    Hey Drew! Just wanted to drop a line and say this fly pattern is certified gold here in the dirty urban canals of Arizona. The grassies just gravitate right towards this
    It was fun to learn to tie and perfect. Love your vids - peace!!

    Thanks for showing us how to tie this fly. Caught two bass on it last night in our golf course pond. Will take a lot more stealth for me to hook one of the carp in there!

    This looks like a great design for Grass Carp! I live near a golf course with a pond that stocks Grass Carp. I’ve been observing them and I noticed they are closer to the surface than common carp, so I was looking for a floating carp fly. I am going to give this a shot!
    Awesome design by the way! Where did you get the idea of reverse tying the deer hair and putting foam in between the deer hair? Genius!!!

    What is the difference between the TMC 2487 vs the TMC 2457? Is one of them using a thicker guage wire? Hook design is different?

    I know this is a late comment but how would you recommend me to work this fly? Just let it sit there, twitch it a little, etc? Just got my first grass carp on a spinning reel so I really want to land one on fly.

    • @LooknFishy
      @LooknFishy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on the mood of the carp. They'll chase it down but not far so I might swim it slowly. But I usually start by letting it sit on the surface. If I get some looks but no takes...I'll twitch it very lightly...just enough to get the marabou to pulse. If that doesn't work...I'll cast across and pull it in front of one. No movement on the surface is the most effective....catches bass and bream too!

      @@LooknFishy ok thank you, when the carp aren’t on the surface do you have any recommendations for a subsurface fly?

    Do you use 1-mm foam on this fly and your foam-winged dry fly?

      @@LooknFishy Thanks! This fly is harder than it looks to tie well. Took me a couple of attempts. I'll let you know if it works on some GA bruisers.

    • @LooknFishy
      @LooknFishy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely let me know. Yeah it takes a few practices..but don't stress the look too much...they can't tell. I just wanted it to ride half and half and swim it like a leech.

      @@LooknFishy First, thanks for sharing this fly. I don't how you came up with it but it works. My problem is that both of the fish I have hooked with it have straightened the hook almost immediately (OK, today's fish was sitting in a woodpile). I am going to try a 2457, but I'm curious how you avoid the same problem with the 2487. Just go easy if you have plenty of room?

    • @LooknFishy
      @LooknFishy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonbenstead2931 yea, it happens to me also...I set my drag low and let them run. No uncommon for a fish for 10 mins. The issue I found is balancing a sturdy hook and the fly still floating. Love to hear the results. Glad it's hooked a couple for you!

      Not in my experience and I've caught a ton of grass carp. But I don't use it all that much either.
