Torch Song Trilogy was one of the first stepping stones in my life, that allowed me to feel as though I WAS a Good Person,,, I was able to accept that my feelings and emotions were REAL and Valid. Alan, while his life was cut short, showed me that I could be who I was meant to be. Mathew Broderick probably has NO idea how many lives he touched and helped. There is probably a WHOLE group of men in their mid 50's who would love to shake Mathew Broderick's hand for taking the risk back then to play the role he did. Torch Song Trilogy is one of the movies that i would say, helped me feel a sense of self worth. I also have to say that Harvey Fierstein will forever and always be my example of an OUT and Proud Gay Man.
I always wondered how a movie like Torch Song, which was so ahead of its time in dealing with the subject matter of homophobia and equal rights, was made - and with Matthew Broderick no less.
