- Bergen Cyclus
Subtitled Bergen Cyclus (Cyclus of Mountains) as it should be considered a continuation of an earlier work Rivieren Cyclus (Cyclus of Rivers). The Dutch composer Malando was often inspired by original Latin-american music. Being a percussionist himself he often made use of exotic percussion-instruments in his orchestrations. Malando earned his greatest fame as a composer of tangos. His most famous tango Olé Guapa was said to be played almost every minute in some or other place in the world. Short before his death Malando made two tours to Japan where his music (and his orchestra) enjoyed a tremendous popularity. Kees Vlak is not only active as an arranger - as is the case with this Malando composition - but also as a composer in the Spanish and Latin-american idiom. In the Spanish genre he wrote several Suites: Paso Cabaio,Paso Flamenco, El Paso Montanesa and El Paso Moro Gitano. In the Latin-american genre he wrote the Antillian Suite and the Windward Islands Suite.
