the book prior to watching and managed to get through the Dance of Dragons and loved what they evolved him into
He has that Sephiroth vibe about him which I haven't seen in ages; that's saying somth in itself. Extremely impressive energy & a strong aura on top of that...but full of revenge and disdain for his nephews and his other side of the family. That fight w/ Daemon will quite epic. I hope he brings Masamune along tho.
A sweet and loveable puppy with his mother and a predatory, dangerous, abusive, creepy and threatening wolf with his nephews, i adore this character, he is so entertaining to watch,
He is my favorite Targaryen man ever and I don’t think anyone will ever top him, he truly represents everything you expect a Targaryen man to look and act like
I remember watching the History and Lore video about Dance of Dragons years ago. It talked about Aemond staring at Luke. No words exchanged between the two. Just the animated Aemond's cold stare that even Luke felt was aimed at him, especially from the sapphire stone that Aemond had where his eye was missing. And then I knew that live action Aemond would be the best thing to see. Aemond you feel he is staring at you, even though missing an eye. Years later, not disappointed. And this is just the beginning. Plenty more of the quick-to-offense, hot headed, staring at you Aemond. Especially as we approach the Dance.
I can't help but think about how good things would have been if we had actually seen Daemon and Aemond team up. Just imagine how House Targaryen would be glorified under the power of this fierce boy and his role model uncle.
Aemond is bully and who's a Daemon wannabe (his biggest kill is ambushing an unarmed family member who was not only riding a far smaller dragon, but was even further disadvantaged because of a storm). Hence the stare-downs from Daemon. Daemon sees Aemond for what he really is.
@@aengusog3415 Aegon wasnt on the side of the table where he was looking, and I doubt he was staring at a wall and smiling. He was starring at either Daemon or Rhaenyra.
@@hereiam8Hell i dont blame him! Aemond and aegon together and as well the dragons were the only reason why i watched the show in the first place.Even daemon by himself would not convince me to watch the show.

The best casting in the show (outranks the others I thought were flawless, like Jon Snow, Robb Stark, Jaime Lannister, Walder Frey, Eddard Stark, Oberyn Martell), an absolutely phenomenal actor, and an amazing character brought to life in the perfect fashion. He's my favorite character on HOTD or Game of Thrones. I can't wait to see Season 2. I know exactly how it'll end, I've read the books, and I'm so excited for it. Everything about the way the actor portrays the character gives off vibes of being perfectly relaxed and calm, but like a coiled snake or a spring that's too taut, always ready to strike out and destroy someone. He's always scanning the room, always watching, he never misses anything. I can't say enough about Ewan Mitchell after watching House of the Dragon.
@@soumyabhattacharya1181 yeah it seems like house of the dragon is following the book which GOT didn’t and that was their mistake the book had the perfect storytelling but the director of the show wanted to add in his own ending and change a few things that didn’t make sense for example lady Catlyn dying at the red wedding which wasn’t paste of the book she was supposed to be resurrected as lady stone heart that would of been way cooler for the show

