    At 10:50 there is an error. Archduke Franz Ferdinand was not the son of Emperor Franz Joseph; he was his nephew.

    The person who would visit Sarajevo was not Franz Josef's son, but his nephew, Archduke Ferdinand.

    These movies are amazing. It's probably due to the old cameras, but they walk as if they are drunk.

    love King Edward. but "his" age, its only called Edwardian in England, in the rest of the world is known as Belle Epoque!

    Well. The footage is just great but the narration contains a few mistakes.
    Emperor Willhelm II is showed as a warlord and Archduke Franz Ferdinand apparently was the son of the old emperor... Maybe the narrator didn´t know it any better. I mean we can never ecxpect him to have known exactly everything we know today.

  • @MyDigitalRealm
    @MyDigitalRealm  12 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    @royalcello The narrator probably wasn't even viewing the film as it was being recorded. I too agree that old footage is best viewed with original or no narration.

    I think the narrator is Michael Redgrave and the older female voice , Dame Edith Evans ?

    what a lot of rubbish @ 10:50 - Archduke Franz Ferdinand d'Este (the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne) was Franz Joseph's nephew, not his son (!). Then again, this happened outside British Empire so why care and be accurate?

    • @nancybroertjes2292
      @nancybroertjes2292 8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Franz Joseph had a son named Rudolf who died in a murder suicide with his mistress, Maria Vetsera. Their story is told in the movie "Mayerling" with Catherine Deneuve and Omar Sharif. Archduke Franz Ferdinand was indeed Franz Joseph's nephew. Franz Ferdinands's marriage was morganatic (unequal) so his wife, Sophie, a commoner, was not a grand duchess and their children could not inherit the throne.

    Amazing, back in the late 1870's, a small group of Bible Students declared that 1914, would be the end of the Gentiles Times. Meaning, the ruler ships of all Kingdoms (mostly Kings, & Emperors) would come to their final end of world dominance. Other forms of human governments would pop up, and instead of benefiting mankind, it marked the downfall of all human ruler ship springing from new nations and some popping up from old former Kingdoms.

    I find it so strange, that people who seem to be such adamant republicans watch such programs? and then the gentle ones who want to strangle people? I am sure they have a kind heart really???? just mislead or messed up? not sure which, but i am sure they will let me know

    What amazes me is that its the British working class that are the British Royal families most ardent supporters. Its fundamentally unjust to have one family having the sole and unquestioned right to hold the position of head of state in perpetuity .

    • @markgable101
      @markgable101 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The British monarchy is constitutional Marky mark. If the British "working classes " didn't want their monarch they would simply vote. It's that simple.
      Unfortunately for you people want the monarchy.

    You have to make allowances for the narrators, for the most part, who made this recording 60 years ago...we spoke like that then and P.C. language hadn't been invented never mind P.C. mindset.

    Surely it wasn't Edward, Prince of Wales 6:20 - 6:22, him being called Bertie until he was king and 'took' the name Edward as the king? Wasnt his first name Albert, after his father, just as the Princess Royal was Victoria, named after the mother?
    Weren't much of the royalty mentioned 12:15 - 12:22 close relatives, generally first cousins and usually with multiple links, of the british royals who were until then mostly a German family, with Alexandra perhaps the different one for being Danish? Bulgaria and Romania, Greece and Prussia and Russia were certainly all very close relatives of British royals, and most were grandchildren of Queen Victoria or married to them.
    British royalty not merely lost the German name 14:45 - 14:53 during WWI, but few relatives too, close relatives they had grown up visiting and marrying and so on; Russian royalty were murdered, and others of Germany couldn't keep the ties close any longer.
    The crowds thronging for this 21:30 - 21:44 remind one of the crowds for Diana's wedding and her funeral.
    The abdication speech of Edward VIIIth 24:30 perhaps might have been entirely sincere, even though he didn't refuse the position immediately, but only when it was an impasse about his insistence that he would marry Mrs Simpson and have her as his queen, while his government flatly refused to allow this possibility and forced him to make a choice; but it occurs to one that a very similar speech by another political personae about an elected position in another nation seems to have been copied partly from his speech, especially the part about never wanting the position, while that stance of the copy was completely fraudulent in that several hundred MPs had been asked by this political leader to sign individual declarations asking that this person be appointed to the said position, instead of the usual way, each party declaring their choice in one letter.
