Loving this series already! I cannot thank you enough for doing this, and I am so excited to see the other specialties as well!

Thank you both for this super helpful video! All through med school, I was so sure I wanted to go the peds route (volunteering, research work mostly geared in that direction). But I worked for a bit in a peds outpatient clinic following graduation and started having second thoughts. I decided I like adult medicine too, but I don't think my profile is competitive enough to apply to med-peds, esp as an IMG. What are your thoughts on applying to both IM and peds residency programs? Would you advise against it? (I'd love to hear both your inputs on this, if possible!)

Hey Kavya, happy to hear it was useful! I would advise you to apply to specialties you wish to pursue overall, I also switched my choices many times through my clinical experiences, it happens to many people so you're not alone! That being said, if you think med-peds is the right fit for you then go for it! Similarly, if you think applying for IM and peds separately is better then go for that as well. In the case of applying to 2 specialties separately, I would advise that you should add some general medicine experiences and research in your application if you can and have the time - otherwise, make sure you upload 2 separate PS for each, as well as try and get LORs that are specific for each specialty. Good luck!!

Is it better to get LORs from PDs as opposed to attendings where you rotate?

I think it's better to get LORS from attendings you have worked with !!! STRONG LOR>>> general LORs. If you worked with PD and you are confident that they will write you a strong lOR THEN THAT'S AMAZING. But I personally wouldn't risk a general LOR from a PD over a stronger LOR from another doc. Good luck :)