Now 2:44 makes sense! At first, I thought Aemond just felt the need to say something because he hadn't really yet during the dinner scene. 1) The cooks bring a roasted pig in front of him 2) Aemond's nephews and his brother mocked him with a pig in an earlier episode when he didn't have a dragon yet 3) Aemond looks across the table at Lucerys and sees him giggle at him because of #2 Consequently, Aemond decides to vocally mock his nephews because Lucerys silently mocked him!
He has commanding presence about him. Ever since he was a kid I knew he would become something great, because he didn't have a Dragon. I never read the books so I am purely speculating.. I was like "He will get a Dragon and become something great!" He's become my fav, so I'm rooting for him! Seems like a fierce warrior! He has a commanding presence about him. I like how when he slams the table the music stopped. xD
Aemond has a very intense presence, even when standing still or just having a normal conversation. He is like a snake, it feels like he is an animal that you can’t turn your back to or even blink in its presence cause at any moment he could just strike at you and overwhelm you with fear. The fact that he has an eye patch and a sapphire beneath it where his eye should have been just makes him seem more dangerous. Its very clear that the dragons’ personalities and spirit rubs off on the rider and its clear that vhagar’s personality and temperament has affected Aemond massively. Such a well written character.
Yes he’s like men with lifted trucks who have too much of an ego. He’ll be a psycho for the rest of this show. Unless they make him bipolar cause he clearly didn’t mean to kill Luke so he’s more emotionally complex. My gosh I love and hate him. I’ll support his war crimes because I understand him. Also, I feel like since Luke laughed at him about the pig at the dinner scene… his bullying trauma came back and that made him go psycho mode at Storms End… at least that’s a huge element.
I like how Aemond shows vulnerability and flinches when the dude got his head cut off in the throne room. Aemond plays the tough guy look, and can probably live up to it, but he is still young and be taken by surprise. Adds more to the character.
He is not looking with compassion or vulnerability. He looked shocked because that was his first time seeing Daemon in action. Rhanerya wasn’t t shocked and neither was viserys becasue they’ve seen this behavior in daemon before. But daemon has been practically away from his nephews all their lives, so this was an introduction into finally seeing what the rumors of their uncle was about. And he’s impressed. Impressed by his balls and his fierce loyalty to not take any shit from anyone coming for his family. And Aemond is literally the same.
I notice Aemond sat at Head center of the table either north or south, it’s a power move subconsciously. Being at the position you’ll get to observe the pack during any feast, seeing who’s weak or who’s Strong.
I noticed that too, it would seem to be a spot for the head of a family but on the opposite side there were also children. His demeanor makes it feel like a power move as you said.
Do you know that within the event of the dance of the dragons, Aemond is the one who sits on the throne the longest? (Aegon & Rhaenyra 6 months each, Aemond 1 year) He may be bold & unforgiving yet when he’s a prince reagent no one dare to challenge his reign. No one dare to touch King’s Landing (Rhaenyra only able to take over when Aemond’s gone) Yes he’s cruel to his enemy yet he protects his loved ones and his loyal ppl. Not even a bad omen.. somehow, it suits him to rule and the iron throne accepts him
Ewan Mitchell just oozes a different aura from anyone else except Daemon. He's so different from his character of Osferth in Last Kingdom. This is gonna make his carreer explode really!!!
Aemond is a real menace. His choice of words and the dramatic pause before faintly uttering the word. Definitely he grabbed everyone’s attention towards that word.
The actor used the brief time he had on screen, and made the character a sensation. Well done. Also, he has such a versatile look. If he weren't this character, I could still imagine him playing many other dark Tygaryens in the story. Like a young Brynden Rivers, Viserys (Danny's brother), young Aerys Tygaryen e.t.c.
I like how he also recoiled when Daemon beheaded the dude, he's a spooky dude but he's still never seen someone die before so he couldn't help but flinch either
All these years later, Aemond still feelin himself ever since claiming the largest dragon in the world. The bullied came the bully, and it looks like puberty was extremely kind to him LOL. I like the casting decision for older Aemond. I hope in future episodes, we get to see him rock that sapphire in his right eye socket.
@@pizzaisminenoucanthaveit.2149 Huh. What do you mean he "only returned the kind gesture Lucerys gave him". What "gesture" did Lucerys he give him, and how was it returned back in this episode.
And conversely, Aegon was a notorious bully to his younger brother, taller and fairer in his youth. As the years past, his growth halted and his face became fuller and more rotund, perhaps consequence of his gluttony. His capacity for cruelty never dulled however.
@@pizzaisminenoucanthaveit.2149 So his younger nephew laughs, and in return, Aemond decides to ruin a nice family dinner where even the adults seem to finally be getting along, and he indirectly calls them bastards just to get a rise of the boys, start a fight and piss off his mom. Can you imagine how intimidating it is as actor to have one eye covered? you're at a 50% disadvantage right from the start. Ewan nails it.
I would imagine it seems penetrating because he only has one eye. You're focusing on one eye because there's no other eye to focus on.
Well he doesn't have any other choice does he?
this dude was born to play this character. wow perfect casting. just his presence and appearance shows the audience who he is all about.
So much justice done to this character. The actors, director, and writers really nailed him
if we would see him with his book armor it would be the most beatiful thing to happen. he wears a nightblack armor chased with gold and a red cloth on it
Got to admit I'm with Aemond over his nephews. They bullied him and took his eye out. Anyone would hate the people that did that to them and even in this scene he only did this after they mocked him. As for walking away when Daemon stood up... well duh... a teenager against a middled aged warrior with Valereon steel that he fears, respects and looks up to.
he called them bastards...that's treason for an adult...they even told him not to yet he called them again...henc they took his eye....they were children who will do anything as they like
even here he called them strong just after a man was beheaded for the very reason, that is not equal to them smiling for PIG...and with same age, he can not be able to take that punch...show is obviously undermining the strength of STRONGS
@@krillin7876 Some people just arent STRONG enough (Luke) , Also he did it in a sly enough way where its wasn't immediately calling them bastards, that's a normal enough toast, they're just sensitive fucks because they're bastards
@@krillin7876 but they ARE bastards, and they are not only to inherit some land (which could be ok in the royal bastards case), but the Iron throne itself! And he is second-in-line to inherit it according to the generally accepted tradition. He was exactly in the same position the Baratheon brothers had after King Robert's death. And as for the last scene - why the hell would you trigger to the "strong" compliment if you are not a Strong's son? You are just self-admitting that accusation.
Aemond Targarien is the best king material for me right now.
Him and his dragon kills the youngest nephew and his dragon when the war starts he gets his revenge lol
@@krillin7876 So in your opinion if someone calls you a name it's okay to take their eye? If your defense it's going to be "well it's the rules of the world" then that just gives me even more reason to be against it especially when we are talking about members of the same family 🤦♂️🤣

Fun fact: The actor playing Aemond had a minor but impactful role in “The last kingdom”. Working in this setting comes natural to him or so I should think. Glad to see Osferth once again alive on the big screen playing this massive role. The casting team have done a splendid job.
Fucking loved the last kingdom and Osferth was great in it

3:29 Aemond's smirk as he got punched and then pushed Jace was amazing.
When Aemond stood as Jace addressed him, he was waiting for an apology, but he never addressed what they did to him. Aemond sensed he was being fake.

