Are you witnessing what was happening a day or two before and the days the troops were called in? MOST of the protestors were peaceful. It is reasonable for this to be left with local law enforcement. Peaceful protestors have intervened to protect law enforcement as well when those hell-bent on destruction have gone after them. Any damage done in Portland to property is far outweighed by the negative effects of attacks on personal human freedoms. Saying it is ok for 45 to call in UNNAMED federal enforcement to protect property over lives is anathema to our supposed rights of peaceful protest. All too often in these last few weeks, the federal (and some state) responses have been over the top.
Please interview these people so we can all part-take in your lies.

This objectively doesn't look like a huge deal, but it very well could be a trial balloon for sending troops (it would have to be military for staffing reasons) into cities.
About 80% of Americans live in cities.

I fear the possibility of multiple cities getting invaded. I don't know if that is realistic. I don't know how the military itself would react to such an attempt to suborn civil government.
Wanting to resist isn't being immature. It's acting on the concerns and conclusions I have, which are (moderately) rational.

That's the scary part. I'm always afraid of disaster and I know that? So I reality-test myself a lot.
I think I would personally talk with the protest leaders, mark the national guard (whose job is to uphold the constitution) as being protectors of the protesters. Have them stand shoulder to shoulder with the peaceful protesters at the front line and protect them from unlawful arrest. I think with good communication with the crowd it would create a sense of unity between local forces and the residence protesting. Even the national guard was appalled to be used against protesters, so use them for the protesters. *Shrug*
Except their uniform has identification on it. It says police on both the front and back as well as a department insignia and an individual code for each officer. Why no name you may ask. Well a better person to ask would be one of the 38 Portland police officers who had their names, phone numbers, and addresses doxxed online by "peaceful protesters" who also suggested people go and visit the officers and their families.

Problem is the police union in Oregon is supportive of trumps storm troopers being in Portland and have been in meetings with them. If Portland's mayor ordered swat or the police to arrest or deny access to gestapo they would refuse or resign just like all the others. The National Guard is a good possibility however.
@@hardrock3468 the National Guard is under control of the DoD, not a state. Learnt that recently as well. States may have state defense forces which are just a couple of dozen to a hundred volunteers with crap training and equipment.

I wish in terms of mindset, the chasm between the North and the South, has narrowed because of leaders like John Lewis, but it really hasn't. I travel all over the US for business, and the divide, the racism, and the intolerance is still there, only thinly veiled with a smile and verbal restraint. Because I'm white, and when I'm only with whites in the south, the racist views are shared openly like nothing has ever changed nor ever will. People who seem rational, tolerant, and respectful on the outside say some of the most shocking things behind closed doors. Being born in WA/Seattle and living in CA, these viewpoints and thought processes are literally shocking as well as appalling and disgusting. It's only slightly under the surface, but the hate, fear, racism, and bigotry all still exist as they were prior to the late 60s. It's foolish to believe otherwise. They are literally fearful that being white in America is rapidly becoming a minority and there power, self aggrandized superiority, and privilege will fade with it.