It’s bullshit though, his own brother was the lead instigator. His nephews only followed suit because his brothers Aegon was the oldest.
@@missym877 Don't expect logic to actually work on these people.
Neither has Luke ever apologized to him for making him half-blind. We can tolerate relate to his anger. The decision of making Lucerys' killing an accident was on point.
Excellent use of visual story telling.
he is far from a copy and ep.9 shows it well, even tho at first glance they look alike, but he is developing in his own character
Copy 😑 in what sense and how ? I can handle you full list of differences
@daemontargaryen6757 they are made to have similarities on purpose, but there are still differences between the two
I mean Aemond isn’t a groomer and pedophile like Daemon so idk

So far, I think Aemond has quickly become my favorite. I listened to the book prior to watching and managed to get through the Dance of Dragons and loved what they evolved him into
He has that Sephiroth vibe about him which I haven't seen in ages; that's saying somth in itself. Extremely impressive energy & a strong aura on top of that...but full of revenge and disdain for his nephews and his other side of the family. That fight w/ Daemon will quite epic. I hope he brings Masamune along tho.
Yes, the fight better go full anime/ jrpg. It'll be amazing.
More like the boss you try tobeat in darksoul
Daemon will have time to make himself a sandwitch while Aemond is casting Supernova. Then Daemon will Omnislash his ass.
Nice spoiler
A sweet and loveable puppy with his mother and a predatory, dangerous, abusive, creepy and threatening wolf with his nephews, i adore this character, he is so entertaining to watch,
i love aemond's personality.
Hes a psycho, you know?
Ewan was brilliant 👌👌 his screen presence is terrific
His introducing scene was so cool & he was brilliant. He is perfect choice for aemond.
He is my favorite Targaryen man ever and I don’t think anyone will ever top him, he truly represents everything you expect a Targaryen man to look and act like
The actor playing Aemond has made me love the character more on the show than I did with the books.
If they teamed up whom would they fight?

Aemond is bully and who's a Daemon wannabe (his biggest kill is ambushing an unarmed family member who was not only riding a far smaller dragon, but was even further disadvantaged because of a storm). Hence the stare-downs from Daemon. Daemon sees Aemond for what he really is.
I like how Daemon covers his smile when Aemond is starting his speech, and when Aemond gets hit, he is laughing and looking to Daemon.
He wasn’t looking at daemon he was laughing with Aegon.

The casting for this show is amazing
There’s a reason everyone’s always obsessed with these shows the acting is always so impeccable hope it dosent go downhill like GOT did

1) The cooks bring a roasted pig in front of him
2) Aemond's nephews and his brother mocked him with a pig in an earlier episode when he didn't have a dragon yet
3) Aemond looks across the table at Lucerys and sees him giggle at him because of #2
Consequently, Aemond decides to vocally mock his nephews because Lucerys silently mocked him!
What a good uncle he is! He truly loves those sweet STRONG fellas ❤️
Aemond is such an interesting character that despite everything I am actually rooting for him. And the actor is suberb.
the amount of presence both him and Daemon have is insane, they really steal the lights from everyone else.
I don’t know about this guy but he’s making me crazy. Not even conventionally handsome but something about him allures you. What a lad.
I like how when he slams the table the music stopped. xD
I thought exactly the same when i saw him as a kid but i didnt know he was going to be so ruthless
@@anaclarisaarrosio9192 well it's what being bullied and losing an eye does to someone, but I like how he turns out, very interesting character
Otto truly cares for his granddaughter halaena. You can clearly see him comforting her at the back when she got scared by all the fighting
The fact that Alicent knew Aemond was about to start shit up was hillarious 😂😂
God that is a unique smile. You can always tell he is up for mischief.
baby Monk is a badass now Uhtred would be proud
I like how Aemond shows vulnerability and flinches when the dude got his head cut off in the throne room. Aemond plays the tough guy look, and can probably live up to it, but he is still young and be taken by surprise. Adds more to the character.
Yea its true, he has the flinch, but he also looks at Daemon like "damn im gonna be like that in a few years" sorta respect for the badassery

Do you know that within the event of the dance of the dragons, Aemond is the one who sits on the throne the longest? (Aegon & Rhaenyra 6 months each, Aemond 1 year)
He may be bold & unforgiving yet when he’s a prince reagent no one dare to challenge his reign. No one dare to touch King’s Landing (Rhaenyra only able to take over when Aemond’s gone)
Yes he’s cruel to his enemy yet he protects his loved ones and his loyal ppl. Not even a bad omen.. somehow, it suits him to rule and the iron throne accepts him
Ewan Mitchell just oozes a different aura from anyone else except Daemon. He's so different from his character of Osferth in Last Kingdom. This is gonna make his carreer explode really!!!
